- The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is set to close for the next 18 months as the first major renovation of the building takes place since the facility opened in 1976. Before the museum closes the door on its original form I asked Jason Vansickle, curator of the museum, to take my viewers on one last tour, from the Marmon Wasp... and beyond!

Love that 1951 winner! That car was built up in Crown Point Indiana up near Chicago.
Well done David and great camera work as well Jason. Certainly a special place and so excited for the renovation.
made us wait but it's always worth it! thanks for another video Dave
I am so happy I got to have my first visit right before the remodel!!!
This is amazing! Jason walking around talking the history in his zip up is worth it!
Cool video Dave! Awesome machines on display!!
Love the IMS Museum and really enjoy the videos. My son and I attended the 2016 100th Running of the Indy 500 and spent all the time we could spare in the museum. One small thing, the Johnny Lightning cars are based on the Brabham Indy car (circa 1964) as was the Brawner Hawk that won in 1969. VPJ has a book out about their race cars and they describe the basis of the JL cars being the Brabham. One example, note the typical '60's Brabham front suspension on the VPJ cars. It is not remotely like the Lola's which was "inspired by" (i.e. copied from) the Lotus 38.
Good show David
Awesome video David! Thanks for sharing!.
So cool to see y’all talk about Jim Hall. He used to play golf with my uncle, and was always the nicest guy the few times I met him. He even hooked us up with a pit experience I will never forget on my first trip to Indy.
I still think David land should be the spokesperson for indycar
We need your video on the engine dilemma
Great video,David! I think Jason miss spoke on most the one item, stating that Davy Jones was almost the 1st driver ever to win the 500 and Lemans weeks apart in the same year as A.J. did just that in '67.
Love this video, thank you!!!!!
Love the Garage Guy Chase cameo
I think it’s time for David Land ( with a co host from IMS ) maybe Jason, or Doug Boles to do some You Tube videos ( like 25 minute documentaries) on the yearly races. I’d produce them just like the “Legends of the Brickyard” videos that Donald Davison did in the 90’s. Two guys setting in directors chairs doing a 20-minute recap of one (1) race from a particular year. For gen X, Y, Z and the millennials, I’d start with the 1965 race, and use the same successful format that DD used - they were GREAT and served to introduce a whole new generation of youth to the Indy 500 during the 90’s. It’s time to re start them and educate another generation to “The Greatest Spectacle In Motor Racing”
Thanks, More of this, we eat this stuff up. Keep it comm'in!!
Al Sr's triple crown wins were at Indy, Pocono and Ontario. Not Michigan.
While the IMS Museum is undergoing renovations, two rotating portions of the collection will be on loan to the Savoy Automobile Museum in Georgia. I look forward to seeing some of these cars up close there next year.
Awesome video
David first of all, AJ Foyt is a very big guy and he sat so tall in the car that he had to put up height extensions on his windscreen of the cars you can clearly see in 1980's photos. Also just so you know, Dominos PIZZA sponsorship going away with the team is not entierely true according to Wiki. In a 1980's issue (don't remember the year or month) of Indycar racing mag. (was like a newspaper back then) I vividly remember an interview with Doug Shierson and Tom Monaghan in which they made a pledge, to continue the partnership until they won the Indy 500... that happened in 1990 and that ended Domino's pizza in racing. You never saw Dominos sponser a car again... and that was per the agreement Shierson and Monaghan had.
Pocket change for Penske to foot the whole bill.
The triple crown was Pocono not Michigan back then , Donahue's 72 winner looks like a Lotus 72 knockoff , And Rutherford's Chaparral looks like a Lotus 79 knockoff???
Rossi's Napa car is already gone!
He sucks that’s why.
👍🏎️🏁🇺🇸
That IRL era of has-beens and nonentities is best ignored.
Considering the importance of the Speedway Museum one would think that both you and your host would have had the dignity and respect to wear suits, The Museum is not a branch of Wal-Mart
Nice call
nobody dresses up anymore... esp the millennials. sad but true. hell even when they do they still look like slobs, shirt and tie but the shirt not tucked in...
I’m going to guess your age is north of 60
Quite north actually @@cashkenterprises5584
