    Great video! I've got pretty much everything you suggested (and more - jetboil and coffee :-) ). Off to Everest Base Camp next week (Easter 2019). My only concern is that I am overweight. I've been training extensively around Sydney with a pack thats always about 6-8 kg + a 1.5 ltr water bottle. I'm a bit worried that I'll be well over the weight for the plane flight to Lukla. Can I pay for extra kg?

We would suggest that you speak with the company you are traveling with to make sure what their weight limits are for the trek. For the flights - the company you are going with may have certain rules with overweight luggage, so not sure how they will deal with this! Also wondering if you pick up clients at the airport in Katmandu and transport to hotel upon their arrival. I am female and would be traveling alone. Also what about money transfer? Where are the safest places to do that upon arrival?

      Thanks Ian. When I do my trek I kind of want to do it with less support than you will give. Not for saving cost just my style to be a little bit more free, but this is great info you are providing. Actually was thinking of doing the K2 trek to base camp instead of the everest, we'll see.

  • @thegorn
    @thegorn 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I see guides recommending strong boots with ankle support, and people who have completed the trek saying that they wished they'd worn trekking shoes instead. I think the guides want to cover themselves and not create headaches for themselves by having inexperienced people screw up their ankles with trainers, but I think the pro trekkers would be fine with trainers... but the risk is on them. Anyway if you go in with a group it's not a race. I recommend mid-length ankle boots, and if your legs aren't strong enough to haul boots up a hill, then work on your fitness and strength training, instead of copping out with shoes.

    • @IanTaylorTrekking
      @IanTaylorTrekking  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I respect your opinion. I have made the journey over 45 times and seen so many ankle related issues on the trail over the years and I would only recommend trekking boots with ankle support.

      You could take your mission critical gear with your in the plane either wearing it or in your carry-on luggage. Wear boots, trekking pants, merino top, have sleeping bag & favourite clothing in your carry-on. This way damage is minimised if the duffel is delayed.
