After going back and playing through the original Crisis Core three years ago, Max is back once again to play through the new version, called Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion! Will it be an improvement over the original, or will it be another barrel of dumbapples?

I find it hilarious how Zack is there slaughtering all the wutai runs into yuffie and is like "what are you doing here" and yuffie be like "I live here" zack then proceeds to plays with her a little bit sends her on her way and continue slaughtering her family

Its a military base. Children living there would be extremely out of the ordinary. Which is why hes confused to see her there. Theyre attacking a Fort, not a village.

Zack is there to invade on behalf of the company. Lmao "theyre at war." As if that changes anything about the fact that Zack is there to slaughter Wutai into corporate domination and his stopping to play with a kid is absurd narrative dissonance
I like the wacky tech in this. We have flip phones, old ass CRTs, and hyper realistic holodeck ass rooms that somehow don't care if you jump a mile in the air despite the room not being anywhere near that big.
I've done a little bit of comparing of the early game of the original CC to this one, and can confirm there are loads of little changes. One of the most striking is that after returning to Midgar from Wutai, the scene where Zack is musing about how Angeal would definitely never desert because of his SOLDIER honor. The scene in question is present in both games, but in the original version it is just a black screen with a text bar and no voice-over.
DMW not interrupting gameplay is the best change.
So they have more money now then they did before you did all that cause they got a bigger budget you’re corny asf
I can't get over the fact that Zack punches the shit out of Angeal, questions if he's living in reality, then gets tripped by a psychotic evangelical boy-band leader who then starts quoting Shakespeare at him while Zack tells him repeatedly to shut up.

Zack is extremely relatable which is why he quickly replaced Cloud as my favorite protagonist when CC original came out.
My first time playing Crisis Core ever! My experience so far has been great and man I absolutely love this game. Glad that it got a rerelease/ remake so more people like myself included got a chance to play this gem.
@@gamerforlife3946 I sorry you feel that way it was just my honest opinion I know the overall story is definitely not something that wins any awards, but like I said this was my first time ever trying it out and I really am enjoying my first time with it. Gameplay feels great and I am having the most fun with it.
@@gamerforlife3946 I agree the story unfortunately was not improved on and the new voice actors didn't help make the story any better. Genesis is a crappy character really no one can argue with that. I have not played the psp game to make gameplay comparisons, but I have heard many stories of it being really bad. If you say it sucks and you feel no improvements were made then I believe you if you did tried out this Remastered. Doesn't change my opinion that I still think this game is fun and I am not biggest gamer in the world to have a definitive credit on that opinion I just genuinely have a casual gamer opinion. Have a nice day and enjoy playing a game you find really great that is worth your time.

@@gamerforlife3946 I didn't say to ignore the negatives, they exist in every game... hell they exist in everything. I'm saying enjoy the fact that we got a remaster that has some more polish and updated mechanics. Definitely list things that you wish could have been implemented better about anything you enjoy, but don't let those things cause you hate it over the positives.
I can't say that I see a difference with the story or characters at all from what I remember from the original. That just means it is "dated" not bad. But I'm just old fashioned like that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I believe Dirge of Cerberus was a much larger notch on the downward spiral of FF7 then Crisis Core ever was... to far of a departure from mechanics.
@@gamerforlife3946 And a lot of people still love it just the same anyway, and there's nothing wrong with that. Game is very dated and as Max said, does kinda suck, gameplay was horrible (it's decent to good now in reunion but OG was HORRID), dialogue is cringe inducing and stilted, some of the writing and plot beats are scuffed af, and now in the remaster, Zack sounds kind of off.
But despite all that, it has it's moments. Despite the stiff dialogue, some cutscenes still hit right imo. Despite all that, MANY people, just as Max has also said, remember it fondly. There's obvious nostalgia there but I think there also was something else there, a diamond in the rough. At it's core I don't think Crisis Core was appalling by any means, it felt like they knew what the themes were and what they wanted to tell, they just fell flat on the execution Zack is still a fully realized character and his main plot beats with Cloud, Aerith, and ofc the ending are sweet and hit hard imo (despite some forced awkwardness.) Hell I even love some of the characters and their chemistry with other characters on screen like Tseng, or the silly little emails by Kunsel, or Cissnei and Zack. This is not the case with Dirge of Cerberus for example, where to this day I still have no fcking idea what they were even trying to do with that story lol.

I like how they just ported over the Buster sword from the Remake that has all the wear and tear on it, but still keep Angeal's lines about not wanting to use it to prevent that from happening.

@@gozogo1233 even if that's the case there's no way it should look as beat up as it does in Remake at this point in CC. Especially since in the CGI scenes the sword doesn't have a scratch on it.
Honestly they should of kept it with the gold trim until a part in the story and change it to this. Like zack used it to much and cracked it and had to fix it.
@wood10 he's been using that sword for years though since before he even got into soldier, so I don't know why you think it wouldn't be that beat up. Especially since he said he's cheap it would make sense that it looks super beat up cuz he's not doing too much to maintain it.

If Dissidia 012 is the greatest blessing Nomura gave the PSP, and The 3rd Birthday is the epitome of Nomura’s worse actions against humanity, then Crisis Core is right down in the middle as the most Nomura game to be created that era. All the jank, all the charm.

Crisis Core is pretty unique in that its a garbage-ass game but Zach and the ending more or less completely saved it. If only Dirge of Cerberus would have turned out like that.

This being my first chance to play crisis core I actually enjoyed the gameplay a lot. Something satisfying about how absolutley broken OP zack can get here lol. Like if my file was cannon there is 0 way zack was killed by shinra. He clearly just ascended to godhood off his materia build

Enjoying the playthrough so far man, I'll keep coming back to this as I continue through the game myself. I will say, loving the remaster, but there are a few things I wish they would do to further improve the game. Firstly I wish the limit breaks would take place in the same room/environment that you are in as it's pretty immersion breaking, and also as has been noted on the reddit, his walking needs to be fixed to stop immediately when you stop the analogue. It works fine when running, but when walking like when you're trying to get to the save point but Zack walks a few steps forward or w/e lol it's kind of irritating, a little nostalgic too though if I'm being honest.
I wish I could play the new ff7’s I’ve only played the main story remake, but this’ll do 💯💯 Let’s go Max!

What they should do is make him an NPC that has his own quest line. He could have a totally different appearance until the end of his quests in which he would put on his glasses, let his hair down, pulls out a Buster Sword of his own, and challenges you to a battle with a combat rendition of his theme playing.

The Biggest part of this game to me om its release was the fact we didn't have any other game where we got to see the FF7 world in this way and ome of the few times ever that we got to hear voice acting outside of Kingdom Hearts
It was such a huge deal to me to hear Sephiroth speaking and just being there as a normal character. I always wanted a game about Sephiroth leading up to nibelhiem

Love seeing these remasters along with the 7 remake trilogy, but honestly, the one I can't wait to get access to is Before Crisis (the JP exclusive phone game involving the Turks) finally playable whenever "Ever Crisis" comes out.
I played the fan made one with the original phone sprites but the idea of all the Turks getting Remake style battle models as well as the story looking like classic FF7 would be incredible.
People take much for granted these days. As I recall even so “late,” as FFX the has “movable lips and real voice acting!” As standout features on the back of the box.

the most interesting part of this playthrough is max learning for the first time how possessive plurals that end in s are pronounced and he dislikes it so much that he claims it's wrong.
The dialogue in these old games is SO corny but I kind of love it.

My crisis core came in the mail yesterday. And MAAAAAAAAN the combat feels so much smoother like you can combo your magic and special movies after doing a normal combo. And i love the fact we can use DMW at our own will after a getting a matching set.

man, I hope his voice changes or at least the inflection is different cause I hate it right now. idk why, it's like someone who has a stereotypical nerd voice/inflection that is trying really hard to hide it but it comes out every now and then.
Seeing CC Reunion in its full glory is like seeing a very very very good straight-to-video Disney sequel/prequel (think Lion King II etc). I'm only half hour in this playthrough and loving it already 🤣 can't wait to play it myself

Sonic Frontiers is one of the best Sonic Games, this is a remake of a psp game from well over a decade ago, and it feels great, it's the original game, but so much smoother and easier to play and the original was already one of the best PSP Games. Now it's a great game on every platform.

@@Wickerrman with so many people fail to realize is that the voice director is the one who is the blame for these awkward deliveries in putting situations. Get so old seeing people say the voice actor didn't do a good job when they're only responsible for 30% of the actual creative direction if not less. The vast majority of the blame always lies with the director who's in charge of The Voice direction. The voice actors simply have to do what they're told even if they don't think it sounds good.
@@StrongerFist30 I do agree with that, the voice actor naturally did everything they could for the role given the advice given to them. The person in the wrong is the one choosing the wrong voice actor (should've keept Rick Gomez and the old cast) and style of line delivery.

Tseng still looks younger in Crisis Core than he does when Aerith was little. I’m more confused now about how old he is supposed to be than when all the characters were blocky PS1 models.
They mistakenly used his older model in the flashback scene. He was supposed to be around 15 at the time, but for some reason his younger model didn't end up being used for the scene.

Yes! Finally! I've been waiting for this! I refused to watch any playthrough of this game until you played it, Max. I'm so happy that I finally get watch this.
+1, FF7 Remake's hard mode is the best hard mode I've ever played. It actually brings out the strengths and interesting parts of the combat system (which is amazing).
I actually _don't_ like that items are completely useless in it, but I don't know how you would capture the amazingness any other way.
something to note as well: the element blades (fire blade, blizzard blade,thunder blade) actually costed MP instead of AP although it's listed as a yellow materia which should've been an AP materia. good to know it's rectified in the remake

I'm really enjoying the game so far the extra missions overpower you like crazy though. The Yuffie side missions are fully voice acted now the guilt trip is real, She's a mischievous little goblin.
I dont get the problem with Zack's new VA, sure it's not Rick Gomez, but my appreciation and love for Zack's character and personality just makes it so easy to look past the flaws
There literally is no problem with it. It's all just a bunch of ignorant little children, knee-jerking their butt-hurt little asses out of shape over some elitist horseshit irrelevant, near-invisible little nitpicks with no good reason behind it. As fans of these kinds of games are known for.
I honestly haven't had any issues with the new voice for Zack, or any of the new voices

if you have played the OG CC so many times their voices just stuck on you so the changes really sounds weird.. nothing wrong with the new VA's but it's really weird to see these characters in different voices.. much like Optimus Prime and Batman with different VA's than what we are used to..
i thought the voices were always terrible. that said i find the entire game to be extremely cheap and autistic. ill wait for remake pt 2. crisis core is a bad story.

While the story is still...not very good, it's insane how much more fun Reunion is compared to the OG Crisis Core. The gameplay is so much smoother, faster, the UI is better, even the addition of a run button helps with missions a ton.
I think the story is pretty good so far, not amazing but I wouldn’t say it’s bad. It’s the writing, dialogue, & line delivery that desperately needed revisions to bring it up to a more modern sensibility. It’s my first time playing this title, and I would’ve gladly paid $70 for this game if they went that extra mile to rewrite the dialogue to make it a bit less cheesy.. overall still a fun game! Though if I didn’t love the FF7 world as much as I do, I probably wouldn’t be able to get through some of this over dramatic cheesy dialogue lol

But it’s crazy though, the start of the video where he talks about a normal guy with a giant sword in a weird world in like the army, in solider ❤

@@REChronic54 Eh, I think a majority of the VAs are pretty good. Pierce as Zack is the only one that's a little iffy, but he gets better as the game goes on. Same with Hoechlin as Sephiroth.
If you want to do the little side missions but hate the multiple random fights, you can skip most of them if you run right against the edges of the map until you get to the final dungeon fight.

Finally I can watch Max play this one, I managed to play it on Switch for the first time and Oh man I loved it.
For those wondering how it runs on Switch, I can say that it runs amazingly, solid 30 fps, not even a single frame drop from start to finish, either docked or portable, it's responsive, it's fun, and one of the best games I've played this year. Cosigning this. Bought it on switch the other day, just under 3 hours in and it is shockingly consistent. If you want a simple action game based in a cool world like Final Fantasy give this a purchase. Thoroughly enjoying it so far
Can also confirm that it runs well on the Switch and I actually finished the game yesterday! Planning on going back to do more side missions and leveling up my materia after getting rid of my tears. 😭
@@EarthJen I finished it on Hard, and I tell you, a lot of bosses are complete HELL on Hard mode, unless you have an OP materia built.
@@fuegosonic93 I was on hard mode for most of the game up until the last chapter, so I can relate. My Hell Blizzaga and Hell Firaga materia helped me out a bit, but yep, there's still room for improvement.
I will say their new voice actor feels a little off putting. It doesn't have that same cool, laid back, naive tone that we're used to. It definitely feels like a kid in his teenage years. It is what it is, but not something I'd prefer.
