- The UK's biggest steelworks will cease production today after more than 100 years, leading to thousands of job losses across South Wales.
Blast Furnace 4 - the final furnace operating at Tata Steel's plant in Port Talbot - will be fully shut down at about 5pm, with the last steel made late on Monday evening.

Did I hear cheering in India and China where new steel continues production...
We will import it from half way around the world because its better for the environment 😂😂😂😂😂
It's strategic they buy out steelworks in the west and then close them after a few years and move the production to china etc.
our governments are blind or have greased palms
This is going to be devastating
They're building an electric arc furnace there, eventually a lot of those jobs will come back so it's not as bad as it sounds.

Trade Unions had the chance 20 years ago to plan for the future, never did, never will. But the Union bosses won't die poor.
The onus for future planning lies squarely with the government. It was they who allowed our country's strategic national industries to be sold to foreign interests.
@@portsmouth1781 More lefty disinformation then. The left destroyed our industries through nationalisation. Thatcher made it possible for new industries to evolve. Blair delivered bugger all but jam tomorrow policies. Its the StasiLiebour and their Unionfilth paymasters that have continued to hold many of our industries to ransom.

Is it really such a good idea when thousands of workers up and down the UK will lose their jobs ?
the problem is employment laws private sector cant afford to employ people like the public sector, public sector have this vision every body is making money by letting them work from home 4 days a week and using every sick day available then sues their boss if they have hurt their finger then they complain when they cant get a skilled worker to do work on one of their houses , skilled trades are dying every body wants to make a fortune with a finger , britain has stopped producing and that means we will go backwards
All of that lost business trade, NI, employer contributions and more. Well they're all screwed.
not reallythe UKs biggest is it, it's indias biggest steelworks in the UK.
How's that helping anything

Only 1 question ...can we do 70 mph passed that jct now 😂
No amount of government subsidiaries and no amount of tax relief can sustain this kind of old industrial sectors.
The economy needs to modernise and move forward.
The Chinese are unmatched both in scale and pricing when it comes to old industry like this.
Its because Chinese sells steel cheaper thananyone else.
Its still the technique used to make steel lad, just for less oney per worker and per unit
Yup, using coal too , to burn .
@@aieverythingsfine" The Chinese sell steel cheaper than anyone"
Exactly. That's the whole point of my argument. They're unmatched in price, efficiency and delivery.
@@shimeymerih And sheer economy of scale. It also helps that some of their advantage comes from a willingness to do things that the UK is not - paying workers barely enough to live on to work sixteen-hour days without proper safety processes, or dumping untreated industrial waste in the nearest river.

Didn’t the Brexiteers say that the Tata steelworks wouldn’t be affected after leaving the EU? Oh dear.
Ah a sado whining whinging remoaner rejoiner and no they didn't say that.
But why this is dreadful
Steel is fundamental to construction. If foreign supply chains are damaged UK will have no steel to build with.
Meanwhile Tata is building a new steel works in India fired by coal but dont worry world the UK has stopped " climate change " by shutting down its steel plants and last coal fired power station.
Unfortunately we have that legislation in place they don't
The coal fired power station shut down because it wasn't making money any more. Natural gas is cheaper.
Most of the less developed countries depend on the technologies from developed countries. Hence, Britain closing down their coal plants will force other under developed countries to close theirs.
Not really. Steel production isn't cutting-edge technology any more. The fundamental design used by almost all steelworks now is from the 1960s. They have the technology already.
Today we sacrificed Port Talbot on the alter of climate change, Saint Greta will be celebrating. We are losing the ability to produce virgin steel needed for warships and submarines whilst Tata recently opened a plant that will produce more than double the CO2 than Port Talbot all I can say is cheers Keir and Co
Hooray 🎉
Find a job or look else where to live, uk is going back to the Stone Ages

Damn. Even our cockney accented friends are doing bad?
Oooorrr is it just Tata the Indian company moving production back 'home' and claiming its a carbon 🤷♂️
Tata closes our furnace but opens a new one in India 🤦♂️
Its because of uk government
Can’t compete with the Chinese haha
Russia 1, UK & Germany 0?
Why not replace the furnaces with low carbon versions?
Uk government could easily protect this operation 🙄 they are chosing not to.
Why not stop the net zero nonsense?
They are but until then they'll import steel from across the world, steel made by burning coal. Utter green loony nonsense.
Money. There are designs for low-carbon steel production, but it costs a lot more. The steel that comes out is the same either way, and no-one is going to pay extra for greener steel when there's no real difference between that and the regular sort. There is a proposal to build a new steelworks nearby already, using an electric arc design. Those are as green as the electricity going in to them.
Though it won't be the hoped-for boon to the community - as an all-new and very modern facility it'll be using a lot more automation and the latest industrial machines, allowing for a smaller labor force. The days when a giant factory could employ thousands and support an entire town have long past now.
