This is not a coil tattoo machine, but it's a wormhole pen tattoo machine. The inks are very colorful and I had a lot of fun practicing how to tattoo for a beginner.

      @@noneyabuizz9749 you're an excellent mama for that! I raised two beautiful little humans, who have grown up to be considerate, kind, and empathic adult humans. I censored very little with them because I know from experience that being raised with extreme taboos makes for a good deceiver of parents. What I did censor, I explained very well why those things were not appropriate for them to know. They are both very successful young women, entrepreneurs, and both of them love their ink, just like their mama and papa. But, oh, such beautiful ink they have! All in all, I believe that one is fully responsible for one's own babies, and it is up to us to fully explain what is and what is not appropriate in order to live happily and successfully in a society where one might come across a Krazy Karen (whose child has gotten a hold of their credit card without their knowledge to buy a tattoo pen and blame it on others for their TH-cam video content on how to use one on fake skin) to have to deal with accordingly. 🙏❤️

    Hey Jackie, as a tattooist for quite a few years don't worry about what people say :) your numbers on the packaging are by needle group sizes like 5rl=5 needle round liner, 7rl=7 needle round liner, anything that is an L is liner anything with an S is a shader. The difference between them is the liner is soldered to a tight tip and a shader is soldered to a loose spread. The other shaders you have are flat shaders they come in a few types from the previous video are called magnums both 1 and 2 they are a staggered flat position in ranging sizes. To hold your ink cups you get an ink cup holder they are normally stainless steel so they can be sterilized. Ink cups also come in different sizes for line work =smaller cups and for shading and colour filling a larger cup. They go by sizes like #10, #14 ect. Your 2 coil machines have different windings on the coils and different armature spring pressure so the smaller coils are for line work and the larger coils are for colour packing. Oh and the thing about all tattoo kits is to check over the connections 100 times they tend to shift,move,pull out during shipping which gives you those power drops and make sure your contact point is aligned and properly set spacing (about a dime thickness for liner and a about a nickel for shader.) You will get the feel for proper running by the sound after awhile. Keep on inkin' and smiling

      It’s not about the fake skin getting hurt, it’s about developing good habits. It’s probably not as important for Jackie as it doesn’t seem like she has any intention of doing this seriously and tattooing people. But if you do, you should always wear gloves, regardless of what you’re working on. It helps get you into the habit, and get used to working in gloves because it can be much harder to set up a machine or transfer a stencil with them than without.

    • @joelgomez562
      @joelgomez562 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You want the needles at an angle? Not vertical, easier to damage the skin and get blowout or cut the skin and cause bad trauma

  • @ironsiri2187
    @ironsiri2187 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Hey. My daughter and I love your videos. I do have a little bit of experience tattooing, and I had a suggestion. On your "shader" needle, one reason you weren't having much success with it was that your needles were adjusted too far out. You need to adjust it to where they're shorter. Also, to get more saturation of the ink into the skin, move at a slower pace as well as sink the needles deeper into the skin. I hope that helps your future practice sessions.

  • @sarahc8862
    @sarahc8862 3 ปีที่แล้ว +215

    First thing is the splatters are normal, on a human you would start the outline from the bottom up so you can be constantly dabing away excess ink with a paper towel that has been lightly sprayed with a water green soap mixture this keeps it all clean as you go you are also dabing with the Vaseline to prevent damage to the skin and any scabs from forming, you don't want scabs because they pull ink out with them when they fall off , and you can clean between colors in a large solo cup of water .I worked in a tattoo shop for several years doing all the paperwork and I would spend off time drawing flash and watching the artist's work

  • @ayarosen1035
    @ayarosen1035 3 ปีที่แล้ว +897

    A few more things that may help:
    When you dab off the paint, do it with a damp paper towel.
    Fake skin sucks, practicing on an orange is a lot more like actual skin, and a lot more fun.
    The reason why the shading needle didn't work is that your angle was too small the needle needs to be about 45-60 degrees from the surface.

    If you have specific questions about tattooing, i'm a professionnal tattoo artist since 10 years ;P I would be super interested to try your cheap machine XD since you're using this only with a fake skin, it doesnt really matter, but we see that quality of ink is really... random (you have super liquid one and turdy one.. they should all be mid-liquid-mid-turdy). The splatter is strong here because you're using a fake skin (and the desk under it is way harder than the arm of someone. ) when you put the needle in the ink cup, you're not supposed to press the machine because you might hit the needle in the bottom for ink cup (and it can break the needle, which could be dangerous for the skin of someone, your fakeskin should be alright :P but it might also be harder to use the needle). also using a humid scott would help you to clean the fakeskin. Bref, beaucoup de détails :P

    Jackie! You can add water to your ink to make it thinner, or make it less opaque, when I had my tattoo done, my artist thinned out some black to make the shadows. its mush easier to get realistic layers of shadow with thinner color!
    For anyone who wants to know: I got my tattoo as a graduation gift while I was on a grad trip to Colorado. I designed my tattoo and had my artist do his rendition in my skin. The "wheel" is actually something called grip tape - a lot of tattoo artists use it to wrap the grip of their machine so they can hold it more comfortably. You can also just use a paper cup to clean the needle for ink, since you usually will be using a lot of water and the cup gives you more space to clean it. Oh, and a damp towel and vaseline will help you clean the skin from excess ink so it'll be easier to see what is actually colored and not! :)

    To be fair Jackie has learned quite a lot since last video.
    There are two reasons why we start with the lines:
    - first we usually have a stencil that we're following, so starting with the lines helps us not loose the drawing and keep the structure of the piece
    - second, in order to preserve the colours, we go from dark to light, and in general lines are darker than most of the rest of the piece. In a rainbow for instance, you'd do your yellow absolute last, just as Jackie did.
    These two vids were very fun, even as a tattooing tattoo apprentice, I appreciated every second (even when being a little bit fearful). And leeemme tell you that if them youngsters want to buy Amazon kits, they will, Jackie or not. Maybe the importance of Jackie's video is showing how crucial it is to get good advice and practice.

    Just some general tips from a tattoo artist! ♥ I've always used disposable small paper cups to rinse between inks. It's a lot bigger. It may help you out. You can absolutely add water to ink; it'll just dilute it a bit and give you a less saturated colour. But always shake your ink bottles before dispensing! Your ink will separate if it sits in one spot too long. Coil is an older type of machine. That's actually what I started out learning. It's more "traditional" if you will. Rotary or "the pen" is more of a newer tattoo machine. As for the transfer paper... "bUt JaCkIe, YoU dId It WrOnG." you, uh.. took off the back of the transfer paper. You take that white piece off that you originally tried to get a mark on, put the paper you printed on the purple paper, and trace over the printed image. I hope this helps and you continue on your tattoo journey! I love the videos!!

    I'm not a tattoo artist but I own quite a lot tattoos, all done by professionals. I honestly don't see any way Jackie would be insulting the business or showing bad example in these. If anything, she shows in her videos how much skill and knowledge this kind of job needs and how it works from the eyes of amateur. She is doing this for fun and what's more important, responsibly with fake skin and everything. As a person who only has tattoos but doesn't know much about the tattooing itself, I've found these super interesting. Tattoo student here again!
    I love watching this cuz I'm so nervous to pick up the machine later on, BUT i do wanna say a few more things!
    - blotting the tip of the needle on a paper towel is common practice! Helps prevent the splatter as bad! And I *think* it's possibly worse than usual cuz its getting on the needle tube and vibrating off vs going fully into the reservoir!
    - using soap and water (or even alcohol, diluted baby shampoo, etc) can clean ink off easier! On real skin, so no doubt fake skin too!
    - most artists nowadays use rotary machines because they do it all with easy tube replacements, plus they are held like pens are!
    - the gloves are probably latex which lowers the ability to feel, so we don't use em (plus allergies) Nitrile gloves are thinner and more comfy!
    - you can add water to colors! Actually how black and grey tattoos are done; you dont use straight grey ink, you use diluted black!
    - in real life tattoos, petroleum isnt that great cuz it clogs pores, and can get too slippery, so be careful to not use too much or the needle will slide!
    - i got to the part where you said line first, the reason we do it is because the stencil will wipe off, so you have to work bottom to top to prevent that as much as possible!
    - with lining, you want to keep it to 1-2 passes so skin doesnt get cut or overworked! (And more technical, the needle should only go in about 2mm so the reason some places might look "shadowed" or blurry might be bc youre going too deep! And on the other side, ink comes out if it isn't put in deep enough)
    Lil tidbits :)

I pulled the signatures from the most meaningful letters my parents wrote to me when I was in the Army, and had them tattooed just after my father died (he was a WWII veteran who survived Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge - then went on to liberate Langenstein camp). Whenever my PTSD kicks in, I simply look at my wrists and I feel strong and grounded once again. It’s come in handy after the last few years in the U.S.

Maybe get more comfortable with the shaders and the like and the help from the comments. Don't worry -- this is how all artists start out! That's why you don't do it on real skin. And if any parent actually thinks their kid can get a hold of a tattoo machine -- why have you given them credit cards at a young age or access to yours without knowing what they're buying? Parent your child -- don't let youtube do it for you!

But enjoyed the video. Also the gloves are used to keep the machine and other equipment from being contaminated before using it. Safety first 👍

    My two main tattoos (the third is a Friday 13th paper airplane, just for fun) we're done with the coil. I love them, thought the most recent definitely went too deep in places. My first is an anchor surrounded by a orange blossom, yellow rod, cherry blossom, yellow lily and a hibiscus. Each flower represents where I've lived since my dad's military. It was a 18th bday present from my parents since my sister got one for her 18th the year prior. My second is a women with a rose as her hair, obscuring her eyes. This one is a drawing my sister did and made into a decal using her cricut. I love the design and got it tattooed back in March as a late 21st bday present to myself

    The “bandage” is tender tape: it’s used for lots of things. In sports, for animals (like horses), in BDSM and in tattooing it is used to make a more comfortable grip for the pen. Even people with a traditional machine use it to pad their grip.

    Hey, a tip about the gloves from someone who has worked with food and has to wear latex or nitrile gloves the whole shift every day.
    You should try grabbing one by the edge of the cuff and then pull the glove off so that it turns inside out, the hold the glove you just took off in the other hand and peel that glove off. They should be balled together like socks with one inside the other. It's an easier way to take them off of a sweaty hand than pulling from the fingers. It also keeps all the stuff you touched wrapped inside.

    I love how the Karens immediately assume that all these unsupervised children with credit cards are suddenly watching your channel and will buy this and then put it together and use it all unsupervised. Really, if your kid has a sudden interest and a need for tattoos after two videos, then maybe a fun project to do with their kids would be to make their own temp tattoos instead.

    My tattoo artist uses a simple system for holding his ink cups - he wraps a small tray in saran wrap then he puts a small blob of vaseline on the bottom of each ink cup so it will stick down to his covered tray - the cups are held down securely and when he's done he can just pick up the edges of the saran wrap, fold them in, and throw out the whole ball of ink, cups, vaseline, and plastic wrap.
