Just something quick to clarify! The Mirena IUD is hormone based. I have it and love it personally, but it is important to know that it is hormonal. The copper IUD is the only non-hormonal IUD, but there are several different IUDs with different levels of hormones depending on what you need

Yes, I have a copper non-hormonal IUD and I do have a regular period! It took a few months to get there and the insertion was painful, but there’s a lot of discourse around making IUD insertion a procedure that involves anesthesia now. Made it through without it though 👍🏻

I have a copper IUD!!! I had the marina but I had some bad side effects so swapped to the copper one after I had my second child And it is AMAZING, it totally no hormonal unlike the marina and the insertion procedure is uncomfortable but no different from a Pap smear,
I still get my period and ovulate which is normal on the copper IUD and it can stay in for 10 years!!! I love it!!!! ♥️

I hear a lot of people talking about the negatives of the pill and it came up in this video too but want to say not to be scared of it if that's what you're personally leaning towards. Just remember that every body is different and the pill won't work for everyone, but it does work for a lot of people too. I was on it from 17-22 and went on it again at 25 and (other then the first few months as my body adjusted) I have only ever had positive experiences with it. Always look into your options, try different things and discover what works best for you just like all these lovely woman in this video have done.

Inner Chi For Her by Sisle (owner used to be with NewWays) really helped me. I still take it daily. It's just a small casual, read the ingredients on their site, it is a natural hormone balancer as well as other things. After a few months on it, I ran out and thought "I'll try going without because I'm not noticing it do anything now" boy did I regret that..my mood was slightly worse my acne was INTESE and I didn't have white heads that can be popped but I had blind pimples which are basically extremely painful mounds of blood vessels on your face that sit there for sometimes weeks. Recently I ran out of my 'collection' again and my sides actually would every now and then sting even after I had finished my cycle. Also, for period pain, try going taking cramp bark and magnesium in capsule form if possible and a good iron supplement- little to no sugar etc. The health-food store worker I spoke to last week said most women are iron defiant. It really makes the pain and flow worse.

these videos are so great!! I'm 19 and have never had any desire to go on the pill but when I was 16, my gynaecologist was literally pressuring me to go on it, and I said no so many times until she finally got the message. it was not a good experience but that's when I started doing my own research because health classes at school never really went depth about all these things, at least at my school and since then, realised its just better to take natural precautions because id rather take care of my body in the most natural way possible. but these videos can give such good insight to so many people who are questioning these things and have no one to ask, so thank you!!

Just wanted to mention my experience with the Nuvaring. I noticed it wasn't in the video, and I know it's a really common birth control choice.
    How it works:
The Nuvaring is a plastic ring (a soft, flexible plastic) that is inserted into the vaginal canal. I leave it in for 3 weeks, and then I remove it for 1 week to have a period. Afterwards, I get a new ring and repeat the process. I like how it is pretty low maintenance, but it's still something I can control "taking" (ex. I can remove it at any time if it causes issues). I've been using the ring for 4 months now, and so far I've had no major issues.
    Perks:
I get yeast infections here and there, and I was worried the ring could cause infections, but I haven't had any. Also, it has shortened the length of my periods. My periods used to be about a week, so having a period for only 4 days is a perk for me. Another perk is that you can remove the ring for up to 2-3 hours for romantic moments. You can also leave it in during those moments. Sometimes if I leave it in, my husband or I can feel it. But most of the time, I can leave it in and have no interference.
    Concerns:
I will say, there are a couple of downsides to the ring in my opinion. The first downside is how challenging it can be to get in at times. Folding the ring up and getting it to slide in can take a bit of time. Once it is in though, it causes no challenges. The other complication for me with the ring is a lower desire to be with my husband romantically. I think this is common with many birth controls, since birth controls stop ovulation. Still, it's an important note as far as I'm concerned.
If anyone has questions, I'm happy to answer. I hope this helps someone! I know when I was researching birth control options, I was really nervous. But I think the ring was and is the best for me (at this point in my life, at least). 😊

FACT CHECK: Mindy had a "mirena IUD" which is a hormonal IUD (not no hormones like she said)- this is why her periods stopped! On a non homonal (copper) IUD women get periods as it does not stop ovulation (the mucus is just thickened so sperm cant swim) she right that they can get heavier and longer tho!
LOVE the idea of this video but quite a lot of incorrect information. Maybe do fact checks- then go to individuals to talk about personal experience instead of have them do the facts :)

My own 2 cents here are that hormonal interventions can be great for people who are already experiencing hormonal imbalance. My cycle is extremely irregular and I have a host of other hormone-based issues, so the pill helped get things into a more controlled state. Yes, they were synthetic hormones, and yes, the periods were chemical bleeds- but that’s better than no bleed at all for 2 months. They did cause a bit of weight gain for me, but overall had no other significant side effects and I was super relieved to be able to tell when my periods were going to come. It also helped control my acne, and I liked the pill because it was a less long-term choice than, say, Nexplanon. That is, there are other options for hormonal birth control pills if the one you’re using isn’t working for you, etc. etc.

Just throwing out my own experience here, I started brith control when I was in high school to regulate my period. I didn’t want to do anything too invasive at a young age, and am absolutely terrified of needles. So I started taking the pill, in 3 month cycles where I would have a period every three months. However for the first two years I skipped the period days and went straight back into the hormonal pills in what is essentially a continuous cycle. I have started taking the period pills due to a little spotting that occurred. And haven’t had any side effects from taking the pill and by far taking the pill once a day is better than the stress my period caused before I started.

Amazing video! So happy you are openly talking about this topic on your channel. One small correction, the implant does not stop your production of eggs. Females are actually born with all the eggs she will ever have! What the implant is actually doing is stopping the release of these eggs. Just a small correction, but could be important for those who feel freaked out by it!

Love that y'all are sharing personal experiences on these!! I think it's good that you all noted some types work better than others for different people. I personally had a bad experience on a high dose estrogen pill so I now use the Kyleena IUD and love it (I also have a video on it on my channel if anyone wants to know more). I'd say it's also important to note if an estrogen heavy birth control doesn't work for you, a progestin type might work better (like the minipill or depo provera), so don't feel defeated if you try one thing and it isn't working out for you!!
    Sincerely,

Just wanted to shine some light on a good pill experience. I have been on the pill for 4 years now and had some changes in mood in the first month but other than that it’s been great. I know everyone can be different but I think the main bonus for me is I control when I’m having a period to fit around my schedule (going on holiday etc) and my periods are only 3 days long when before they were up to 8 days long. For someone who’s periods were very irregular and all over the place, the pill has been a life saver so I’d say try it for a good 6 months and if it really isn’t for you then change! Also a tip for when you are taking it … I just set an alarm on my phone everyday to remember to take it … a simple solution but haven’t missed a pill in years!

Love that you guys made this video! I have the kyleena IUD (which is lower hormone than Mirena and is smaller) because I was so hesitant on something hormonal and was scared of the IUD for a while. But after a lot of research felt like it was the best for me, as opposed to the pain associated with the copper one. My only symptoms were cramping in the beginning, and some mild hormonal acne. Keep making videos like this!! I think it is so helpful to young women.
