Kipchoge was literally the world 5000 meter champion in 2003 at 18 years old, not only beating Kenenisa Bekele but also Hicham El Guerrouj AKA the undisputed best middle distance runner ever who would've won the race otherwise.
@@maloxi1472 Not if you consider all surfaces, track, cross-country, and road. Bekele still rules. Kipchoge is a marathon specialist, but that too when he is protected by pacers.
@@johy2007 Kipchoge had a successful career in the shorter distance for almost a full decade before he transitioned to the marathon. Besides, I didn't see any pacers at the last two Olympic games that he won convincingly. Moreover, he's still competing at a high level and beat his own world record less than a year ago (which Bekele had tried and failed to do multiple times before), while Bekele might as well be retired at this point. I can't be convinced that he "still rules" under those conditions. Another, very crucial point that isn't mentioned enough is the frequency and severity of their respective injuries throughout their careers. KIpchoge is able to run at such a high level while still keeping his injuries much more under control. This higher sustainability is a result of his higher efficiency and it even shows when you compare their running form. That's why Kipchoge is the very best in my opinion.
@@maloxi1472 I wonder why he always avoided Boston till this year. And this year was a deep deep field. I would have loved to see EK take on Boston like Yuki did a few years ago. EK is undoubtedly one of the greats, but take track, cross country and road, I would not consider him to be the greatest.
Bekelle! Mesmo com seus recordes dos 5 e 10 km atualmente já superados, ainda é e será sempre considerado o melhor de todos, pelo seu estilo único e Sprint final fantástico para as distâncias👏👏👏👏👏
Bernard Lagat is a BEAST. Never saw a man almost 50 be able to run an incredible 13:17 5k race distance. This goes to show everyone that humans are SO much more capable than we think we are. Congrats!
Great race. However, the best 5k and 10k competitor of all time was also in that race but didn't finish in the medals...2009 was a few years too early in his development. I refer, of course, to GB's Mo Farah who went on to achieve the Gold double double (5,000m and 10,000m) at the London Olympics and then again at the Rio Olympics. He also won the Gold double double at the world championships in 2013 and 2015. Incredibly, in 2017, he again won the 10k but was pipped into 2nd place in the 5k. No one has a better major championship record at these two distances than Farah..

@@FascinateNonExoticKeepers Are you sure he was "literally" the world champion, not just figuratively the world champion?

Bekele will always be the best long distance runner 👑👑👑👑
"Always" is too strong of a word. He had his time but now, Kipchoge is the uncontestable GOAT of long distance running

The fact that's many people wouldn't agree

Blunt one right here...bekele is good but kipchoge is a phenomenon.Dont only judge by this competition alone..kipchoge is the goat

Normally if you are not a kicker (no speed) you don’t run a kicker’s race.. Bikelle did a great job out kicking a kicker
Brutal carrera.. nada que hacer para Eliud.
Kenenisa is the best❤
