The point of the coin having heads on both sides is that Harvey is in control of the situation. He tells Batman that he wouldn't put that man's life to chance and he wasn't, because the coin would never be on the side that would get that man killed.
The joker gave Batman the locations of Rachel and Harvey dent but he gave him the opposite directions ... so he would get Harvey instead of Rachel.... hoping to get Batman to go on a crazy murderous rage
The whole movie is about duality of man and the choices people have between doing good and doing evil. The Joker believes that everyone has a breaking point where the bad side of people will come out if pushed enough. He desparately wanted Batman to hit him with the bike because Batman has one rule: no killing and by hitting him with the bike, Batman would break his one rule. He pushed Harvey Dent enough where The White Knight (the best of all of us) did break and become Two-Face and the burnt side of the coin represented the darkness had broken through. The boat scene was the Joker testing ordinary people if they would kill other people when pushed to the limit. As the one passenger said "they had their chance" (in society), but in the end the good prevailed. And even the criminals showed that there was good in them when the remote was thrown off the boat. Batman has dual personalities, respectable billionaire by day, vigilante by night. Joker says that he and Batman are the same because they are controlled by their dark nature, but the differentiation is Batman's one rule which keeps him falling completely into darkness.

@@MairSophie that one's def worth watching, kinda sad TDK's popularity overshadows batman begins tbh. and the dark knight rises, the last movie in TDK trilogy is worth watching as well. and if yall wanna check out a more recent batman film, the batman (2022) is an amazing one, as good if not better than TDK for me!
That skyhook thing. The way Batman escapes from the building in Hong Kong with Lau? 100% real. That's something they actually developed. You can see the same thing at the end of the 1965 James Bond movie Thunderball..
When this movie came to theaters I went and saw it the first few days and PACKED theater. The sounds in the movie were extra loud giving that Cinematic Christopher Nolan experience!
