    TH-cam has officially become my main source of (meager) income and I've taken it on full-time. You may not notice more uploads but from my perspective I'm hoping you'll notice a rise in overall video quality.
    It took me roughly 120 hours over 10 days (3 normal work weeks) to create this video. So PLEASE, share this video, hit the LIKE button if you enjoyed it and please leave a comment. These factors help out tremendously and would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to all my longtime fans and thank you for watching.

      Excellent work! :) I know how long and time-consuming it can be to edit a video, so kudos to you on producing high quality videos that capture the lore of Destiny; arguably better than the Grimoire has done to date.
      Just out of curiousity, is the lore in this video based on Grimoire excerpts and expanded upon by yourself? If you pieced it all together, you did one hell of a job! I've learnt more about the event of Crota in 15 minutes compared with hours playing the actual game.
      All the best with your TH-cam endeavour and wish you loads of success because its well-deserved!

      Destiny is shit. Your video is shit. Your voice is annoying. The video quality is poor. The storyline for destiny caters to 10 year olds.

Learn how TH-cam works before being an even bigger idiot than you already are by trying to troll him. Sad life you must live to start shit on TH-cam. Destiny would be an improvement for your miserable shit life. Fucking loser.

    This is a definitely a strong slap to the face of those who said Destiny was lacking of story. Maybe it's lacking of a good storytelling (yeah, maybe that's right) but there's something certainly good in its community (thanks for sharing this, TerraMantis), its lore and its gameplay. Good work! Now you should take a rest to recover... before bringing more. :)

      Still lacks a story. It has lore and even that they did bad. Bungie is stupid, or they are really smart, because they knew a lot of people would still buy it and defend it no matter what.

    Hello, TerraMantis. I've known of this video for some time, and I've watched the Moon Ride Along in which you were the guest.
    I finally took the time to view your work, and I want to congratulate you on a fine display of writing and editing.
    The Hive, being straightforwardly evil, have been the least interesting enemy to me, but you have presented the lore of Crota in a most compelling manner.
    You have motivated me to explore Hive and Moon lore with a fresh eye.
    The recognition you have received for this is richly deserved.

      Love you vids Wallen, but as you know, the dark souls community has very theatrical lore vids. And while yours are great, I would love for you to do more theatrical lore video's as well. I sometimes get lost with whats going on in the gameplay on screen I stop listening to you speak, but I love to watch a video with my lore too. I think you could really benefit having a visual representation of what your explaining. Planet destiny is the shit too BTW.

    two small corrections, at the beginning you said the golden age was preceded by the collapse, it's actually succeeded. the other is when your talking about eris you show a warlock, she's actually a hunter. if you look at the cloak she's wearing, it's the same one she gives you if you are a hunter when you complete her quest line. your videos are fucking awesome man, keep up the great work

    This video's quality was through the roof. It shows that you put so much effort into it.
    But Terra, we have a problem. I like these videos so much I've started to crave them. I need more! Seriously, though, your Destiny vids are as awesome as your Souls vids. I hope you have more material for Destiny. I'd love to hear your take on The Vault of Glass and what the Vex are trying to achieve within it. I know you touched on it before, but that just can't compare to a dedicated video like this one :D

    This is an amazing video
    I am really impressed with the depth you managed to distill into the universe of Destiny, and can only regret that Bungie did not manage to convey it themselves.
    Your writing style, and vocabulary is inspiring. The obvious research you did at the periphery of the game and mythos makes this video so much more than a gaming video.

    This is what Bungie needed to do. They should have implanted this mythological lore into the game, people like TerraMantis should have been writers for the game. This video that he has produced gives the game a sense of depth and make you feel like you are pushing the "bigger meaning" along. This makes it evident that we, "the fans", need to come up with these well crafted stories to elevate the overall game feel. The overall lore in Destiny doesn't paint a picture of the past nor the present. I'd like to thank TerraMantis and many others that have tried to build lore into the game externally.

    In terms of gameplay, Destiny is tedious and boring. Had any of the story been in-game, it would have been better. The way you give us the story terra, it's just as interesting as dark souls lore. Great vid despite the game itself lacking

    I feel like Bungie is making a Gurren Lagann like story. The dark (anti-spiral) comes to crush the light (spiral) before it understands its true potential. The Hive uses the moon as a base of operation (much like the anti-spiral). Humans can't live on the surface because the fallen patrol the surface (much like the beast men) and humans are force to live in a secluded city. As long as the final DLC includes a gun that shoots drills I'll be happy!

    • @optimistprime3192
      @optimistprime3192 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have no idea what to say to this, I love your idea that much.
      Hell, make the barrel a drill that fires energy bolts, a hand cannon for dat impact and firepower.
      Name: Spiral Buster/ Spiral Breaker (or something better, I can't think of one currently)
      Description: "If there's a wall in our way, we knock it down. If there isn't a path, we pave one ourselves."
      Has a mod for special armor piercing or multi-enemy-damaging bullets, called "Pierce the Heavens."
      This would make my day :D
      Edit: after seeing the Thorn hand cannon that fires rather large dart-things... yeah shooting drills would be much more awesome than energy bolts :D

    Do we know if Toland is still alive ? It could be epic to meet a Hive-fanatic Warlock in TTK. (Hoping to see the Vex-fanatic Osiris one day)

    • @TerraMantis
      @TerraMantis  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** We don't know, I'm really hoping Toland and Osiris make a show at some point in the franchise. I think it's very likely for Osiris since they've already got a voice actor for him, he reads from a log that your ghost finds when entering a mission. That alone makes me think Osiris will be a more influential character at some point.

    • @MrStainProduction
      @MrStainProduction 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really hope so, Vex are my favorite opponent in the game, so mysterious... We know how much Toland was fascinated by the Hive, leading him to madness. But Osiris seems less obsessed by the Vex, more like curious. And he is most likely alive imo, the Disciple casts doubt.

      DANTVSVERGIL
      We know that he is not dead. Does that mean he is alive ? I don't think so. Warlocks are known to drive themself into madness, archiving knowledge more powerful than death itself. Maybe he is in a far superior state than alive or dead, in some sort of a stasis. Osiris specifically studied Vex, time travelers. Maybe he discovered their secret?

    • @DANTVSVERGIL
      @DANTVSVERGIL 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      *****
      Who knows all that we know of Osiris is that he's not "dead". Luke Smith was in an "interview" where he was asked a bunch of questions and he had too answer them quickly and one of the questions was "Is Osiris dead?" and his answer was "No" and we also know that the Titan that was found dead outside the Temple of Crota was not apart of Eris' fireteam.

    Absolutely mind blowing story of Crota through the lore of Destiny. You can tell they really paid attention to the Grimoire, Eris' ramblings, the story laid out in the quests. Beautifully edited with excellent music to boot.

    @primroan5354 10 ปีที่แล้ว +60

    This is where games need to be to tell their stories. Destiny as a game is flawed. I've heard stories about infighting among the staff Bungie, and there is conclusive evidence to state that _something_ happened. Joe Staten left the company, and he's been there since before Halo: Combat Evolved. He's the one who likely wrote all the lore, and with him gone, they had to cobble bits and pieces together. That's why there is inconsistencies in the lore and the grimoire. Marty O'Donnell was fired, for unknown reasons. The composer who has been there as long as Staten. I don't know what happened, but it saddens me that it likely had a negative impact on the game.
    However, the storytelling in this game is in the right direction. It's been made abundantly clear to me that people don't understand the way games are meant to tell their stories. The best way for a game to tell a story, is to not tell it at all. A game is not a movie, or a book. It is not a passive experience. The player should go about gathering the story themselves. Not every game has to play by these rules. But in my opinion, by not doing it, they only cheapen themselves by copying the formulas from other mediums. Mediums which do it *far* better than games.
    That Crota, what he means to the Hive, and the way in which the players go about destroying him, is so interesting and complex only speaks to the power of storytelling only games can achieve. No other medium could tell a story like that, in this way. Flawed though it may be, Destiny understands how stories in games should be told.

      People seem to have real trouble distinguishing story from narrative.
      I also think Bungie over-estimated how used their companion app would be. The figured people use smart phones constantly now, so they'll have them right there to interact with the game at all times, get a grimoire card in-game and instantly look it up and read about it. Really, they should have put all that in the game. Let you pull up a menu, read the lore.

      Most people I know never even bothered to download their app, or if they did didn't think it had much use. You can't really do very much from it, aside from look at what vendors are selling, and what the weekly activities are. Out of the 5 people I usually play with, I'm the only one who's actually read through the grimoire cards because I find it interesting, I've never heard anyone else say "hey, I just unlocked a grimoire card, hold up a sec while I load it up and check it out".

  • @DeathsPit00

    Very well made, but there is no evidence to suggest that Toland, The Shattered was among Eris's raid group and there is abundant evidence in the Grimiore that he is still alive and Eris Morn knows his location, but thus far has refused to disclose it despite the Vanguard(excluding Ikora Rey)and the Speaker's insistence that she do so, and as we still do not know the Speaker, or the Travelers true intentions who can blam her. I for one, look forward to the release of a Destiny game in which Toland, The Shattered finally makes an Appearance. We may even see this or a lead up to this in the Wolves Den dlc. I tend to believe that if he's hiding from the city, but still helping from afar than he is hiding out in the Reef and yes, the Queen most definitely knows that he is there and simply lets him be and lets him do his experiments in Hive Arcana to learn more from him. Good vid. This is my take on Toland. Cheers.

    • @TerraMantis
      @TerraMantis  10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There is most definitely 100% no doubt that Toland was part of the group that went with Eriana and Eris. Also, I never said Toland was dead, I said he was never seen again. I like to think Toland is still alive as well, same with Osiris, the original Warlock badass who fought and studied the Hive and then disappeared too.

    • @juliobudhai4940

    • @WinterRoseYT
      @WinterRoseYT 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stop fighting! The grimoire cards suggest that Toland WAS in the fireteam, but they also suggest that he is still alive. It would only make sense that Toland survived if Eris did. He knew much more than she.

    • @DeathsPit00
      @DeathsPit00 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ERIS, ingame, is the only source that says that she was the only survivor(Grimoire says that she refuses to disclose his location instead), The Grimoire, however points in a different direction, that being that Toland is in hiding. Now go crawl in your hole Troll.

      I've had a chance to read more since commenting and it does seem like he was there leading the Fireteam along with Osiris due to their advanced knowledge of Hive Arcana. I do believe them both to be alive and at least one of them to be in the Reef. I really do want them to make an appearance.

    Why does Crota glow in the game but doesn't in the trailer?

    • @TerraMantis
      @TerraMantis  10 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Good question.
      This is just speculation but I have one of two possible answers.
      1. That's not Crota in the trailer (it's totally Crota though)
      2. The Knight in the trailer is in the Hellmouth on the Moon, perhaps he maintains a different appearance when he becomes physical in the real world. When we encounter him in the Crota's End raid, we're inside his world-mind. It could be that's just how he projects his appearance there.

    • @TheRedProductions
      @TheRedProductions 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      TerraMantis Thanks! Also, what do you think Crota's Oversoul actually is? Since we never find out what that thing could possibly be, is it a star? Crota's soul manifested? Let me know if you have any theories on it, thanks!

    • @TerraMantis
      @TerraMantis  10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Tahu Master Of Fire I'm pretty sure there's a grimoire card that says what the oversoul is to some degree. I don't remember the exact card but I'm pretty sure it's referred to as the husk of a dead star. This seems very interesting when considering some of the aspects of The Darkness grimoire cards which convey various guardians' theories about what The Darkness actually is (beside a plot device of course). One theory from a specific guardian states The Darkness is, in so many words, a blackhole that became sentient. In other words, a being that came into existence after a star collapsed. This seems fitting to me considering darkness cannot exist without light or vice-versa, seems only right that The Darkness be born of Light in some manner. It would also make sense then that The Hive, advocates of Darkness, would draw some type of power from the husk of a dead star which is the ultimate absence of light.
