I've done a lot of "river table" with resin, Can I suggest you something ? You should sand the face of the lake (the "seethrough" part) completely flat and sand it all the way up to 1000 grit, after that a small polish will make it look like perfect glass.
The rest is awesome !!! Really the kind of diorama I prefer !
Do you go by 200's? Like 200 400 600 800 1k? Ok to skip 4 and 8 maybe?
That would look great for a completely still lake, but in reality water does not normally look like that unless it's an exceptionally still day.
In the previous video, they spent some time adding waves and texture to the surface, so I assume they didn't want that kind of look.

@@asafoetidajones8181 When sanding, you begin let's say 120, you never go higher than 50%, so 120, 180, 300, 400, 600, 1000
If you go up too fast, you won't be able to remove the previous sanding paper marks.
It's beautiful, and that's what's making the over sites stand out. The inside of the Rhino isn't weathered/painted. The fishing pole is crazy long, and Tau are a blue skinned race right? This is such an amazing undertaking. Thank you!
Some types of fishing poles are over 2 times bigger, he’s clearly sunburnt.
Yeah fishing pole can be crazy long, when people think of fishing pole they often think of a fresh water fishing pole with reel probably between 1.60 to 3 meter generally used for bait casting. but a fishing pole for bobber fishing in freshwater can easily reached 4 meter, a sea fishing pole 5 meter, and the longest are pole fishing rod they don't have a reel and basically the length of the rod determine the distance you are fishing those things can reach 13 meter.
I like how everyone is defending the length of the pole and not his red skin.
I can totally picture the old fire warrior religiously donning his armor every day once again for the greater good and keeping it in stellar condition. Doesnt matter if he is stranded on a lost world, he is always ready.
At first I was like " why would a dude stranded there for years and years keep his armor on?" and then I had the same thought as you and I was ok with it. Though I do think it would have been cool to have a strat of endgame thanos style scarecrow with the armor on top of it.
I can see him taking it off to bathe so he doesn’t smell when he gets picked up… for the greater he must not stink.
The only thing missing here is that he should have his gun at hand ;)
Kinda like Lt Onoda from Imperial Japan. He was still serving in the mountains of the Philippines from WWII…….in the 1960’s. His gear was in immaculate shape, rifle piled and clean, same as the uniform, his ammunition. Wild story, but yeah, for The Greater Good
Why is his skin red with the wrong color armor?
Any reason the Tau is such a strange colour? I've never heard of a red tau, is it just a stylistic choice?

Really enjoying the progress on this. If I had one critique it would be that the rust on the corrugated metal plates on top of the Rhino is too orange and there's just way too much. Besides that I think the whole thing is turning out great!
Looks amazing, this is really coming together. I do think you missed a fun trick with the chair though, the fire warrior could have repurposed one of his drones as the seat. Looking forward to the next one already

Hello/tjaaa Emil, i just bought my first ever minis, SoB. My minis dosent look good at all. I have such shackes when iam trying to paint eyes/small details.i went to Fantasia north and bought my stuff, my brother told me to go local and support them 👍 love the vids man keep it up🤟
Amazing and inspirational work. I don't care about the colour scheme for the fire warrior. Our hobby is about what we want it to look like, well with fiction at least.

My only issue is that the fire warriors skin isn't blue. I get he's supposed to be horrifically burned but just bugs me.
I see some people not saying it politely enough so I will. Despite it a fantastic paint job like absolutely incredible. The fact the tau is a pinkish colour does seem to take my attention away from the rest. But perhaps I should just stop using my nerd lore goggles and actually look at the product itself because it is phenomenal, and it does add a pretty unique spin onto it. Well done all round though this is an incredible journey
Looking at this again, the salmon colour does work well in contrast to the blue armour so maybe not?!?
I guess the diet he has to eat would end up with a nutritional imbalance. You get blue humans who have taken in too much silver.

Lukas is super soft
This rhino was lucky. Most of their survivors have been unpainted for nearly 50 years. This one's unique now. He got a blanket and heart pillow too. Happy rhino.
I love this series, Only small thing is the background of the hut seems a little blank. A idea would be that he had marked the days since he is alone as small scratches on the white wall behind him.
Looks awesome; the weathering, the plasticard, the blanket(!). I can't help feeling the fishing rod is to long, but that might just be me.
Its also the fact that it curves up and goes out past where the bobber is sitting just not how fishing works

Lukas makes it so easy! It would have been cool to have a tiny led light inside the rhino so you could really see the bed/have some idea that the warrior is trying to keep his small radio alive, but it's still so cool 👍
Yeah, one of those bell shaped LED's hanging from a wire off the roof would be cool.

The smiley face makes me think that perhaps the Tau has been infected with tyranid DNA from the cave and is now a genestealer.
Love the scratchbuilding on the Rhino. I'm a bit confused by how clean the top hatch is on the inside though, in the pictures it almost looks like its pure white.
Also: will the whole rhino be blended into the surroundings some more in the next step? like maybe a few grass tufts, moss and vines growing on it? Surely some vegetation will have grown on it since it has been on the planet before the manta crashlanded.
Just a few things I thought about and wanted to throw in your general direction.
PS: I know its probably another thing that would cost a bunch of money and time, but I honestly think a custom sculpted T'au would have been wayy more fitting of being the "focal point" of your whole diorama. The one person your whole lore is centered around is this little stiffly sitting clump of forgeworld resin with an open mouth grumpy head.
PPS: I really don't want to demean anything you have done here and the craftsmanship is definetely very up there, it just feels like it needed a little ... more love since it was talked about so much up until now.
I'm not too convinced by the effect of this to be honest. Though overall this project is still amazing.
The big thing (among minor things) is the rod looks dysfunctional, and too heavy for this one-handed pose, I've similar issues with the un-taunt flag acting as a tarp, it doesn't feel like someone pinned it down to keep the rain out.
(Weight wise I might also suggest sinking the tank into the ground by sawing the bottom off, to make the tank feel heavy, and the environment less even and more hostile.)
Perhaps more subjectively I'm kind of sad the tau's skin isn't a shade of blue, in this case it would make his head pop against all that red, and you've the flag in that classic dark sandy yellow yet the armor is teal, would have loved to see those conventual colors on the firewarrior that so many people associate with them. (also (though it could be explained away) your pilot being operated on is blue)
Maybe it would be cool to see some more story-telling elements like a propped up gun (so we think to ourselves "will he get to the gun in time to defend himself from the nid!?"), salvaged supplies, mess tins, along with more overgrowth which would tie the rhino in a bit more. I suspect you'll maybe add flora, props and debris last so sorry if I'm jumping the gun.
Loving this all though, it's so interesting to see what you guys are doing.

I've now received updates from the universe science foundation, the results are in. The evidence are clearly conclusive and a resounding YES was the answer to the question: "If they should" ;)
When youre making the terrain it would be pretty grimdark to have same spacemarine and tau suits and skeletons that have been overgrown under the foliage

Can't help but shift the fact that the tau's skin should have a more blue'ish tone, rest of the job looks amazing tho.
Squid confirmed in a comment that the Tau is possibly infected by the tyranid DNA from the cave, hence the shift in skin colour.

I've really enjoyed the rest of the diorama, so it's really upsetting that I'm disappointed in this part =( As a lot of folks have said, the Tau skin and the Extreme Fishing Pole are... odd, and as at least one comment said, the inside of the hatch door looks almost unpainted. It seems like it should be showing a lot more wear. But the main thing that bothers me is that it seems like it was made gribbly just for the sake of being gribbly. Some wear on the Rhino, that seems reasonable, but the wear on the tin sheets and the flag just looks like you all decided to go to town because you wanted it to look really messy. It feels visually ugly, and it seems like that big lump of red and orange is a big contrast to the rest of the diorama as well (maybe it will look better with everything else in place), but toning down the orange splotchiness would have done a lot to subdue that. Hopefully when it all comes together this will be minimized. Anxiously awaiting everything else though!
Amazing work, I honestly can't wait to see the complete piece. One thing to nitpick, the fishing pole seems too thin for it's length, if it's supposed to look wooden. This planet's trees may be harder than what we are used to, but it doesn't read like a wooden pole with the current length to me.

I read it as bamboo. Traditional Japanese fishing poles look quite similar.

Yea I agree, a lot of places still use simple stick and string fishing poles so I think they could just look at some pictures for a simple, straight stick type of look.
Nownif it was maybe an mounted one more like one bolted to a ship, and used wirh mechanical advantage as the Tau sat supervising it.

I sincerely hope you guys read this. First, at 10:28 the fire warrior's face looks like a "colossal titan" from Attack on titan. Now anyone reading this cant unsee it either.
Secondly I honestly think it was a bit of a mistake not to go with the traditional Tau colors. Looking at the same timeframe, 10:28, I honestly wouldnt know if was a Tau fire warrior without being told. Perhaps the Manta will be sufficient of a clue later on. You guys do you, but I would ask you at least spend some time thinking about the color scheme for the Tau.
yeah i think so aswell, there are 2 things that make the T'au Firewarriors T'au Firwarriors, the iconic helmets and/or their blue skin
If you take aways both, it's hard to distinguish what this is or should be ...
cut the fishing pole in half it looks very very odd and out of scale even if it were the biggest ocean casting shore rod its waaay to long and feels like a missed opportunity to use a bit of left over tau tech or something as the pole
You forgot to weather the inside of the Rhino. With his lid up, the flat grey doesnt fit the rest of it.
Great job overall but you can't tell me I'm the only one thinking that fishing rod is megalong I feel it breaks this scene

There was an entire Manta worth of equipment there, I would suggest at the very least, painting up a Pulse Rifle and maybe putting it on his work bench, by his bed or next to him. Maybe he doesn't just fish for food. I would imagine he must use that pulse rifle for hunting game. The plasma has to cook it somewhat for him.
Now I kinda want him to have a friendly firstborn fishing buddy
Why not the traditional blue Tau skin? Would be like putting a red Ork, or Jade skinned Marine.

Looks incredible so far! Only suggestion is the fishing rod is wayyyyy too long. When you cast a fishing rod, the bobber is NOT supposed to be directly underneath the end of the rod as it is here. It should honestly be about half the length it currently is. But anyway, that's just a small nitpick. Can't wait to see the next video!

Love this series, but guys that fishing rod is waaaaaay to long, for perspective it would be the equivalent of a person using a 24ft-30ft rod.
A fish communist alien, fishing for other fish, after crashing with his space ship on a lonely planned... apparently packed with at least 3 other alien races that are all equalliy terrifying - and the fish rod is the thing that you react to 😂😂😂😂
A 30ft fishing Rod is not that uncommon tho. I have a 12meter so like 40ft(?) Angling(?) rod at home :)

yeah but: do you use it for fishing in a "small" lake? is yours solid bent wood with knots weak points? is your rod for general use or for specific types of fish/fishing? and does using it require any special types of hooks, line or bobbers?
I'm not a fisher (obviously) and these might not be real issue but to my eyes it looks weird to use something as tall as a tree for an improvised rod.

Too bad that the fire warrior isn't blue, I think he looks too "fleshy"/human and it would have contrasted nicely with the rhino, but apart for this tiny detail the whole diorama is honestly jaw-dropping, can't wait for the next episode !

The skin colour can be an stylistic choice, that is OK. I seen red, grey and blue orks are they were cool, that's not a big deal.
But I agree with the lenght of the fishing rod, it is too long. But that should be an easy fix.

Great job guys! Perhaps the fishing pole is a little too big, but really great job. Ah, Lukas, when you're fighting with sword and shield you must hit with the pointy end, not with the shield..
Please try out oils for weathering, especially for verdigris and rust... for me and many i know it was a game changer.

Looks great, but please sand the front of the resin (test elsewhere before you do it here please) it can vary. But slowly working up from a low grit till its good (i saw another comment recomend that going up to 1000 grit is good) Will make the layer lines dissappear as well as making the resin just that much clearer to see through
I think it would be really cool to have a crisis suit parked next to the rhino. Have It all beat up and have parts replaced by scrap and such, maybe even have arm attachments that are more practical for survival than war that the fire warrior have made. Just a suggestion. With that said, this diorama is looking amazing and I can’t wait to see it finished!
Im not exceptionally well read up on tau lore, so im going to ask instead of assume. Did i miss some lore update somewhere about tau having multiple skin and blood hues?
As far as i was aware, their skin was supposed to be a light pastel blue like color, and their blood was also blue due to cobolt.

You could have done a better job to the Soldier imao. For example binging the hand together to hold the line or giving him a more natual sitting pose on that roof and i actually dislike the choise for the skin and armor color but ok guess I am more of a tradtional guy in that regard. But I like camp designe tho I would have added more interior detail to the rhino since a diorama is telling a story so where is the interior? Do u guy plan to make a junk pile next to the camp for eveything he removed from the rhino? Will there be wood sources in the area to explain the desk and fishing rod? Can't wait to see if you guys address those issues :D
1:01 - It is the box of an old Rogue Trader / 2ed Edition rhino ... but it is the model of a "modern" rhino. I feel betrayed. :-(
