Hi,, Thought i would let everyone know i used a Ford focus 07 rear view mirror for my Auto Vox V5 works perfect ,£10 with postage on Ebay. Thanks Again Alex for the tips Great Video.
This is so helpful, thanks! I've just picked up a 2015 L2H3 to convert into a camper and found your video while looking up reverse cameras and dashcam. Subscribed!
So nice to see someone doing quality work! That camera is very impressive and a steal at that price. Never did understand how they could make long vans that you can't see out the back of - it's horrible reversing into a tight space like that!
Much appreciated for the compliment! Definitely makes life a lot easier, using it I can reverse the back of the van within a few inches of wall if need be
Great video and detailed explanation. Does anyone know if you can wire the switch (wire to the reverse light) straight to a switched live to enable the rear camera to stay on permanently when driving?
Thanks a lot for your video clip. My transit doesn't have the base part under which the mirror can be hooked . Here in Korea ,,, Small number of Transits ware imported to South Korea . I don't know the parts number. If you know it , I wish you could share it.
You can change it to what ever you want to see when driving, rear camera, front camera, both, GPS speed or off. I have the screen turn off after 1 minute. But you can make it stay on if you wish. However if you want to have it always on to see out the back you make want to mount the rear in a different position maybe need a number plate area. I have my set almost pointing vertically down so I can see how close and parking into things which doesn’t actually look that far back.
That camera is pretty amazing. I was expecting it to be a silly price but it's a GPS dash cam, a reversing cam, a rear view mirror camera and it has a UK version for £130 on Amazon so no need to wait weeks for shipping from China. I am very surprised.
Aye, I have to admit I was pretty dubious to begin with before I ordered it about the quality it might be. But I’ve been very impressed with the quality of the item and all the way down to the quality of the packaging used.
just fitted mine today practically followed your install they only sent the 12v plug thing as a power supply will i need to cut this to install hard wired? also my rear camera fiited perfect under the top brake light as i want it mainly as a rearview mirror, but the image is upside down, it looks and fits ugly the right way up why coulnt they make this with a rotating image option in the mirror. so good job they come with that window bracket so can use that with some new sticky tabs and just rotate 180.
@@MispronouncedAdventuresAre you sure? From what I’ve just been reading the fuse tap needs to go in with the pin furthest from the wire/tail on the live supplying the fuse. If not I believe you run the risk of both fuses blowing as you’re creating a link between the two fuses and not separate circuits? I need to do more reading it seems. Thankyou!
I just got a hardwire of Amazon I think. I used piggy back fuses then as it was just easy. If I was doing it again I would probably gone to the starter

Hi Alex , that fuse you chose are you sure its a permanent live ? as i thought mine was until i locked the van and in 4 mins it shuts of !! same as cigarette lighter dos the same stays on until i lock the van.. Any thoughts or info would help , thanks Richard
Yeah. I still find the camera on hours later / following morning. But I might look for a new one as I have issues occasionally when starting the engine. It’s seems to sometime cause the display to freeze need rebooting. I do find looking for the manual though there are quite a few versions of this same van with different fuse boxes
Oh so sorry! Misread the comment! So for the mirror it’s a harder one. I eBayed a transit connect mirror as it had the same mounting plate as my transit.
Hi Alex, great video (and series!) we are right at the start of our build on a crew cab MWB MK8 transit, so getting loads of inspiration from you! Quick question, did you have to get a specific model year interior mirror or are they pretty much the same? And is the actual rear camera is just held in the by the high level light fitting? Cheers! Josh
Hi Josh, thank you very much. Which regards to the internal mirror. As it said it was a a Ford transit connect, I don’t think the eBay listing I used showed the year. What I did instead was looking at the pictures of the eBay listing mount and then checked it against the Mount already in the match to make sure they looked liked the fitted. The rear camera comes with a mounting plate and a 3M sticker pad which has been Rocksolid. I’m just using the high-level light fitting as a access hole from inside the vehicle to outside the vehicle. I do believe there are some replacement rear high level lights which might also include the camera fitting
Yeah it is a permanent drain on the battery. But I particular wanted to use it parking mode. So it would record and save the video if it senses a knock while stationary/parked .
That could be a option to look into. At the time of the install I did have the leisure battery in. I’m sure if it in my case it would work as my leisure system is isolated and doesn’t usually the van chassis as a negative return. As the van and the leisure system don’t share a common negative I’m not sure if the System would see the signal input from the reverse wire if there is no common negative. I’ll have a play
eBay. I however went for the Ford Transit “Connect” of model which is the smallest type of transit. As they use the same mirror mount but cost way less than a MK8 mirror!
The listing I originally use is no longer active. But this one looks very much identical to the one I’ve got. The clip on Style was the important bit. I presume your Ford transit windscreen already has the mounting plate attached like mine Hidden under the black casing? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Transit-Connect-Tourneo-2003-2012-rear-view-mirror-Slide-clip-on-type-/324413763025?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292
Hi Alex. Nice to find someone in the UK and also on You Tube converting a MK8 transit instead of having to rely on US based information for this vehicle. We also have a 2014 mk8 and thinking of fitting a reversing camera - how are you finding the Auto -Vox V5? Nice job! Mike T.
Hi Mike, one of the main reasons I wanted to film it was the lack of uk conversions for it online. As far as the V5 goes I love it. Really useful. The only slight problem is the camera position for back. As its such a tall vehicle the rear camera has to look also completely down. Which is great for seeing the back bumper and reversing but not too great for general looking behind you or not more than a few meters behind. I am going to add a second camera using relays to automatically switch between them. I’ll be making a video on that when I get round to it.
Mispronounced Adventures Hi Alex. Until I saw you’re video I was looking at a buying a high level brake light with integral camera - but they have nowhere near as good image quality as the V5. You’re video made me think again and look at alternatives but no one seems to do a brake light type fitted with an hd camera with the nearest to it being 700tvl. Looking forward to see how you connect you’re electrics to the CCP as recommended by Ford. 👍 Mike T.
I had been looking for a high level brake light mount as well, but found them pretty expensive. But at the moment Im happen with how it’s mounted. As for the rest of the electrics. My leisure batteries and there electrics will be a separate system. The only link between the Ford / Van electrics system and my leisure system will be a B2B ( Battery to Battery Charger ). As this model of transit is a Euro 6 is had a smart alternator, so I can’t use a VSR. However I might link the B2B directly via the batteries terminal and not the CCP.
Been great. Use it everyday and I think it’s brilliant for a reverse camera. I haven’t had a need to use the bash cam footage for anything but it’s always recording
Tana Archer mirror wise I used eBay and looked for “Ford transit Connect” the connect is the smaller version of the transit but Foe me used the same mirror mounting plate
Nice instructive install. Is there some way of modifying that trim around the mirror so that it doesn't obstruct the front camera view? Loving the van build series and hope to start my own this year. Watching Bobil Van water heating mods lead me to your channel and now i'm binge watching the whole build!
Hey, probably is! An easier idea might of been to make more of an off set mirror mount so the bit of mirror is a bit more to the side of the trim. Currently toying with the idea of getting a second rear camera and using a relay to switch between them. Hope you enjoy the channel!
That thing is wicked. I’m gonna have to get me one of those. Do you download the videos via Bluetooth or memory card. Fantastic video I enjoyed every minute of it thanks
It’s great, so useful for the van for Parking the van. Unfortunately it’s a only memory card, it’s such a shame it doesn’t have Bluetooth or WiFi options
Agreed that was so yesterday. Bluetooth Wi-Fi is the way to go. My dash cam was on a suction cup and the roads here in America aren’t exactly smooth anymore. So I had a good bump and the dash cam managed to hit just about everything on its way to the floor and doesn’t work anymore. So this thing would be perfect for me. All I use my rearview mirror for now is to check for boogers and my rearview camera is very old and hard to see with no recording.

Really helpful, thankyou. How did you know what way to put in the fuse taps? It looks like you put the fuse tap in with the wire coming out downwards?
Fuse taps don’t have a polarity, as they are really just holders for fuse, which its self again didn’t have polarity
