Hi you may have seen my comment in your previous Call Me By Fire video, but to answer your questions:
1. Yes CMBF is mainly for male celebrities over 30, but there are always a few younger contestants in their twenties too.
2. Akira is a member of the all-male J-Pop groups Exile and Exile The Second, and in this show he's mainly known for his incredible dance skills. Huang Xiao is also a very renowned and well-respected dancer in the Chinese dancing community (You can watch Huang Xiao dance in this legendary performance from the second round "The King and the Beggar" by Hua Chenyu th-cam.com/video/XIzaDRbYNTY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jOMTzK6qlYbKcjby). A very funny moment from the behind the scenes of this stage was that team leader You Zhangjing, a Malaysian, not only had to teach his two Japanese teammates the Chinese lyrics, but he also had to teach Huang Xiao, a Chinese person, how to pronounce certain words correctly.
3. Yes the unique part about CMBF is that it's not just about being the best singer on the show. While yes it's best that you have good singers on the team, it's also highly encouraged to have a variety of skills such as acting, rapping and dancing (+ being able to play musical instruments), which makes actors, dancers and rappers valuable resources since most of the cast are purely singers. This opens the doors for more unique and varied performances. For example, with good actors your team can pull off a musical stage (Shamelessly plugging my favourite performance from CMBF S4 th-cam.com/video/KGK9pOrLaGY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UJsaWccRUaJWzqzp) or dancers like in You Zhangjing's team you can choreograph a dance break. CMBF is a popularity voting show, the more your performance stands out the more votes you get.
4. The leaders are picked by popularity votes at the start of the show and then as the rounds go on, the lower ranked teams during live audience voting may be dissolved and the members end up joining other teams. Usually team formation is done by the team leaders (with input from the team members) by picking from the non-leader contestants in a round robin manner. The picked contestant, if chosen by multiple leaders, can reverse-choose which team he wants to join. The teams don't directly impact voting and popularity rankings, but of course having more popular team members will get you more votes from the live audience).
5. Tbh I'm also not very clear on how the voting for CMBF works, but I think it has to do with voting on the MangoTV application that only Chinese people can vote on (I might be completely wrong don't quote me on that). But either way after every round of performances (there are a total of 5 performance rounds + Intro stage + the Finale), they will release an online vote ranking, and the lowest ranked contestant from the bottom two teams from the performance round live audience voting will be eliminated. The top 17 contestants in the finale will "debut" but from what I know they don't do much with the "debut group" so idk what they're doing.
