- Its here! A new and improved video of the Trainz History has been worked on since January of this year (2022) is now available to be watched.
Unlike the previous version of the video, this one corrects information and adds new pictures to more of the Trainz games. This video features all the Trainz games from the very first version (Trainz Community Edition) to the current game (Trainz Railroad Simulator 2022).

I know it’s kinda easy to miss, but you missed Trainz Railroad Simulator 2008, which in a nutshell, is a repackaged version of Trainz Classics 1+2 with content from earlier releases. Much of this content was included in Trainz 2009.
It is a forgotten version. Next time I remake the video I’ll be making sure it’s included. Thanks for the info.

Great video! It is definitely a massive step up in quality from the last history video, which was already quite good!
A question - do you have any tips or advice with buying copies of Trainz second-hand? Also, have TD2016 and TMR17 been completely wiped from online, as in you can't buy them anymore?

As for your questions:
Answer to Q1 - the way how I would handle 2nd handed copies of Trainz are buying them anyway but not registering them as more likely they'll be already registered to the original Trainz account. Attempting to register them you'll get your account disabled basically which then you'll have to go through the helpdesk to get it resolved. I did hear stories that some Trainzers bought 2nd handed copies of Trainz, messaged the seller and the seller had no idea what they were talking about. You might also be able to run the serial number through Zec to see if he comes up with something or not but of course he doesn't have to do it. Overall, its basically pure luck.
Answer to Q2 - yes, those two specialised versions of Trainz have been removed completely from all online markets. I already own TMR17 as the stand-alone but don't own TD2016 (even though the timeline says I do but not going to complete as I like it lol). TD2016 was remove so N3V could shift their resources on supporting the main game instead of having to support the main version and the driver only version. TMR17 (stand-alone) was removed when N3V redid the DRM servers via the certificates due to security issues which renders TMR17 inoperable (I made a tutorial on the forums that fixes this). TMR17 was Windows only and I want to say TD2016 was also Windows only - again can't say for sure on TD2016 since I don't own it.
While you can't buy the TMR17 stand-alone version anymore you can still buy the TMR17 DLC bundle which will give you the items used in TMR17.

I've been thinking about buying Trainz TCC because it includes UTC, TRS2004 and 06 fully patched with the Trainz Routes. However, I can't find a seller on eBay that sells it sealed. Looks like the Trainz Routes are just available on the DLS, and they had no included session, so I could just buy a regular 2006 DVD and port them over. I also don't know where to find the patches online if I go that route. Do you know the best place to find older copies of Trainz online? It's fine if you don't.

@@srking783 I don’t mind at all but prepare for a long answer…
Sometimes eBay likes to hide sellers but after digging around you can find one that’s at a good price. Let me tell you that most will be used so looking for a sealed copy is a needle in a haystack. I do from time to time run into a supposedly sealed copy with a ridiculous price tag. As long as you don’t register the serial number with your account you’ll be good. keep in mind that attempting to register the serial number of a used item will limited your Trainz account so you’ll have to contact the helpdesk to get it resolved. From what I’ve heard some buyers would message the seller asking if the serial was registered and sometimes they’ll get a simple yes and others the seller doesn’t know what they’re talking about lol.
I’ve bought all my Trainz games as new and just needed to get my physical library built up so this wasn’t a problem for me.
Yes, most of the Trainz Route packs are on the DLS so you can use them in any version of Trainz. The ones on disc that comes with TTCC are exclusive for TRS2006. Some do come with sessions but most you’ll have to create your own (standards at the time didn’t require sessions to go with a DLC route unlike today).
Back in the days patches would be on the official Trainz website (like UTC would be on trainz.com, TRS2006 would be on trs2006.com, etc). you might be able to find these websites still online but the actual files more likely won’t be available for download. For TS2009 to TS12 you would head over to www.auran.com/servicepacks/ and find your game plus build number and work your way to the latest version. I won’t worry about patching the older versions of Trainz to the latest and would use them out of the box unless the box comes with the patches. If you really want to patch Trainz up your best bet will be Googling around and see if a website has the patches.
Back in 2016 when N3V was going Trainz15th anniversary event you could buy every single Windows version of Trainz in digital format on the Trainz Store starting at $0.99 with Trainz v1 being given away for free and be able to register the serial number (as it was considered new) and keep them forever. It was a nice event they did.
I heard about that 15th anniversary thing they did...but of course I made a MyTrainz account a year (even a month later too!) after they ran that. Oh well, I'll still try finding them...or maybe just don't and use TS2009 for the older routes. We'll see :D

I was hoping N3V did something like that for the 20th anniversary but going to be honest it wasn't that great of an event except to get people to sign up for Trainz Plus or to get TRS22 and that was it.
For sure if you decide to give up looking for the older versions cuz can't find them or too expensive there is good ol' TS2009 to play with :D
