    DandyCrew - I have read a lot of the comments about this game and really want to clarify something here…
    CoolDool and I have been (for the most part) Catan friends and played many games in tournaments and leagues. Considering my position, dev draws, and dice this game… I don’t fault him for most of his plays and frankly, there’s a lot of cases where I win this game if just a few 9s come in (especially early). He had every right to hit me as an OWS competitor AND a strong player. I might not like that decision but clearly I’m biased. Overall, no one should be blaming or shaming anyone at this table for “misplays” or bad blocks. At the end of the day, it’s better to consider what I could have done to improve my chances.
    1. Pointing the road up on the 694 was greedy and unnecessary. Most likely cost me the game since I could have pointed left to the desert 3:1.
    2. Blocking the 5 shared was most likely ineffective but I thought cool might have played a knight. Better to hit the other 5 or a more impactful roll.
    3. I needed to make a deal with robin to make sure I preserve my settle spot on the 10. No point in helping extend the game just to get plowed by him and lose.
    4. There might have been a few insurance deals to save my hand from 7ing a few times.
    Overall, I made mistakes that potentially cost me the game and that’s will always be on me. Stay kind to your fellow players and know we all want to do our best to win. Anyone who gets to a final table knows what they are doing. 🎉

    I think you guys did very well to combat against a player that pulls 4 devs and gets RB for road, Mono for city, YOP for city, and VP to close out the game. Perfect devs in perfect order plus had massive 5s and 6s rolling while your 9s rolled 2x. The fact that you got that close is amazing. Well done, Drew!

    Cooldool *talked* a lot of aggression toward Drew through a lot of the game but in reality Drew was hardly targeted in terms of blocks and robs just because 7s weren't rolled. That's an easy win for Drew if 9s started rolling at the end but it truly was too many 5s to overcome. It's unfortunate that such unbalanced dice happened in the finals.

    • @serrademers6047

      I think you forget how much table talk can affect the mentality of players. It is absolutely a tactic that abnormally skewed the game in Carter's favor.

    • @Funglutton
      @Funglutton ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to blame the dice you can't have it both ways: Drew escaped a lot of early blocks on his Wheat because the 7 just didn't roll while his Ore popped off. That his 9 didn't roll simply pushes the needle a little into 'bad luck' territory. It wasn't terrible luck when you consider it on balance. Drew's decision to point his road up instead of getting a guaranteed settle was also a factor. There were 2 good Wood-Brick spots left when Drew made that decision. The risk of getting plowed was pretty high.

    It's clear there were more influencing factors to this L, but sometimes it just felt like Cool was more focused on making sure you didn't win than making sure he did. Between his odd placements and plow on top of his tunnel vision table talk, it seems like the pressure of the moment really got to him and he channeled all his anxiety in your direction. Even beyond the results I'm sure that must've been a very frustrating experience for you and I have empathy for that

    • @Funglutton
      @Funglutton ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I disagree. His victory condition relies on either cities or VPs, but he can't do that quickly. If Drew gets the 6-3 he just wins faster. Plowing made total sense given that it only takes a couple of 9s for Drew to settle. Plus Drew had been blocking the 5 Wheat non-stop and kept saying he had loads of knights to play. Having the 6 as well helps your game a lot.

    • @cruizin_usa2361

      Since you can’t block Drew and Carter at the same time, Cooldool (and Robin) made the right plays by slowing down Drew while keeping Carter blocked. And don’t forget that Drew gave Carter a 2:1 and the next turn stole from Robin despite harping about Carter’s dominant position since the start

    • @odoacredacalcutta5085

      That seems a bit disingenuous. Orange is showing 8, and yea the production is crazy. But the robber lives on them and they have to port for ore. Meanwhile you are showing 6 with 4 down devs. You never disclosed you had 2 vps, and nor should you. So I’m not sure what ultimately Black and Green do differently. Leaving you the 10 ore settle essentially guarantees you the win. In fact, after that spot was plowed, you still were able to road over to a new settle spot AND pop another dev lol. So again, the lack of 9s and the abundance of 5s is pretty much the whole story

      I certainly agree my setup was good and the potential is there. One of the issues here (that people don’t see) is Cooldool and I have dealt with some past issues on reputation and in some cases, I try to mitigate that behavior early to avoid things getting out of hand. Carter has some clear advantages in terms of flexibility, production, and expansion. Having multiple 3 hex settle spots open and a road network is a massive W for him as the road player going against 3 OWS players. As far the plows, I understand the first one but the 2nd one is questionable given the board condition - It might have been more optimal for Robin to plow the 52 against Carter and make me pay to leave the settle spot open. This kind of plays should have been discussed but Cooldool was very persistent that I had to lose that spot without considering alternative paths… So I don’t agree that ALL the of table’s decisions were optimal (including some of mine). Overall, I made some critical mistakes that cost me opportunities and that’s 100% on me. It was still a fun game and interesting to deal with variance that goes this way. Appreciate the comments and feedback y’all! ❤

But that doesnt mean players should ignore other players chances at winning especially when they are ahead. Saying you are tied for winning at 3vps and orange at 7 is crazy. Yes with your game secret vps and army are kinda guarenteed at that point of the game, but the awareness of other players needs to be higher. This game at its soul is about board balancing and that game was the block DandyDrew game. Even later in the game other players had the audacity judge you for blocking the wrong hex when they were blocking the wrong hexes most of the game. Left a sour taste in my mouth and am very dissapointed in how the other players played against you.

This was a relatively high ows board and there is simply no way on such a board as 1st you skip on the ore. the pick was either 8-5-10 or 4-6-9. Had Drew drawn just 2-3 less knights and some more monos or even yop or rb to build 1 more settlement he would have won confortably simply because he had no competition for army while orange eventually was surely losing road, DESPITE hitting 5s insanely heavy. In fact targeting Drew was not wrong. Wtf that guy plowing you at the end while the other guy being at 8 with 3 cities. Just dumb plays through all the game. And him laughing after doing it, just looks like a child.

    Players like Cool irritate me. Since the beginning he us aggro towards you. Very unsportsmanlike.

      Cool and I have played each other many times, and I know he respects me as a strong player. I also understand why he would hit a strong player. I think the biggest thing is to not tunnel early. To be fair to him, if the 9 balanced a bit better, I believe I do win this game if we continue to feed robin

      @dandydrew 100%. His play to convince Robin to take your settle was completely unnecessary, given the state of the board. He even apologizes, knowing it was a dick move. Still was a good game. It's just annoying as a viewer of games to constantly see people in voice chat abuse and turn against you and make you public enemy #1.

      I think in that moment, Robin could have taken the settle from carter and made me pay up. That’s a deal I should have thought about.

      Since Drew and orange can’t be blocked simultaneously, it makes perfect sense to slow Drew down (as Cooldool points out by saying if we stall long enough Drew just wins). The robber is living on orange while orange fights for road or builds to 10, so make it harder for Drew to settle. I respect Cooldool’s approach this game

    So, black guy takes a really bad spot, because he "feels inspired", then acts salty for 20 minutes, then losing the game and makes it onesided even. Strange dude.

    This game was insufferable. Players like Black that tunnel-vision to the point of you both losing ruin this game. I'm glad Black lost, he did not deserve the win.

    Game is nearly unwatchable due to black. His game sense is so awful. I just imagine him being that kid in your play group of Magic or Catan or whatever that you end up giving the game away to just to get him to shut up. Im sorry i know we like to keep it positive here but wow...

      Cooldool is a great player and has never been rude or nasty to me as a person. Though I didn’t agree with some of the focus, we have to acknowledge our setup is good and with better luck on the dice (9s rolling) we most likely win after securing army. We just needed 1 settle to close it out.

      Black played just fine. What an L take. Skewed dice was what determined 95% of this game.

      @cruizin_usa2361 Never once said anything about how the game was won or lost. What an L response. I just said it was nearly unwatchable due to his nonstop ranting and tunneling.
      Also never said he was a bad player. Just said he was annoying.

      Feel free to disagree with my opinion on Black's antics, but at least read what I wrote before saying my comment is an L or trying to explain how the game is won or lost. I watched the game, I saw the dice stats.

    Talk about poor sportsmanship by cool (Black) there doing what ever you can to ruin someone else's game because they are TH-cam famous at the detriment to your own game was not the way to play.
