Seeing Turbulence in the Fog on Kaua‘i - Hawaii Revealed

What if we could see turbulence? What would it look like?
On Kaua‘i, warm and cool air mixes in the valleys and around the mountains, creating foggy conditions. Wind that races through these valleys will pile itself up against the rocky walls and push upwards, through the fog, making it appear as though the fog itself is dancing. This is the turbulence that we can see-air swirling around, pushing water droplets from the mist across the island.
Along the Wailua River, just a few miles downstream from Mt. Wai‘ale‘ale and the famous Weeping Wall-the wettest place in the entire world-the fog and winds meet to dance and show us what turbulence looks like. It's a beautiful sight to behold, and there's no better place to see it than in Hawai‘i.
This is an older video from our archives, and it's one that we're perpetually falling in love with. We explore Hawai‘i and other locations from as many angles as we can, especially the air, so when we can see the air itself dancing, we can't help but feel a sense of wonder.
