I’ve never played a Final Fantasy game. Is this a good starting point?
My honest answer, this game is not a direct picture of what "final fantasy" is. this game is a major prequel to the original Final Fantasy 7. So the story and themes introduced in this will not hit or land as hard as they should if you never played Final Fantasy 7 before. I highly recommend you play FF7 either before or after this game then FF7 Remake.
I can't be bothered to play a JRPG in hard mode, is never worth it, everything is just bullet sponge for the sake of it and they do double damage to you, is not even if you are a god gamer, I hate grinding for the sake of not getting one shot with specials

Honestly, I really appreciate tips like this, especially for new games coming out. While it can be nice to jump right in and learn things on your own, sometimes it's nice to be told "hey, don't do this until this time because of these reasons."

I use R2 to dodge in the game because it reminds me of Nier Automata. So my left and right is actually for items usage.

Lol chapter 4 you got this! Unfortunately due to the dumb leveling system of DMW needing to hit 777s to level up. It may take some time. There is an invisible XP counter which increases its chances. But it's so odd
I made to level 65 before chapter 4. There is an enemy in one of yuffie's late missions that give quite a bit of xp so it will throw your levels into overdrive. I haven't played crisis core for about 10 years. It's amazing how much I recall.
im in the early chapters and things are so fricking easy. hearing u say it getting "to long/hard" sorta hypes me now. bcs problem with all those games is that they are WAY to easy.
making it myself hard rn by doing way to high side quests for me. i dont rly think it will get much harder tbh. im already way to op....
A tip I would add is to have a save for each chapter clear in case you want to restart a chapter for a missed trophy since there is no chapter select unlike FF7R. I’m having to replay the story a second time right after finishing because I never triggered the perfume mini-game in chap 4. It’s the last bit I need for platinum.
That’s one of the most important side quests!

Another great tip to enjoy the game, switch to Japanese audio, unless you want the cheesy cringe English voice acting.
Its not the voice actors fault though, the dialogue they were given to work with was abysmal.
What happened with your CH bro, game been out for months i finally playing it, having alot of fun but i cant find any video on crisis i cant find things on materia fuse setup on boss fights or anything quite a bit shocking i thought when i type best materia fuse on youtube your video should of been first 5 and i cant find any, hope to find your vidoes on the next Final Fantasy 7 game

Tip on Missions it's worthwhile to do some of them and turning in the Stones to the R&D Materia fella to get a bunch of Materia as well as completing an Achievement saving his department from being dismantled.
There is a bug in Hard mode that some monsters are does not become immune to gravity/graviga so there is a part where i purposely switched to hard mode instead to get an easier boss, im specifically talking about that double tonberry king boss fight.
Also what I noticed about yellow materia:
After getting the buster sword you can use the yellow materia right after battle stancing and it will count as if you did it as a combo-finisher
Even do more dmg as usual - especially when max dmg isn‘t capped to 9.999
I only had issues on hard difficulty on first playthrough when trying to do missions I shouldnt be doing. And even then, all I did was play avoiding random battles and go ham on the main targets and pick up the chests. Was OP by chap 4, but had to lower difficulty to normal to win against minerva.

Is there a chapter select for hardmode like in final fantasy 7 remake?
While not recommended as you want to fight to level up.
If you have to replay the same mission's over and over again, you can skip most regular enemy mobs by sticking as close to the edge of the path at possible.
A trick I picked up in the original game and they never patched it apparently.
If you move close enough to the edge of the path's from the map, no enemy's will spawn.
So you can make a break for the final enemy's of the mission (does not work for the really high end missions, but it makes a lot of the tedious farming missions a lot faster)
Your videos helped me out a ton with FF7 Remake pt. 1, not just for strategy but really with understanding the combat mechanics. This one is no different. These videos should be required watching for anyone who is going to play these games. Great job!

Another tip I've not seen anyone talk about - HUG WALLS TO AVOID RANDOM ENCOUNTERS - Great for chest farming in missions :)

Were do you get that one that be nice to do some mission will exploring for the genshi armor since they are in chest and some enemies I don't remember were you get it from the PSP

An SP tip: Don’t waste time in easier battles, you want to gain as much SP as possible for later on. You’re going to need as much as possible to become the limit breaker beast Zack really is, believe me. I haven’t seen the multiplier on Gil and SP on consecutive kills in this version, they may have removed that aspect because everything is slightly faster and more powerful than before. Even the drones don’t doe in one hit anymore. They did amazing.

Tbh It's such a noticeable game mechanic I omitted it because I feel like everyone will figure this out from the first fight and behemoth. I elected to go with more obscure and possibly missable tips
Switching target with left or right is a good tip! I hope to get a PS5 soon and this game and FF7 Remake Intergrade among a bunch of other games. I played the original PSP version to completion when I had the PSP. But it is going to be good to replay the game after so long. I like how this version looks so good and has Japanese voice option included.

Regarding the difficulty spikes around chapter 9 on Hard setting, how “hard” is this “hard?”
I’m not a souls born player but just beat LoP and managed, despite some angry yells and name calling.
Is anything in the CH 9 “HARD” setting difficulty spike on par with LoP?
Or anyone for that matter that’s played both … what’s your take.
Considering doing this on Hard for first time playthrough but don’t want to throw a controller through my TV.

How do you switch sets during battle to use another materia set while fighting?
I don't believe its possible to switch during battle. its mostly to be done in the menu if you died and need to switch. That would be too broken if you could switch in battle. Maybe balanced if they did a timer on it.

I think the game would have been better if your able to switch in battle that means you could use more materia = more special attacks in battle, and also take away that annoying voice battle start get ready blah blah blah, that and switching materia should be like I guess reloading a weapon, so it would take a short moment to switch out in that time you have to get the funk out of dodge lol.
Already with these 2 things I made the game better. I get Ninja gaiden vibes when playing, its not as good as Ninja gaiden razors edge action wise, but it is fun to play still.
Best to move dodge off of "x" or "square" because rolling when trying to do bister sword stance is annoying
its funny in the clip, level 26-27 with the buster sword while I am 90 ... materia maxed (2 builds actually), minerva dead and still only on chapter 5. I should probably do hard mode but I play FF for story mostly ... except I got lost in the sauce on this one.
I really wish the Buster Sword stance could be remapped...
Even now, after reaching > 50% proficiency, I still accidentally roll instead of entering the stance.
It's a brand new feature anyway, why not make it remappable to the unused D-pad? Who thought it was a good idea to have the ONLY option be simultaneously pressing 2 buttons that are both heavily used??

I know people have played previous games and know about the basics but can you make combat videos for amateur. I have no idea how to deal damage even after watching this. The first boss ifrit kicked my arse.
Everyone who says this game is easy it’s because you’re cheesing it with fusion and costly punch doing 99,999 on everything. It totally breaks the game and people need to realize this

I still say that the "Iron Blade" in FF7 Remake should have been the standard "SOLDIER Sword"
with materia fusion hardmode is so easy. I first tried every boss and killed them in a few magic shots. You can simply up your hp to 99999 same with your damage

They probably scaled the late game bosses because most people would probably have costly punch doing 99k damage

Doing the side missions makes the main story a joke, even in hard mode. You can beat Minerva as early as chapter 3...or is it 4?
I played the game today, didn't enjoy it much, felt stiff and didn't care for the cutscenes, but I see I need to give it another chance!

the missions r also always worh completeing every phase the games kinda built for u to unlock ones as u go but if u do them every other chapter ull def be strong enough on hard mode

You’re supposed to have all your stat breaks maxed and powerful Materia fused for Hard Mode.
Cool graphics upgrade, everything seems great, minus the greedy price scheme for a repainted old game.

I had to switch my X and O buttons out to match the FF7 Remake control settings. Just felt weird to dodge with X. Now it plays so much better for me.
I don’t really care for the target controls because all you have to do is dodge and point your analog to the desired target
Not even that. Dodge and cast. Ut will auto target and the enemy is usually clumped because they chased you

Yes, I am playing on hard mode and it has a really weird difficulty spike around chapter 9. There is a tough dps check and I wasn't sure I would make it, but I managed to pull it off by carefully timing heavy stance and exploder blade. Nothing in the game leading up to this prepares you for it. There's also one particular mission rated 6 stars that is *way* harder than it should be. Somewhere in chapter 10, tons of higher-level missions unlock and that's where you can get all the really overpowered materia and accessories. Clearing a lot of missions also leads to a huge boost in your level.
Yea, you can actually reach the 10 missions will all the best gear. Really early in the game. I believe chapter 3? But they are manageable in chapter 4. Due to being able to obtain 2 more accessories slots then. So, after doing those missions. Everything else was a cake walk. Granted, I've played the game several before on the PSP. Reunion is so much easier in several ways. But also, it was a struggle getting up to those points, in this version.

"fights go on for thirty mins" wow well clearly you didn't beat all the side content or particularly my favorite little challenge/training mission "1000 Shinra troops" this took me four hours to beat back on my psp i have an incredibly fond memory of the experience and its about 70% of the reason i preordered the game so heck yeah bring on the pain train
