The things I like about the Sky EPG are: 1. The light blue background. The fact that it’s a bit of a gradient background gives off an ambient feel. 2. The fact that most of the EPG music was either Ambient, Trip Hop or Electronic.
@@stormtraitor6545his is that same user but on an alternative account. Some family members of mine remember this era of Sky though.
This was when everyone started getting sky. It was made in late 80s, early 90s. Only a smaller audience had it. But when The late 90s or early 2000s came abroad, it went mainstream. Those were the days 😍
I suppose its a bit sad really...watching someone flicking through old menus...but its just the music they had on them...I remember just hanging around on the menu for ages back in the day... just listening...often it would send me off to sleep. There was something so indicative of just being in 'limbo' about this music...like in-between various 'states' of mind...I dunno...probably just me...but thanks for the upload :)
+BelatedCommiseration 2015: HEY KIDS!!! NOW THERE IS SKY + HD. NOW YOU WILL NEVER HERE MUSIC AGAIN. JUST THE CHANNEL YOU ARE TRYING TO GET OUT OF ON THE TOP RIGHT CORNER OF YOUR TELEVISION SCREEN (which is by far the most useless thing in the universe, when you are trying to get out of that channel). In other words BRING BACK MUSIC SKY!!!!
Damn, memories. And it's on my birthday :) I remember I got Sky on November 25th that year and I was excited because I'd get to watch The Simpsons (sponsored by Domino's Pizza on Sky One) every night!
My grandma was one of the first people i the neighborhood to get this Digital update. I spent hours and hours during the summer holidays just channel surfing, amazed with what I was seeing
The thing I loved was the interactive and online games, spent many and hour playing what was stupid games admittedly. Then there was box office which started around this time as well, think I rented fight club on it first time.
I first saw sky in September 1998, here in the u.k I was amazed by the quality and clarity of Digital Satellite nowadays we have HD broadcasting and soon it would be 4k,8k broadcasting...
I reckon 4K broadcasting as a standard is along way off let alone 8k. Sure (I think) there are a few sports games broadcast in 4K but in 2021 when the BBC still can’t deliver its regional News in HD not to mention the majority of other freeview/sat channels are still in SD, I don’t think it will happen anytime soon sadly.
@XxxitzElliotxxX Obviously it's not spot on similar. I mean it still has the same blue bar layout as this one, (unless your talking about the Sky HD boxes, in which case, yeah, that menus completely different)
this takes me back. i remember when i was a kid this menu became entirely glitched, making it almost impossible to look through the channels. thankfully, i had tiny pop's number memorized
Channel 103 - ITV was unavailable on Sky Digital in 1999 due to ITV forming their own digital TV company On-Digital and competing against Sky who were chucked out of the original On-Digital idea of Sky, Carlton and Granada owning it. So no ITV on Sky, not until Murdoch chilled a bit. You had to switch to analogue.
Men & Motors! Mine too. Watched that every night when I was 16 in 1999. The other good thing was the foreign channels your satellite box could pick up, you could just flick through them all and eventually find something "naughty"

My family and I first got Sky in Spring 1996, meaning we had analog, as Sky Digital didn't come until October 1998. We cancelled our analog service in December 1998 due to moving house, but as soon as we could after moving, we got Sky Digital, which came a short while into January 1999! I remember when we first got it, I grabbed the remote and pressed 9 (which was the channel number Cartoon Network was consigned to on our old analog box), prompting my family to teach me that digital channels are 3 digits and so taught me that Cartoon Network was on channel number 601! I was 8 when we first got Sky and 11 when we got Sky Digital :)
In 1999 there was no Sky Games (It didn't come out until 2001, where it was known as "Sky Gamestar" and in 2007 it became known as "Sky Games"). Also, the service was still up when this person uploaded this video (uploaded 8 March 2011 and Sky Games shut down on 31 January 2015).
This menu used to always unsettle me, for some reason. Still though, I have very fond memories of this menu, and I think it used to play Christmas music on Christmas Eve? Or is that just me?
God how I remember sky box office. If you took satellite connection out before the movie started and plugged it back in after about 5 or 10minutes. You’d be able to watch the movie for free. was a classic hack which took years to be fixed. Probably because at the time nobody had the internet to show everyone the most simple and effective hack Iv ever known. 👍👍👍
It's almost exactly the same. Even the programmes on the channels are exactly the same, it's all the same to shows and movies still being repeated over and over again. Makes you wonder what your paying for.
I WANT THE 1ST EPG SONG SO BADLY, IF ANYONE HAS IT ON A OLD COMPUTER FROM LIKE 2001 OR SO OR ON ANYTHING UPLOAD IT TO TH-cam OR TO A MEDIASERVER PLEASE! GREATLY APPERCIATED!
There were less channels back then, but the content was of much better quality than today.
HVideos bollocks he’s ducking watching cat from outer space! Just as much total shite!!

It's stuff like this that made TV look exciting back then. I kinda miss this style of watching TV instead of the streaming era we are currently in.

Thanks to sky's epg music, now I'm a DJ and a producer of Drum and bass and breakbeat music, all my music is inspired to the original EPG music!

We all love nostalgia and makes you sad because life was simpler back then and now it’s a very divided place.
As a 2000s kid I do remember this. I had Sky even to this day but dont watch any more
Liekki Animaatio 2000s kid? This style of EPG ended in 2001, no way what you're saying is true.
Nope I had this box til 2015 and had the background music and everything. My mum owned it before I was born since 2000
so peaceful. the music was great back in the late 90's
Wow! That's bringing back memories!!!
Will Semple same and 1999 was the year I was born lol
