For Web browsing and social media 4g is more than fast enough, even 10 years for now. If you wanted to watch 8K video then you would need 5g. But who is going to watch 8k video on a phone, the screen is too small to notice the difference between 4k and 8k. As for download times nobody downloads movies any more, the whole world streams them and 4g is fast enough to stream.
The only reason I would upgrade from a 4G capable phone to a 5G phone would be if I had a better phone connection, as in a building parking structure or in an elevator, where phone calls usually drop or are nonexistent. I had mistaken 5G for a technology that would enhance phone signal capabilities. Speed is not essential for me at this point.
AT&T LTE is wonderful. Definitely wait until you hear of C-band 5G being deployed in your area or somewhat widespread. That will be fast midband 5G that Verizon and AT&T will catch T-mobile with. End of 2021 the top 50 markets get deployments started on Verizon, not sure when AT&T will do it.
We need 5g to lower latency , but seriously we don't need eye popping 1gbps on phone . instead of speed network operator , should focus on bigger network coverage
With the cost of phones steadily climbing. Paying less is more and more attractive. And it seems that MM works on older phones that ATT is ditching. Keep your phone and pay less per month. So some things to recognize are. When 4G came in, I stayed on 3G until it was discontinued. What I noticed was the more people who moved to 4G the faster the 3G became. My biggest concern is can I stream my videos if I need to. That and maybe share a hotspot. I often times never use hotspot, and it seems that in those times that I do want to use it, I have no cell signal and can’t. I think it’s called life. So anyway. As always, when 5G came out, the service cost more. Taking from what I learned from 3G and I don’t use 5G on my capable devices. Anything I have that is 5G capable I turn it off and use only 4G. Cricket some years back bumped our data up to 8mbps download. And it remained there for I don’t know how long. Today my Cricket download speeds are averaging 50 to 60mbps. My monthly cost for service has not changed. On MM with 5G turned off my average download speeds at home are 70 mbps, yah I’m in a bad area, (update, recently my MM speeds have improved and are averaging about 60 to 70 mbps) but when I go to work my speeds go to about 140 to 160mbps depending on location. For some out there neither of these services speeds are acceptable but for the overwhelming majority of the population, these are faster speeds than they will ever use to potential. When I first signed up on Cricket Core it was 3mbps and that was more than fast enough for my needs. All these years later that is still true. I’ve been on a multitude of different MVNOs in the last 10+ years and I’ve learned a few things. First, if the MVNO is not a GSM service, keep walking. 1. Phones that don’t use SIM cards to set up aren’t worth having. 2. Contracted plans are overly expensive and just a way to imprison you to said service. Never sign a contract. 3. The industry is always changing, and especially today, plans are always changing for the better from one MVNO to the other, not getting locked in to a contract allows you to move quickly from one service to another until you find one that is right for you. And then you can sign that contract.😂😂 Or just stick with the MVNO that works best and save lots of money. iPhone 10 was the root of the next phase in iPhones. Keep in mind, iPhone ten and iPhone 8/8+ are the same hardware except for Touch ID/Face ID. These are the biggest hardware differences. Swipe/gesture vs home button functions also come in here. But there is very little difference between the 10 and the 10s/+ and if you have these devices upgrading to a new device is still not an optimal solution. As more people migrate to 5G, 4Glte will get faster and faster. It was true for 3g to 4G. And I’ve seen it happen on 4G to this day. I don’t use 5G on my 5G capable devices and on ATT I’m bordering 90mbps regularly, and TM is 60+mbps. Faster speeds than the majority of users will ever need.
The funny part is, these 5G maps are all overstated, not just because the carriers already do that, but a lot of "5G coverage" is really just the upper layer indicator (the logo on the top of the phone) with no actual NR activated. That little blotch in East Central NY (Albany, NY area) is completely false for Verizon. Only a couple of the sites actually have 5G, the rest are a fake logo. And we have one single Ultra Wideband node, which was pretty cool to see.
I live in Central NY and there is no 5G with Verizon post or prepaid. They dont know when it will come. It's been 2 years how is the other carriers able to get 5G in my town but not the biggest carrier in the country
I have a 5G phone and a 5G plan. Yet no 5G near me or in my town. Verizon doesn't even know when it will come here. When I had t mobile and Google Fi I had 5G. I don't mind using 4G LTE cause it's still fast but I had 5G and was impressed. But I was so confused why Verizon didn't have it
I'm from Philippines. 1mbps is enough for me to do almost everything: downloading light files, netflix, youtube, and google search. 5G is like an icing on a cake that doesn't exist.
I may stick with my Note 10+. I've been w/ Xfinity Mobile (Verizon network) since they started.. The good thing with Xfinity is, you don't pay more for 5g. I used to get 64Mbps down & now I'm getting over 100 down on LTE! 5g not available where I live. 100Mbps? That's fast enough for me to stream my movies & vids.
What ppl do with 1gb of data transfer per sec? Seriously? I think only something like city traffic management, Tesla ai auto drive would use something like this. Most ppl don’t even need it, get what you only need.
Another incredible video Sherri! Personally months after picking up the iPhone 12 Pro I’m of mixed feelings about it don’t get me wrong I love the phone but “5G” ... I’m 50/50 about it..... Let me explain I use LOTS of Data per month I stream quite a bit personally and as a professional, I’m in international finance, and “5G” doesn’t really “help” with either security or true speed of actually performing any “real” tasks. I’ve done trades on my previous phone and my new phone there isn’t any real noticeable difference also streaming I haven’t noticed a real difference between LTE and 5G “I’m excluding 1080p 60 frames or 4K video if your mobile plans include streaming in these resolutions than you will notice a difference”. 1 thing I will say is 5G abroad on American phone plans doesn’t exist in any real way yet, I’ll admit some plans include it as a “feature” but actually using 5G instead of getting bumped to LTE when actually trying to use data heavy apps or services is almost impossible even with the T-Mobile 50GB international plan + T-Mobile Max as your monthly domestic plan you get bumped to LTE (I can provide you the specific countries if you’d like). As for my case for using 5G is my car hands down I own a Tesla Model 3 and I think 5G will be key in the actual large-scale implementation of truly autonomous driving. Sorry about the length of my comment I hope it helps someone. Thank you so much for creating such amazing content, Sherri!

Yeah, but 5G requires way more base stations so they can triangulate you to within inches, and that's a selling point right???
