I also have ankylosing spondylitis. I started having back problems over 6 years ago, and I stopped skateboarding about 5 years ago. I didn’t know then that I had AS. I really want to get back into skateboarding, I can't live without it. For all 5 years I wanted to skate but was terribly afraid. I was recently diagnosed with AS and thought it was the end and I would never be able to skateboard. I'm very glad I saw your video. It helped me understand that life is not over. I can still do what I enjoy. Spencer's story inspired me to take my health and fitness more seriously. I hope I can start skateboarding again soon =) Thank you!
I'm dealing with chronic pain myself and Spencer's story is very inspiring. Bouncing back from something like that is so so impressive and I have gained a huge amount of respect on top of what I already had. Thank you so much for sharing this. I hope one day I can get back to skating and maybe do some fakie frontside flips in honour.
Took me 3 years to get diagnosed cause doctors wouldn’t listen to me, by then I had irreversible damage, I really want to do skateboarding though, even just to cruise/travel, but idk what board to get that will be gentle on my AS (I’m currently walking with a cane most days so I def need stability if I want to start)
I mean there doesn’t have to be a family history or something to get it but yes it’s a chronic illness that can cause progressive damage and it’s incurable rn

Big up
Wow, i love just all the looped archival footage all in one video! Great interview as well, thanks 🙏
I thought it was a genetic degenerative disease more than an injury
Yes, ankylosing spondylitis is an incurable degenerative disease : / ...my whole body hurts every single day and i'm only 33 years old.
