Dish Network Channel Guide - September 23rd, 2005 (a glimpse into TV in the Fall of 2005)

  • Going through my old VHS tapes, I found this: a tape recording of a broadcast of Stargate Atlantis/Battlestar Galactica from September 23rd, 2005. The start of the recording shows me pulling up the Dish Network channel menu and scrolling through to find the Sci-Fi Channel. I guess I didn't know the channel number off hand, but this provides a quick glimpse into what the channel line up was like (along with what shows were airing) during late night in the Fall of 2005, which I find fascinating.
The time shown here is a few minutes before 11 pm CST (12 Midnight EST). As I recall, I missed the earlier 8 pm / 9 pm broadcast and so technically what I was getting set to record was the rebroadcast (aka the West Coast Broadcast) of Stargate Atlantis and Battlestar Galactica.
So here's some notable glimpses into what was airing around Midnight in 2005 (and I'm just going to focus on channels I might've been interested in at the time):
    1. TV Land: Night Court, Cheers, Sanford & Son
    2. Comedy Central: "The Showbiz Show with David Spade", South Park, Mind of Mencia
    3. Food Network: Iron Chef, Emeril Live
    4. A&E: American Justice, Star Wars: Empire of Dreams (2004 documentary)
    5. History Channel: Mail Call, UFO Files
    6. AMC: Alien Resurrection, Psycho
    7. TNT: The Mask, The Cable Guy
    8. TBS: "The 6th Day" (a forgotten "Ah-nuld" movie from 2000)
    9. Nick at Night: The Cosby Show, Roseanne
    10. Nick at Night West: Danny Phantom
    11. Disney Channel: That's So Raven, Phil of the Future, Kim Possible
    12. Disney Channel West: "The Country Bears" (2002 family movie)
    13. Toon Disney: X-Men (the '92 cartoon), Power Rangers S.P.D., Get Ed
    14. Boomerang: Flintstones, Batman (the Animated Series), Superman (the animated series)
    15. Cartoon Network: The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Naruto, Zatch Bell
    16. Nicktoons TV: The Angry Beavers, The Ren and Stimpy Show
    17. Discovery Channel: MythBusters, Dirty Jobs
    18. G4: X-Play, Anime Unleashed
    19. Fox News: The O'Reilly Factor, Special Report with Brit Hume
    20. And finally, the Sci-FI Channel (which is what I was looking to record): Star Gate Atlantis, BattleStar Galactica, Andromeda
Sorry if this was a bit of an unusual upload, but I found it unique. Next up is commercials from that Stargate Atlantis/Battlestar Galactica broadcast.

Billy & Mandy in the CN Dish schedule it was part of the last segment of Cartoon Network Fridays! After CNF ends they don't air Adult Swim... except on Sat-Thur at 11/10c until July 2007 where AS can be shown every night on CN! CNF always stated every Friday night at 7-Midnight E/P and 6-11 in the central.

At that time those old kids channels were Toon Disney, Jetix, and Noggin was there in mid 2000s. And for sports channels in 2000s you had ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNEWS, ESPNU, and ESPN Classic channels and you had other cable sports channels like CBS Sports Network, Versus Network, NBC Sports Network, and among other cable sporting networks. I miss these days.

1:57 The movie Speak was based on Laurie Halse Anderson's novel of the same name. I remember reading that book in my English class my freshman year of high school a year and a half before the movie premiered. The film was produced by Showtime, but was broadcast on Lifetime on the night it premiered as well.

There were several different guide styles. It depended on the receiver model. One of our receivers used teal & blue.

    • @Vnov93
      @Vnov93 ปีที่แล้ว

We got Dish in the fall of 2004, with DVR service. So it would have been whatever the standard receiver was during that time. Definitely a blueish color for sure. But I couldn’t pinpoint it unless I actually saw it. But even when we upgraded to the HD receivers in early 2007, the guides were the same.

Host segments with live actors is fine, I remember that from 2005. When I was complaining about live action programming on Cartoon Network, that was in reference to later on (around 2010 or so) when Cartoon Network started airing TV shows like "Unnatural history" and "The Othersiders".

In the summer of 2005, my parents and I went on vacation to the Catskills in New York. We rented a cabin that had Dish Network. Strangely enough, though, the Dish Network service at that place didn't have any of the local stations from Albany. I thought that was kind of odd since many of my friends and family members who had DirecTV and Dish Network had local stations included with their service at that time--unless it depends on the area.
Channel 190, labeled "RLTY," I had thought was the then-new Fox Reality Channel, but I can remember when I looked at the guide when we were in that rental house, none of the shows listed were shows that I remember actually being on that channel. Was that a different reality show channel of some sort that was on channel 190?
