And if you're naming after King Midas, the one who turned things into gold via touch, you may want to not call it "Midus". But yeah, this is everyone's go-to when they get the transmute spell, I can't say I have ever produced silver weapons via this method and have only gone on to make and enchant jewelry.
I wrote this entire process in several comments sections back in the day cus no one would do it but i really dont think hes stolen this, just all of us have the same strat cus its pretty obvious.
Issue is that gold is essentially worthless in game. It’s so easy to accumulate more than you will ever need and if you do ever need some quick you’re limited by the npcs available money
That’s why people role play with it. I play thieves a lot too much infact when I role play as a thief, I hold on to every gem I get and then at the end of my save I sell all of them and see how much I have. It’s fun tho to role play as the richest person ever.
Sometimes when I decide I have too much money I will literally start putting random amounts in random barrels in whatever town I'm in. I once tossed a quarter million gold on the floor in front of the orphanage in riften. I like to imagine that basically set the orphanage for decades to come. And before anyone asks yes I ended that specific bitch before I did so.
I spent a playthrough doing this while living in Whiterun and RP’ing as a journeyman enchanter - going out to collect materials in order to pay for mead and food at the tavern. It was a very chill playthrough.
Did this in survival mode but as a hunter/explorer, hunting animals for food and gold, camping in the woods, clearing dungeons and selling it all for food and room and ale at the tavern, and ill move from tavern to tavern, just vibing fr
@alejandrovillares8571 the alternate start mod makes this a non factor. Would definitely recommend. I was able to do several playthroughs where I was literally never the dragonborn.
@@Mr.Skdoodlethis method is much fun - i was everything, from forsworn outcast, over zombiehunter, assassin and witcher up to that orc that claimed the big hammer from his god, to smash evil
This is my go to method for building a battle mage. If you complete barenziahs crown for the thieves guild you’ll find gems way more often and it makes creating jewelry much easier
You should also mention that it is easy to find. Near the northern watchtower behind Whiterun is a bandit cave ( the one where you easily find early game Mammoth tusks) on the desk of the bandit chief
This has been my go to method for leveling up my smithing for a few years. It was a big game changer from spending a ton of money and making iron daggers
Didn't like it when they reduced iron dagger experience. If they offered immersive alternatives to level, it would be fine, but they only increased the grind
I remember discovering this on my first playthrough. I spent HOURS mining, buying and then transmuting hundreds of iron ore into gold, making jewelry, enchanting it and selling it. Love this spell, for any build!
Yup, you can also uae items like vokun and clavicus masque to net even more gold. It's also a great way to power level mage skills with trainers. Since most trainers at the College of winterholdare also vendors, you can train with them for money, and then sell all that enchanted jewelry to them (preferably equipped with a fortify barter item/potion) to get your money back, rinse and repeat. You can get to level 30 in a few hours.
So for anyone who doesn't know where to find the Transmute Ore spell book it is located at Halted Stream Count, just north of Whiterun and near Silent Moons Camp.
@@infinitybreak4459you must have just started playing Skyrim because this is one of the most common ways to level up smiting. This is a super well known meta as witnessed by no one being surprised by this in the comment section.

This is exactly how I power levelled and got my gold to buy the shop back like 10 years ago. Never really would have thought about calling this a technique. Rather just the smart way of doing it.
I've always run up to that camp to snag that tome on EVERY.. SINGLE.. PLAYTHROUGH. Just having easy access to making a boatload of gold early on is really nice. Transmute, Smelt, Blacksmith.
i figured this out in my first playthrough. only issue i had was finding iron since i wasnt good at memorizing things. now that i know theres only four mines worth doing and they respawn 30 days after being harvested last, well smithing training just means alot of naptime.
@@mrtoast244 i also try to avoid glitches that arent explainable within the game. so basically i only use the restoration glitch cause its literally just the potion doing its job
@@pulsefel9210 I mean, the alternative is waiting 2 days every time you buy iron. Which isn't an exploit or a glitch, but is just a more time consuming way of doing the same thing. For things like this I'm fine with exploits personally. Also the restoration loop is crazy and way more of an exploit than resetting shops lol
Some additional tips for this; Buy iron ore from every blacksmith that you can fast travel to and deposit it in a player home or hand it to a companion until you're out of space. Equip transmutation in each hand. You can rapidly cast transmutation alternating between left and right hand casting. You'll double the amount of transmutations per session. Make sure to enchant/buy some gear with increased Magicka so that you can cast more transmutations before running out of Magicka. Once you run out of Magicka, take a one hour rest. It's much faster than waiting for your Magicka to regen. Collect gemstones anytime you see them at a general store or when looting. They can be used to smith even more valuable jewelry. Pay attention though, only some can be used in gold jewelry. Keep a companion and a pet with an inventory by your side. You can stock up on more iron ore & jewelry during the process. Alteration's "Adept Alteration" perk is a must!
Well, I'm glad someone finally gave it a name and put it out on the web. That Iron mine became one of my first stops on any playthrough after I discovered that spell.
They need to make a mod where i can turn gold ingots directly into septiums so i dont get under cut by the vendors. (You forgot to mention the speech exp for selling all the stuff you make!)
The problem with this pitfall is it levels up so many things aside from stuff that will help you in combat. Every level you gain, enemies are constantly scaling. And you find yourself quickly overpowered if you over do it.
True but thing is really powerfull gear will start spawning too in dungeons and with vendors. Stuff like ebony, glass, ect and with these you will stand a decent chance against higher level enemies
@@infinitybreak4459and you can just enchant your custom smithed and improved armor with health boosts etc. To handle and or compensate for low combat skills
Smithing is probably the best skill to have in combat it increases and negates dmg meanwhile dmg focused trees have a slower dmg growth and armor trees take forever to lvl unless you abuse healing magic against weak enemys
I've been using this method for 6 or seven years now. Transmute is always the first spell I go for when I get to Whiterun. The fact that it's so close and it's found in a mining camp packed with iron ore makes it a great starter spell to boost exp in the beginning of the game. The only down side is you need to make sure you have the magic to cast it.
I use this spell in every playthrough of Skyrim I do I'll never forget when a friend that introduced me to the game showed me this spell we use to watch each other play the game all the time sadly he passed away in 2019 I made a very powerful build as a tribute to him with the last character race he used I'm itching to recreate it and possibly make it better in the anniversary edition when I get a chance to play it again unfortunately due to some recent events I can't play any games at the moment
Damn I didn’t know this, ty! I assumed the spell was useless lmao. My second play thru ever rn. Joined Tullius and the imperials on my first play thru as a lv 33 stealth ranger, didn’t even finish game and started a second play thru as a lv 22 battlemage (1h + spells + heavy) Having a blast. This game is amazing. Sad I didn’t experience it as a child but it is providing an amazing adult gaming experience
Aye bro if you need tips let me know cause I've mastered the Skyrim. Got the platinum the same year it came out back in 2011 and still play to this day and I've done literally everything Skyrim has to offer (minus mods and creation club content). I've played every character race and done every type of build imaginable. From busted Battle Mage to Ultimate Stealth build. Pickpocket combat, Pure Warrior, Pure Mage, fists only, pacifist run (when not killing is an option). I also know how to make weapons and armor so strong you can play on Legendary difficulty and not worry about enemies being bulky sponges or worry about dying in 1-2 hits. I also know much faster money making methods than this. Anything you want to know about Vanilla Skyrim I probably know it.
When the vendors eventually run out of gold to sell your now enchanted jewelry… back out of the store menu and make a save. Then hit the vendor with a weapon and reload your save… *voilà* their entire inventory, including their gold, gets reset which increases your speech skill even more
Don’t forget fortify alchemy glitch paired with the transmute spell is otherworldly. Anytime I start a new character, first few hours are getting the necessary supplies to become OP.
The transmute down is like one of THE FIRST things i do in Skyrim when i make a new character lol. I leave Helgen, hit EVERY SINGLE IRON MINE on my way to Riverwood then whiterun then north to the coast and west all the way to solitude (solitude is great for earning tons of gold quickly plus proudspire) and when I'm in solitude I'll transfer and Smith all the gold and silver jeweled rings and necklaces, or just straight up regular gold rings because they weigh less. Also really helps to have the sign of the steed for like triple the carry weight at low level, or you can go the mage stone for alteration xp.
A truly one of a kind spell to come out in an elderscrolls series game legit all other games before hand they allowed you to make custom spells but the one game they don’t allow you to do that in they lock in hard for the visual effects, mechanics, and types granted they lack the vastness of the many schools of magic the previous games once had and the ability to absolutely break your game testing out the many different effects each spell had to offer along with finding out game breaking bugs within them via custom spells it really shows how far and vast the mind of Todd Howard and the likes of the teams that worked on these games over the years really put into making a generic Bethesda titled game like elderscrolls or fallout feel like a trip down memory lane I just wish they would stop remastering Skyrim and instead try remastering the older fallout and elderscrolls games
Aye. This became a core part of all my playthroughs the moment I discovered the location of the spell tome. This would always be one of the first things I'd do in a playthrough. Now My character is always like like level 20 something and able to make ebony armor for himself and his followers.
i also like to use a different trick i found out: in any Dwarven/Dwemer ruin, you will find lots of item called "large dwemer plate metal", "small dwemer plate metal", and "bent dwemer scrap metal". take any of those to a smelter, and you can make them into Dwemer Bars, which you can use to make Dwemer weapons and armor. but most of those ALSO require iron, so i usually just make lots of Dwemer Arrows. this also works with "large dwemer strut", "large decorative dwemer strut", and "solid dwemer metal", BUT, those are very heavy, so i usually ignore them. the "solid metal" has a weight of 25 and only produces 5 bars when smelted...
Man I just love the implementation of crafting in Skyrim. I've been slipping on it for a very long time, being super bored and never finished a single playthrough but now with a fresh mindset of just immersing myself in the world and the gameplay mechanics the game has totally grown on me immensely. I'm 16 hours in on my new playthrough and am still in Whiterun just doing silly magic stuff
This has been a method in the game for years. My brother and I were doing this ten years ago, I think he’s the one who actually came up with this strategy. He probably saw me smithing a bunch of iron daggers and thought that was dumb so we started transmuting gold, making jewelry, enchanting that jewelry, then selling it, leveling up multiple skills at once. If you add alchemy into the mix you can become incredibly overpowered with enchanting without any glitches
This is literally how I have been grinding smithing and enchanting. Bonus fact, banish dadra enchantment is the most valuable enchantment for weapons, and showes up at vendors at level 23 I believe

But yeah, this is everyone's go-to when they get the transmute spell, I can't say I have ever produced silver weapons via this method and have only gone on to make and enchant jewelry.
It's the first thing i remember when it comes to smithing
I wrote this entire process in several comments sections back in the day cus no one would do it but i really dont think hes stolen this, just all of us have the same strat cus its pretty obvious.
@doughdeputy4449 thank you finnally someone who gets it!
So you don't use the save n reload glitch to reset the merchants?
Not if you combine it with enchanting, and smithing 1000 gold rings with enchantments with net you more gold than you'll know what to do with
I never sell or use my gold to smith, I just accumulate it and so far I have over 250k+ in gold.
Been playing skyrim for ages and never knew this, thanks man
One of my favorite things to do everytime I play Skyrim. Nice to see it getting the love it deserves.
Yeah but it’s not “the best spell”…. Cringe clickbait
I spent a playthrough doing this while living in Whiterun and RP’ing as a journeyman enchanter - going out to collect materials in order to pay for mead and food at the tavern. It was a very chill playthrough.
I respect that
Did this in survival mode but as a hunter/explorer, hunting animals for food and gold, camping in the woods, clearing dungeons and selling it all for food and room and ale at the tavern, and ill move from tavern to tavern, just vibing fr
yeah, sadly out of nowhere you are chosen by the whitebeards and have to do a mandatory crazy quest to complete the playthrough :(
@alejandrovillares8571 the alternate start mod makes this a non factor.

Berenziah's Crown is always the first thing I do. I like swimming in jewels like Scrooge McDuck.
When fellow players ask what I'd like to have in the real world - that crown and a necklace of disease immunity
When Starfield releases
“I don’t want to play with you anymore”
And starfield was mid😢
Meh not a fan of space without any tension so i stuck with fallout and skyrim, i prefreed the stakes there was and the atmosphere
Awesome to see that the strategies I used back in 2011/12 are finally being appreciated 😂
You should also mention that it is easy to find. Near the northern watchtower behind Whiterun is a bandit cave ( the one where you easily find early game Mammoth tusks) on the desk of the bandit chief
Thank you, adventurer.
This makes me want to write a skyrim isekai with the protagonist doing this to make bank
I love this technique. Been using it for ages. Pairs great with windstad mine mod
I like this. It's one of the few legitimate none glitch methods of leveling.
So for anyone who doesn't know where to find the Transmute Ore spell book it is located at Halted Stream Count, just north of Whiterun and near Silent Moons Camp.
I don’t know how you’ve never heard about this before this has been the “meta” way to play Skyrim since it came out
Yeah but no one talks about the way this spell can really kickstart it all
@@infinitybreak4459you must have just started playing Skyrim because this is one of the most common ways to level up smiting. This is a super well known meta as witnessed by no one being surprised by this in the comment section.
@@infinitybreak4459bit of advice get some gear to reduce alteration spell cost so you can transmute more ore without having to wait an hour between every cast
I always used it for smithing, but I rarely enchant this jewelry. Usually it ends up in one of my houses 😂
*Quicksaves in front of Adrianne Avenicci*
@@mrtoast244 i also try to avoid glitches that arent explainable within the game. so basically i only use the restoration glitch cause its literally just the potion doing its job
@@pulsefel9210 I mean, the alternative is waiting 2 days every time you buy iron. Which isn't an exploit or a glitch, but is just a more time consuming way of doing the same thing. For things like this I'm fine with exploits personally. Also the restoration loop is crazy and way more of an exploit than resetting shops lol
@@mrtoast244 "A salesperson might get nervous... a man approaches with his finger on F5"
This game will be talked about forever lol
Some additional tips for this;
Buy iron ore from every blacksmith that you can fast travel to and deposit it in a player home or hand it to a companion until you're out of space.
This is my primary money making method in any given skyrim playthrough. I love the name you gave it though, I am all for it and will call it that :)
Enchanting and smithing are the most important skills in the game imo
Don't forget Alchemy. The crafting skills and system in Skyrim is just busted.
Master alchemy, smithing and enchanting, and you can just play any style
Yea man this is a hella good strategy! First time I found that spell I couldn't believe they would add something so exploitable.
Well, I'm glad someone finally gave it a name and put it out on the web. That Iron mine became one of my first stops on any playthrough after I discovered that spell.
I personally like the healing. Equilibrium duo
They need to make a mod where i can turn gold ingots directly into septiums so i dont get under cut by the vendors. (You forgot to mention the speech exp for selling all the stuff you make!)
Isn't that forgery? 😂
This isn't Oblivion
Smithing is probably the best skill to have in combat it increases and negates dmg meanwhile dmg focused trees have a slower dmg growth and armor trees take forever to lvl unless you abuse healing magic against weak enemys
I’ve been doing this my most recent play through word for word, cool you figured it out too and shared.
Midas: (mee-dus)
As for making money this way, only if the merchants have enough gold to trade back.
I use this method quite a lot. Since I like to level my smithing as fast as I possibly can.
DID SOMEBODY SAY TEA?!?!
I used this technique before I even seen someone make a video on it, thought I was the only one doing this hahah glad to know I’m not alone 👍🏽👍🏽
You forgot how selling all that expensive enchanted jewelry increases your speech skill set and increases your xp as well for leveling up
i remember staying like 4 hours grinding iron, creating silver, dropping it, pass time for mana, and repeat. good times
this is why you quad-spec into cooking as well. make food for ridiculous mana-regen xD
Bro out here doing runescape money making methods in Skyrim
I used this when playing my first OP mage back when I still played Skyrim. Man those were the days..
Nah nothing beats blasting dragons out of the sky or lighting a camp up from above with lightning storm.
Damn I didn’t know this, ty! I assumed the spell was useless lmao. My second play thru ever rn. Joined Tullius and the imperials on my first play thru as a lv 33 stealth ranger, didn’t even finish game and started a second play thru as a lv 22 battlemage (1h + spells + heavy)
Having a blast. This game is amazing. Sad I didn’t experience it as a child but it is providing an amazing adult gaming experience
First time I played skyrim i was like 12, today im 21 and still play it🤣🤣
Aye bro if you need tips let me know cause I've mastered the Skyrim.
Then hit the vendor with a weapon and reload your save… *voilà* their entire inventory, including their gold, gets reset which increases your speech skill even more
I’ve never even thought about enchanting the jewelry lol I use this method every playthrough too
Don’t forget fortify alchemy glitch paired with the transmute spell is otherworldly. Anytime I start a new character, first few hours are getting the necessary supplies to become OP.
This reminds me of the iron dagger exploit when the game came out
Ah yes, Dragonborn, Leader of all factions, Thane of all Holds, killer of the World Eater, and now, Doom of the Nord/Imperial Economy
I actually did this back when skyrim originally released back in 2011, as soon as i saw that spell book i thought this idea up.
Wizard using magic to take mundane metal and turn it into inflation: _Stonks 📈_
The transmute down is like one of THE FIRST things i do in Skyrim when i make a new character lol. I leave Helgen, hit EVERY SINGLE IRON MINE on my way to Riverwood then whiterun then north to the coast and west all the way to solitude (solitude is great for earning tons of gold quickly plus proudspire) and when I'm in solitude I'll transfer and Smith all the gold and silver jeweled rings and necklaces, or just straight up regular gold rings because they weigh less. Also really helps to have the sign of the steed for like triple the carry weight at low level, or you can go the mage stone for alteration xp.
i use it since day 1. ohh old days playing it... thanks for the good memories, lad.
The only problem with having expensive things is no Merchant can really afford it
This was the number 1 trick six years ago when I played Skyrim
Yeah I didn’t learn of this spell until multiple years after starting to play skyrim but it’s insanely useful
This spell is amazing for iron man challenges, it’s actually a necessity.
Last time i was like “nah why tf would i need it”
You can find the spellbook on a table inside Halted Stream Camp (which also has a lot of iron veins)
My go to method for making lots of money early in the game, thanks for spreading the word!
Aye. This became a core part of all my playthroughs the moment I discovered the location of the spell tome. This would always be one of the first things I'd do in a playthrough. Now My character is always like like level 20 something and able to make ebony armor for himself and his followers.
No, I hadn't thought of this at all. I feel like playing Skyrim now 😂
Thanks!
The day I see a detail about Skyrim I didn't already know will probably be the day Elder Scrolls 6 comes out
Imagine thinking you’re the only person using a widely known game mechanic
i also like to use a different trick i found out:
in any Dwarven/Dwemer ruin, you will find lots of item called "large dwemer plate metal", "small dwemer plate metal", and "bent dwemer scrap metal".
take any of those to a smelter, and you can make them into Dwemer Bars, which you can use to make Dwemer weapons and armor.
but most of those ALSO require iron, so i usually just make lots of Dwemer Arrows.
this also works with "large dwemer strut", "large decorative dwemer strut", and "solid dwemer metal", BUT, those are very heavy, so i usually ignore them.
the "solid metal" has a weight of 25 and only produces 5 bars when smelted...
I forgot about this for an entire playthrough, good times
Man I just love the implementation of crafting in Skyrim. I've been slipping on it for a very long time, being super bored and never finished a single playthrough but now with a fresh mindset of just immersing myself in the world and the gameplay mechanics the game has totally grown on me immensely. I'm 16 hours in on my new playthrough and am still in Whiterun just doing silly magic stuff
My friend told me about it years ago and I’ve used it for every playthrough ever since.
If you add alchemy into the mix you can become incredibly overpowered with enchanting without any glitches
thought foxskin said foreskin, had me in the first half fr
man you are a genius 👏
thank you
I saw the alteration skill tree skill book and instantly knew; TRANSMUTE ORE SPELL
This is THE way I create my builds fast, combined with the alchemy glitch and selling the items i made for bartering levels
This is literally how I have been grinding smithing and enchanting. Bonus fact, banish dadra enchantment is the most valuable enchantment for weapons, and showes up at vendors at level 23 I believe
I've been doing this for years. I told my friends about it. They now all do it on every play through. My fiance even does it now!
Figured this one out in my first play through and have used it to level up in the early game ever since.
