Move Jude back slightly and play Foden centrally. If it doesn’t work then bench him, but TRY it!

You can't carry players in international tournaments. There is nothing wrong with Foden starting on the bench.

They’re so bleeding negative. It’s the first game we’ve never been great starters in tournaments, all these ex pros coming out talking shite when most never got to a tournament or possibly just once in their careers but they’ve know how to play them. It’s laughable
Their only concern are only toward Foden and not the whole England team. For them it is okay England lose and does not win the trophy as long as Foden wake up from his sleep and reach his high level. It is more like Foden agenda than Football Coming home agenda.
The English press want to create something like Messi-esque but the man have to be English white with good technical ability and has the similar size like Messi.
It is part of the agenda to the selling point by using Foden and they don't know that by doing this they are actually destroying Foden confidence which will make him even harder to wake up from his dream.
As similar like the English Press, those many English former footballer and some English fanatic plus idiotic fans also playing the same card of "the need to get the best out of Foden in this tournament" which they thought tournament is for player trial and it's never mind if England have to lose the game as long as Foden get his best back.
What i want to say is they are actually Foden's fans and not England's fans because all they want is to see Foden become the player of the tournament and they never think about England winning the tournament.

We don't need a double pivot. Rice Bellingham and Foden is the midfield.

England should play 4-4-2 formation or 4-1-3-2 formation , we need quality and numbers in the midfield . Play in Wharton , Mainoo , Rice , Bellingham together , and play Forden and Kane upfront . Bellingham , Forden and Kane will score the goals . We dont need wingers to drop and assist defence at this stage , we need midfield that links defence , mid and attack .

Player that can't do this above criteria then he is just a mediocre lucky lad who was born in a big club.
To be honest I haven't seen any former World great players have the same experienced like what happened to Foden, great at one club and then become mediocre at another club or national team under different tactic or manager.
Juventus's Zidand are the same with France's Zidane, PSG's Mbappe is the same with France's Mbappe, Liverpool's VVD is the same with Holland's VVD, Bayern's Musiala is the same as Germany's Musiala, Madrid's Bellingham is the same as England's Bellingham, Arsenal's Rice is the same as England's Rice, and it is only Man City's Foden is different with England's Foden.
Tbh I think it's all about mentality, If Foden after this game would say something like: "I put a disaster class today, And I will work on myself and do the best to show that I'm worthy to start with for England" It would make a lot of sense and actually would be a remarkable of mentality.

Wharton are much more suitable bar he is natural deep lying midfielder. Against Serbia practically Rice was surrounded by Serbian midfielder while Trent was seen nervous and his anticipation and movement was not functioning.
Southgate needs to play phil in middle to get best out of him he's a class player .

@@delete9090 When the big teams in Europe play each other it’s rare either dominate. It’s about the minutia in the big games and Southgate just doesn’t have the tactical wherewithal in those situations.
There’s still hope to be had though, our team is young for the most part with players coming through so IF the FA appoint a decent manager next we do have a chance.

I’m ok with Foden playing but Starting TAA ahead of Mainoo doesn’t make much sense. England are so much better both offensively and defensively when Mainoo plays alongside Rice.
Mainoo went missing against Iceland last week and England lost. The kid can't handle international football yet.
Against a far superior Serbia team, Trent started and England won.

foden wasn't the problem. our issue is we have 3 right footers playing down the left, if you include rice.
as good as trippier is, we needed someone with a left foot to widen the pitch.
when foden, rice or trippier had the ball they immediately cut back inside to their right foot.
trent is a great passer, but we lose energy and intensity of a gallagher or mainoo defensively.
I think the whole squad is the problem. I don't think a little formation change will change the fact that they aren't a squad that will dominate France, Spain and Germany...
