I come from Muslim region in China and it is happened to be a Hui Muslim area. Correct me if I get it wrong, Halal food is not something you can ask the business owner if it’s ok but a certified restaurant by Islamic authorities that not just the food itself but the rules and certain ritual have to be followed in the whole process. Eg. No pork or bacon, no alcohol, no blood obviously, and the lamb beef and chicken have to be slaughtered by Imam not anyone else. Etc.

Politic in chinese mind mean majorly a diplomacy and relationship between citizens and goverment, individual and community.
U can imagine what happen to other religions if Xi is a strong christian and he bring it to politics. Chinese see their civilisation as a big family, every members have his own beleaves and openion, but as long as u dont go to kick other members ass because they dont see the world like ur, then ur behave is ok. That what happen to those radical uyghers muslims when went to terrorised others.

I am trying my best to make this comment easy to translate , please translate it if you want to know what a Chinese think about the CPC , muslims and uyhgers.

China is a country with a very rich cultural form. Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Taoism, each religion has a large number of followers, and they have their own churches or temples, which are common everywhere. Ordinary Chinese people have long been accustomed to these. As long as they abide by Chinese laws, any believer is respected and cared for.

A lot of people misunderstand the situation of human rights and personal liberty in China. In fact the Chinese government doesn't care what you do or what you believe in private, but it operates based on thresholds: anything that goes beyond that threshold is repressed.
So you're free to believe in whatever religion you want, and free to congregate. You're also free to be gay or whatever, in fact my parents in Beijing live not far from a gay bar.
However, you're not allowed to bring your beliefs too much into the public. So, if you demand official state recognition of your religion for example, the Chinese government will throw you in jail. If you go around preaching people to join your religion, you get thrown in jail. On the other extreme, gay content was very popular in media a while back, and that crossed the government's tolerance range and they had it all gone from TV. But in fact, gay novels and comics are still everywhere on the internet, and you're free to be gay all you want.
Basically, as long as your beliefs are not being actively fed to the public, the government doesn't care. In fact, it tries to pretend it doesn't exist, probably because they don't know how otherwise to deal with it, lol.

The truth is that in China there is no freedom of mixing politics with religion. In other words, there is true separation of church and state as founding fathers of the US dreamed then.
