Wrecks of Saipan | Part 4 | Shoan Maru

- Japanese wreck Shoan Maru. Also known as Chinsen.
It was torpedoed, then towed to Saipan for repairs, where later it was sunk by the Americans. It was later used for bombing runs and target practice leaving the wreck mostly shattered into pieces - however some key elements of the ship of still recognizable. The bow is intact, as are the boilers.

I just left saipan and dove this wreck. I loved it there so much. I wish I could figure out when to go back but too many other places to visit still.
It's great tho, to be able to see so much life on these wrecks that helped participate in causing so much death too!

Hey Freedivier HD, been a subscriber for a little while now and have seen all your videos, do you think you can make a video on what you do at the surface, just before a dive? i.e. duckdiving, pulling the snorkel out, when you first equalize, etc. I've started filming my dives but I find it to be so awkward having to hold the camera, duck dive, pull out the snorkel, and equalize all very quickly. thanks for the help!! Cheers.

I want my dive to be the most comfortable possible so.. do you recommend this kind of mask or this is useless ?

Really enjoy your videos. I noticed you almost always wear an aqua lung sphera mask. How is the vision/vision distortion through it when you're observing underwater and how many years does a mask usually last you?
The sphera lasts about 2 years on average. But im sure it can last double that and more, if you look after it properly - wash it completely clean, and store it in a cool dry place out of sunlight.Personally I dont see any distoring wearing the sphera, but i do see the distorting when wearing other masks which use tempered glass , as they have a 33% magnification effect. Since the sphea uses a plastic lens, it doesnt magnify as much.

Well its 8m-12m deep inside the lagoon - and 11km deep just outside the barrier reef (worlds deepest ocean trench).

Where do you live? And are you traveling long for some diving areas? What's the usual distance you travel for diving?
I live in Taipei, Taiwan. I'm travelling on average within 4-6 hour flight radius.

Jim the Him No dive city in Taipei, too much of a major capital city... even within a few hour drive there still isnt much to dive.

When does your ears hurt (if they do) beacuse my ears start to hurt when i dive with my head first or when i reach 3meters, please answer and if you got any tips on how i could avoid the pain please tell.
Equalise. everyone has the same amount of pain, it's the pressure of the water which pushes your eardrums inside, to counter this pinch your nose and blow with your nose, the air will go to your ear and push the eardrums back out which relieves the pain, practice and you'll master it in a day, when you go very deep this is impossible though so there is a different manoeuvre can't remember the name, but this should work up to 15-20 m?

Craig Mager I have seen a few, some in South Africa (7 gill), and some in Palau (black tips, white tips). I thought they were all quite nice and well behaved animals, doing their patrols, and not really interested in me. Great white I have not seen, thankfully. I don't want to see one. That is the one shark i dont trust.
