Squish the barbs on your flies so it’s easier to unhook the fish. Most of the time the length of the rod will keep you hooked up. I use barbless with just a 7’ 7wt and a 9’6” 5wt fly rods and have little trouble keeping a fish on, if you get a good hookup it will stay on.
