It seems to me there are more Nikon shooters that are prepared to trust AW balance and Auto ISO than in other brands. It's one of those things that can be a real advantage for a fast shoot but doesn't get noticed on a spec sheet. Nikons just work well but it's difficult to get that through to people.
This shoot was easy light, but I really enjoy the way Nikon colour profiles tend to just make the best of bad light. It's one of the reasons I've stuck with them for so long.
They way they handle color is why I switched from Canon. I brought two cameras on a shoot and the Nikon blew the Canon out of the water. I sold my Canon gear within days because I couldn’t excuse how much time the Nikon colors cut editing time in Lightroom. The Nikon DSLRs were also better for video than my 4K Panasonic. Have been using Nikon ever since.

Great video! I’m looking to add another prime to my Z6ii kit. I have the S 85 f1.8 and thinking this 50mm might be it. It’s hard to decide between the focal lengths 24, 35 and 50. But this 50 seems to check the boxes for low light
I recently got a barely used (NIB return) 50 1.8 S at B&H. Works great but the AF motor is audibly louder than that of my 20-70 f4 S and my 35mm 1.8 s. While the AF motor definitely has an audible wine to it, as I was trying to figure it out I noticed that the aperture "flutters" as focus changes contributing to the noise. It's most obvious if you manual focus the lens slowly. It flutters every so often. If you focus a tad bit faster it flutters even more. It's as if there some sort of crosstalk between the AF motor and the aperture motor. I don't think this is normal, but have you seen this in your copy? I'd hate to RMA a perfectly good lens if this is some sort of quirk that the lens exhibits (though my gut tells me it's a defect of this specific lens and may even be why it was originally returned). Great video (again), Taylor. I have the 24mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm Z series with my Z7 and Z6. I absolutely adore each of those lenses for different reasons. However, I’ve been thinking of getting the 24-70 f2.8 to bring with me for more casual shoots with family and my kids. I am concerned I might be dissatisfied at f2.8 because I just love shooting wide open with my Primes. I’d be really keen to hear your opinion of the 24-70 Z lens. Honestly, the Z 24-70 2.8 really impresses me. As you know I'm a prime shooter as well, and it was really hard to spend the money on it (I purchased it myself, not borrowed from Nikon) but I'm happy I did. I've never really enjoyed 24-70 lenses in the past, but this one brings in like 85% of what I like from primes and makes it way more convenient. The variations of images I can create more than makes up for the 15% loss in look and feel from depth of field, because it still does a fantastic job

Your point does make sense, this is what I had been thinking but I was concerned for it to sit in the bag and never get used. Here in Australia it is $3399 so I want to make sure it gets some use! Daniel, how do you like the Z7 and Z6 setup? Looking at adding the Z6 to my Z7 but never had two different camera models. I’ve always shot with two D750s.
FWIW, two years later... This is a great piece of glass, but at times is almost bitingly *too* sharp from the output I've seen in general, but that's not really here or there. If anyone is on the fence about this or the 35/1.8 I'd steer them toward the 35 every time. 50s are simply one of the easiest lengths to manual focus and there is an absolutely trove of dirt-cheap, amazing vintage-to-new 50s to pick up and use (and very expensive as well). That's to say I don't normally find the AF system as critical in general for a 50. 28 to 35 takes more practice to manual focus (at least at fast apertures) because your FOV is so much wider.... In addition, manual focus vintage 28 and 35 fast glass is far less common and usually far more expensive. And quite simply, for a native mount weather-sealed fast prime on the Z bodies, a 35 is going to be a lot more versatile in the long run. Get both if you like and can afford to, but if you're on a budget and trying to choose, I'd recommend a wider length like the 35. Cheers. Good stuff.

@@Z_DiB Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I got out of Nikon a year ago. The autofocus was too unreliable for the work I was doing.
