Bloody hell! Absolutely not! I'm English and I can see that other teams also have quality players. Who can play together as a unit.
Most of us have been anti-Southgate since 2018, but after tonight can anybody seriously still be pro-Southgate?
Under him England have always been negative and boring to watch, but clearly now we see that top players putting in good performances and easy fixtures were masking just how bad a manager he is. From the squad selection onwards this tournament has shown him for what he is.

Southgate is no different to all the other coaches who have coached england the last many decades of failure.
People with a brain are still pro-Southgate. Everybody tries to copy Pep Guardiola's tic tac tikitaktics because it's effective for winning soccer games, but Southgate understands the true meaning of soccer; soccer is all about drama, entertainment, the highs, and the lows. Southgate and to a lesser extent his team are producing a theatrical masterpiece. A slow build up in the group stages and a thrilling end to the first act tonight against Slovakia. I can only sit at the edge of my seat in anticipation and wait to see what Southgate has planned next for my viewing entertainment. Southgate's England are clearly going to make it to the final, there's no doubt about that. What then is going to be the ultimate theme for Southgate and his heroes? A heroic victory or a tragic defeat? Of course England soccer fans want to win the tournament, but I think that is too simple for a mind as deep and complex as Southgate's... but we will see
With all due respect, the people who have been anti Southgate since 2018 are all brain damaged and understand football roughly as well as the cactus on my windowsill. No exceptions. But he has performed badly so far this tournament, in my opinion he has shown real failures in his preparations. But that's this tournament. Southgate is the only manager to win the opening game of the Euros, and he's done it twice. He's also won both his opening World Cup games. He's never failed to qualify, never gone out in the group stages, and... still... has yet to go out to anyone embarrassing in a cup. His England teams have played in more knockout games, won more knockout games, and scored more goals in knockout games than any other England manager in history, in fact, in all three of those he's either beating every other England manager combined, or he's close to it. If you think this is a bad time to be an England fan you might be in for a tough realisation when it's over.
England barely beat Slovakia, how are they going to survive against France,Germany and all the other good teams. I don’t see England winning anything.
They play to the level of their opposition. When they meet the bigger teams, they'll counter them.
Forget all that, they are going to have a hard time with Switzerland.
Good thing is Germany Spain and France are all on the other side of the draw so they can only meet in the final and if they do anything can happen in the final

They had no attack, no plan, no tactics. The goals came from two pieces of exceptional individual play. On the day, England were the second best "team". This isn't a case of a bump in the road and they saw it through. England have been poor in all four matches, while also being boring and almost watchable.

Southgate has successfully made excellent players look like Sunday league players. What a waste of this generation of excellent players! A team full of players from the top teams in the premiere league, players of the year in the EPL, La Liga, highest scorer in the Bundesliga, etc. and we are playing like this? It must be Southgate!!!!
Unquestionably we have proven talent in that squad! Yet do we even want to win a tournament, by scraping, scratching, fighting and lucking our way through? If you are not going to win convincingly with fearless, attacking, fluent football, then don't be there at all.
Why is mainstream media in England being soft on Southgate. Maybe they have a far too cosy relationship with Southgate and FA to be objective. They are completely out of step with the public. I have seen foreign media be far more critical of Southgate. The French media called Southgate useless. German media said Southgate is the worst coach at the Euros and should hire Klopp. The Brazilian media have said Southgate is the biggest weakness of the England team and the English media use euphemism instead of calling Southgate out.
Look at how much attention a couple of empty plastic cups thrown in his general direction got from the media. ITV had Karen Carney (why is she there in the first place - no experience of playing as a man or against men) going 'boohoo no one should face that' as if he had been glassed. The media view the public with contempt especially the male heterosexual public, we are trolls, toxic, racist if we don't like whatever they are serving us up whether it's shite TV or shite England football.
Southgate is paralysed. He has no stomach to make hard decisions. The number one attribute of the best leaders is courage under fire. Making clear decisions and changing plans when things go wrong. Southgate has literally none of that

Great at not having a shot on target for 90+ minutes. Great at admitting he was 'exhausted' in the Denmark match, yet still played when others were available. Great at scoring one goal against a side 40+ places below England in the FIFA ranking. We need to redefine great, because to me that is shite.
I’m German. I picked England to win this tournament. But, they’ve been quite poor. I’m not sure why. Unbelievable talent all gathered on one team. But, they are looking so average.

Dear, my proposition to solve the England problem. Key roles:
1. False 9 (Jude Billingham): can drop into midfield to create numerical superiority, presses high, and interchanges with Harry Kane.
2. Traditional 10 (Phil Foden): can control the game, dictate tempo, and provide much required creativity.
3. Holding Midfielders (Declan Rice and kobbie mainoo)
4. Right wing: (Bukayo Saka) can provide pace, dribbling, and direct attacking threat.
5. Left wing jarrod Bowen or Eberechi.
Formation 4-2-3-1 in defensive mode or after losing the ball 4-5-1, which will help maintain a compact and organised shape,making it difficult for the opposition to penetrate.
Don't forget what this match did for us, it was a wake up call and must have shifted the momentum

Not in a million years. Last night was a joke. Switzerland win easily against us. I'm looking forward to when Gareth leaves England, then we can get a proper tactical and technical manager who plays expressive, attacking football. This current team is setup to play like San Marino. I don't know where this notion of attractive football does not win trophies comes from -- it's rubbish! And Gareth's decision making is not calmness, it's clueless inaction. I would take Ipswich's current manager: Kieran McKenna. His teams over-perform, unlike Gareth's underperformances.

They are very very lucky to equalise in the final minutes of the second half.

However, I feel that the subs Palmer, Eze & Toney had make a big diff to the team's progress when they came in.

England can win the Euro's providing they don't have to play Spain, Portugal, Germany, France or Belgium.
If you take Spain,Germany,Austria,Portugal,France and Switzerland out of the tournament then yes,we have an outside chance. But the best way to increase our chance is by removing Southgate! And the whole world knows it!
Man utd took penalties to beat COVENTRY in the semi finals to then go on and beat man city in the final.
Also en route, Scored a 87thth minute equaliser, to take it to extra time, and then a 120+1 minutes equaliser to take it to penalties vs Liverpool in the quarter finals......
None of the football was pleasing to watch, but at the end still won it.

The MENS team has failed to achieve anything since ‘66. I have very little confidence of them advancing further. I don’t understand how such a generationally great group of players can be made to look so average. Unless something changes I think the Swiss will wipe the floor with England and really don’t see us getting to the final.

England have definitely had teams that were comfortable with the ball and happy to run at opponents. The Euro 96 side was terrific, with Sheringham a great link man who loved having the ball, Anderton on the right flank, McManaman on the left, Gascoigne behind with Platt and Ince. The WC 98 team was a very capable side as well.
We played France probably the best team in the world at the time 98 is excusable

Take off Bellingham, Kane, Foden, Rice. Put on Gordon, Watkins, Bowen and Palmer. Cannot be worse than the misery football we have had to endure so far from England. Some of the best players in club football playing so poorly it's hard to watch.
Can the English media stop crediting Southgate with English clubs producing better more technical players in larger numbers than ever before. No England manager has ever worked with pool of talent so deep and got such easy draws. He has underperformed given the talent England has and the decline of the major nations. He lost to the shower of sh*t Italian team that failed to qualify for the World Cup twice in a role and got eliminated in the first round and after 8 years of being charge of this to have no structure, patterns of play or organisation really exposes Southgate and his coaching team as truly awful.

It's weird because the combination of a manager near the end of his reign, unconvincing performances and the usual mixture of hype beforehand (England are either the best squad around prior to tournaments or overpaid cloggers who don't care with a terrible manager - it depends who you listen to but it tends to be one or the other) means there's a really flat atmosphere. I've seen tournaments like this before with England but they usually have one really good win (usually in the last group game or last 16) which fires up expectations. This time around they've just been flat all the way so far but are getting through and have managed to avoid a lot of the bigger teams (they can only play one and it'd have to be the final). Maybe they are going to find form unexpectedly later on and actually win?
They look like anything but potential champions but you know they are because they can only play better. Or.....they meet the first better team and their patched up defence and lack of ideas in possession get shown up and punished. I wouldn't rule out the first thing but on performances so far they need a bounce off getting through tonight because the second thing looks much more likely.
By the way.....I'm not a dinosaur and understand the proliferation of inside forwards in the modern game (mostly following Pep) but don't they look so much better when their wide players stay a bit wider and stretch defences? They've got so many players wanting to drop into the number 10 position and I think that's easier to do at club level, where you get to coach players more. So far, it just looks congested, with a lack of runners, easy for the other team to stay compact and defend, and predictable. The wide players ought to try to give defenders some doubt rather than always turning inside because when they do that it's about the only time Kane and Bellingham come alive.
They have zero chance against Switzerland. England only had one attempt on target before extra time. And they were lucky it was a goal.
Switzerland were very good against an Italy side who were even worse than England. There is no doubt, on the evidence of last night's England performance Switzerland will dispose of England as well, unless they improve. The buck stops at Southgate on that. Can he inspire them, can he get the balance right in the team, can he get the tactics right ? The jury is out on all this. I still feel Southgate's job is on the line.

England has the ability to be a completely different side between 2 matches. It's possible that it's woken them all up. But Switzerland are playing very well, and I think they'll win. The difference between a semi-final exit and a qtr-final is huge. I'm thinking 2-0 Switzerland, unless the big players finally switch on.
England is a very strange country for national football manager, if you blame Southgate, then you should be better blame England does not have home-grown good manager, also willing to take this responsibility as national coach with millions of pessimistic individuals.

Group sport always is not 1 + 1 = 2 that easy, it requires team to integrate with the right gel and formation, mentality, right chemistry between individual. If Southgate has Guardiola as his head coach, there is 200 times this England can win, but this is not.
Of course not. England has quality; there's no denying that. What they lack is the tactical genius of an Ancelotti to get the most out of a talented bunch of players.I want England to win it, and I go into each game with renewed hope, but there's always this sinking feeling when brilliance on paper fails to materialise into convincing dominance on the pitch.
