heath wore prosthetic for the scares on his face and when he would move his mouth to talk overtime the prosthetic glue would dry and fall off making him go to the trailer and spend 20 minutes putting them back on and heath got tired of that so what heath decided to do was lick his lips alot this way would keep the moisture in place and would not fall off but also add a weird and creepy vibe to his character as well.
I read somewhere that Maggie wasn’t aware of how Heath was going to play the joker. She was actually terrified during that scene with him holding the knife to her face and telling the story of his “wife”
Michael Caine also wasn't prepared beforehand, and even was supposed to have a line when Joker steps into the room but was so surprised that he forgot to talk and they just kept filming.
people have tried to debunk that, talking about the actors having to practice their lines together and all before shooting. I had to tell them that that works for practicing for a stage play. movies are made entirely different, where the actors don't always practice together before filming. I have been in a couple of indie films myself, and I never met my co-stars until the day we met on the set and started filming! it just depends on people's schedules. I knew my lines, they knew their lines, the camera pointed, started rolling, and we were acting our parts.
And so was Michael Caine. He hadn’t even seen him in makeup when he came into the scene and Michael actually forgot his lines. It actually worked well with him being speechless so they kept it in

I think that is one of the first times I’ve actually seen you momentarily speechless at the end of a movie reaction! One of my friends called me when they first announced they were updating the Batman movies. Not because I was a huge Batman fan but because I’ve been a HUGE Christian Bale fan since he was 12 years old. I’d talked about him forever and she knew I’d be excited over his casting. THIS movie came out and I KNEW Heath had stolen the movie from Christian. He was truly amazing in this role!
I understand Heath Ledger is a hard act to share a spotlight with. But Aaron Eckhart really deserves props for his portrayal of Dent. He was amazing in both his roles.
I read that he licked his lips like that because of the prosthetic that made the scars, but still very much added to the character! Also, a fun fact, the older gentleman who confronts the Joker at the party before Rachel steps in is a US Senator, Patrick Leahy, who is a huge Batman fan
The Joker tossing out that glass of champagne represents how he is portraying this crazy, fun loving, pyscho, but he dumps it out because behind it all is a calculating mind with a plan.
39:50 My absolute fav part of this movie that wasn’t shown so u have to assume. Harvey flipped heads and Joker looked at him to see if he would obey his own rules to which he did. From that moment he knew he had Harvey.
What a joy to watch a father son duo experiece the dark knight for the first time!! My sons 4 and i cant wait to watch this with him when hes a teenager. Great reacrion subbed 👍
The great thing Nolan did with Batman franchise is he took out the super natural but very much stay true to the soul of the comics. Scarecrow was terrifying villain, Ra's Al Ghul though lesser known villain before movies was Batman's true evil counter part, just as gifted and dangerous. Two Face was finally given respect he deserve with his fascinating back story and how he became what he is today. And Joker always being the foil to Batman that no matter how many times they clash the Joker wins because he will never stop and Batman will never kill him. And with the last movie coming up Bane is finally feared for good reason in comics as one of the few villains that actual beat Batman.
I saw you responded to the comment about Maggie not knowing how Heath was going to play Joker but that wasn't all of it. It was also the first time she saw him in the makeup when they started the scene and it wasn't scripted that he grabs her, he improvised that so yes she was genuinely scared of him when shooting it.

That extract method Batman used in Hong Kong (with the balloon that gets grabbed by a plane) was a real extraction method developed in the 50s for the CIA called the Fulton surface-to-air recovery system (STARS), also known as Skyhook. The CIA and different US special ops units used it as a method of extraction deep behind enemy lines. It seems a bit far fetched, so finding out it was real and actually used is just kinda wild to me lol

Hey guys, you both are awesome!! A fun fact for you there is a video where a psychiatrist who specializes in dealing with dangerous people watched this movie and the part where Joker tells the story of the scars in the pool hall with his father the psychiatrist is completely certain this is 100% a genuine story the way Joker looked up as he’s speaking shows signs of remembering something painful and intense!! One little fact about Rachel's death is that when the joker tells batman where her and dent are, he actually switched the addresses to basically make him chose which one to kill instead of save
And what a wonderful film it is 😂😂😂 Do you think the rise of AI will make it possible for us to replace George Clooney and Val Kilmer with Michael Keaton?
The Dark Knight is just insanely good and ranks among the best comic book movies. And Heath’s performance as the Joker is phenomenal. He absolutely earned that Academy Award. 10/10
The joker's scars story changes to keep the illusion of the mystery behind the character's past. No one really knows how he got them but it adds the the depth to the character and tension.
Given how much the dad was giggling like a little schoolgirl through this, you'd think Christopher Nolan directed the greatest super-hero comedy flick.
The beauty of this movie, is that everyone came for Batman, but Heath Ledger as Joker stole the show… so much so that he won an Oscar for the role, tragically he passed before then, but his family accepted his award. I remember I was one of the many who was scratching their head wondering why Nolan picked Ledger to be Joker. Once the first trailer was released we couldn’t have been more wrong. I was too young to appreciate the work Ledger had already done. Wonderful actor and I wish we could have seen more from him. RIP
The spilling the champagne is one of the best details. Topped only maybe by the jokers finger on the fireng pin while holding Harvey's gun to his head. By spilling the champagne it lets him look like he's so relaxing he's drinking on the job and so wild He's spilling it everywhere, but in reality its a way to stay stone cold sober. Lord of the Rings and this Batman Trilogy are two of the greatest trilogies ever made. If not, #1 and #2. Some of the best quotes, ever, in these two trilogies too! “Some men aren’t looking for anything logical…some men just want to watch the world burn.” “Madness is like gravity; all it needs is a little…push!” “You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”
Yep it was always a thing with Two Face, he had a coin he would flip to make all his crucial decisions. And yes, Tommy Lee Jones played him in Batman & Robin in the 90's. His character was excellent in the Batman Animated Series too.
Its my opinion that the Joker custom-designs his origin story to terrify the person he's talking to. 1.)His origin was about a nightmarish father when talking to mobster Gambol, b/c, statistically, Gambol probably came from a fatherless broken home which helped direct him to a life of crime and in his heart of hearts Gambol would have liked to have a father. Moral of Joker's story: "fear your dreams., son" 2.)His origin about a woman robbed of her beauty which destroys her marriage was for Rachel, a woman beautiful enough to engage a good and important man. If she loses her beauty will her life be destroyed, too? If so, her beauty is her cage and time is her jailer. Moral of Joker's story: "fear your dreams, pretty lady."
The reason Heath licked like that was actually because the prosthetic on his face wound keep falling off, and he would lick to put it back in place, and it became part of his character.
They say De Niro would spend many hours staring at a crab or something to prepare for his next role. I think Ledger spent hours staring at a ten year old boy for this role. (Or at least footage of one.)
I believe Nolan discredited that. I don't remember where exactly I heard him bring it up but I think he said the explosion was meant to delay for safety reasons to prevent accidental injury.
Great reaction. To me this was not only the best Batman movie (even of Nolan's trilogy) but Heath was incredible, his portrayal of the Joker was epic. It'd be great if you could watch/react to the movie Joker, with Joaquin Phoenix, not to compare it because that's impossible but also to enjoy how great of a performance he did with the character
I’m sorry…but Kev…did you call him “Batrat” towards the end when you said something like “oh they’re gonna blame it all on Batrat”. That took me out!! Haha. So funny. If you didn’t, you should just admit you did. Cus that was hilarious. Thanks for the videos 😊 And yes you are correct about Tommy Lee jones playing two-face in Batman forever ‘95. Also starring Jim (James) Carrey.
I feel like your son was genuinely disturbed throughout a lot of the joker scenes. I don’t blame him, heath really managed to bring the joker to life in a way I never expected the first time I watched in 2008. I was 11
This version of the Joker, is so relatable, if you’ve been through pain in your life. Just as with every hero and villain story, they’re usually two sides of the same coin…they just chose two different paths to deal with the pain. Joker wanted destruction and Batman wanted goodness. Most of us, end up choosing a path closer to the Joker than to Batman; It’s why he’s the hero…someone who we’ll never actually be, but wish we were.
A lot of the things Heath did/say or how he said it, was improvised or asked to be changed by him. If the director (hope that’s the right word) had gotten his way, the freezer scene would have looked somewhat different. When Heath went up to “Rachel” that was the first time (that’s what I’ve heard) that she actually saw Heath with the makeup on, so that was actual fear you witnessed on the screen. And the final thing I know of, is the hospital, once Heath pressed the button on the remote, the entire hospital was going to blow up (they actually blew up a real building for that scene so they only had one chance) but all of the charges didn’t go off, so Heath stood around and kept pushing buttons, and that’s the scene you saw in the movie. Once everything started blowing up, he rushed on the bus and the scene continued
The hospital explosion scene was meticulously planned, and they practiced it 12 times before they shot it. Not improv. The director explained it in an interview.
The scene where Joker failed to blow up the hospital was completely improved, they had trouble detonating the explosives on cue and decided to keep the improv in R.I.P Heath Ledger
Not true. The director explained it in an interview. It was meticulously planned that way, as a safety measure, and they practiced it 12 times before they shot it.
"That's really good acting by Maggie Gyllenhaal. She just didn't seem to like that at all." That's because she didn't :P until that take, she hadn't known what Heath was going to look like in full costume, nor (as others already mentioned) that he was going to grab her and stick the knife right in her face. She was in fact scared. Same for Michael Caine. You see him just turning his head and staring at Heath as the Joker enters through the elevator... Michael actually had a line he was supposed to say but he was so genuinely in awe he forgot to say the line.
When Joker was giving Batman the addresses to where Rachel and Harvey were being held, he switched up who was where because he knew Batman would go for Rachel and he also knew this would be the tipping point for Harvey and would turn him into the villain he became, Two-Face. Also the scene when Joker blows up the hospital where he is walking out and things suddenly stop exploding was not on purpose. It was improvised because there was a malfunction with the explosives so he turned around and did the whole shoulder shrug then they started going off again and startled him.
@@SubterrelProspector I've seen a lot of reactors where it just goes right over their head because they're either talking or just didn't catch it and they're all confused after it happens. Just wanna make sure they caught it lol
The reason for the different stories "Joker" gave was cause Joker has no official backstory, as Joker says in one of the animated movies, Killing Joke, I think "If I'm going to have an origin, I'd prefer it be multiple choice!" While there is a lose canon, PARTIAL origin of Joker, which is he was once a failed comedian who had a wife, they were struggling horribly, she was pregnant and died, as did the kid, everything went south and the man who was, was no more, things happened and he turns into Joker. But in regards to who Joker was before he was Joker in any further detail, there is none. And it's by design.
When Michael Caine started talking about the diamond theif in Burma I was screaming at my phone "Shut up! SHUT UP! Listen!" It's like my favorite scene. "Oh he's talking about the Joker." Y...yes. That was the point of the monologue.
Fun fact the hospital stopped exploding midway, wasn't intentional, it was a technical issue, but heath ledger played it off so brilliantly that the director kept it in as was
im pretty sure it was planned, because you can see a clip here on yt, where he stops at a marker by the bus before slamming the detonator a couple of times!its a behind the scenes footage!
That’s not true. It was highly intentional and was a safety measure. They practiced the scene 12 times before they shot it. The director explained all of this in an interview.
That's the best vilain ever played right there...I I'm certain that noboby will ever top him...maybe they can get on his level...but never top him. RIP Heath Ledger.....the best of the best!

Nobody seems to notice that the banker is sitting on top of the money when Joker sets it alight.
If what I read was accurate, the part where the hospital detonator was malfunctioning was improv.
I believe Nolan discredited that. I don't remember where exactly I heard him bring it up but I think he said the explosion was meant to delay for safety reasons to prevent accidental injury.
Well, it was NOT accurate. ☺️The pause was meticulously planned, and they practiced the scene 12 times before they shot it.
Cant wait for you two to watch dark knight rises !!
(Inmate) “My insides hurt!”
(Louis) “That’s Taco Bell.”
😆😂🤣😂🤣😆💕✌️😂👍
Great reaction. To me this was not only the best Batman movie (even of Nolan's trilogy) but Heath was incredible, his portrayal of the Joker was epic. It'd be great if you could watch/react to the movie Joker, with Joaquin Phoenix, not to compare it because that's impossible but also to enjoy how great of a performance he did with the character
The dark knight rises is just as good. Tom hardy is amazing as bane!! Can’t wait to see ur guys reaction to it 😊
We can not wait also, i'm a big fan of Tom Hardy so should be awesome
@@SofaandChill oh trust me it is better than awesome 😝 x
Great movie. So awsome! RIP Heath Ledger ✊✊🕊🕊
Truly one of the greatest movies of all time and it never gets old
Absolutely still to this day a top 3 movie right there with revenge of the sith ❤️ you guys are so entertaining glad we got your reaction to this 🔥
Such an am,azing movie and easily into my top 10
@@SofaandChill what is your top 10 if you dont mind me asking?
I’m sorry…but Kev…did you call him “Batrat” towards the end when you said something like “oh they’re gonna blame it all on Batrat”. That took me out!! Haha. So funny. If you didn’t, you should just admit you did. Cus that was hilarious. Thanks for the videos 😊
And yes you are correct about Tommy Lee jones playing two-face in Batman forever ‘95. Also starring Jim (James) Carrey.
Hahaha I actually did and I laughed myself when I watched it back as forgot I said it! Thanks for letting me know it made you laugh :)
I feel like your son was genuinely disturbed throughout a lot of the joker scenes. I don’t blame him, heath really managed to bring the joker to life in a way I never expected the first time I watched in 2008. I was 11
The joker is the perfect villain in this. Charismatic, smart and unpredictable. His little mannerisms make him even more terrifying.
She just didn't seem to like that at all."
That's because she didn't :P until that take, she hadn't known what Heath was going to look like in full costume, nor (as others already mentioned) that he was going to grab her and stick the knife right in her face.
Pretty obvious if you watch the movie. The ol' switcheroo.
@@SubterrelProspector I've seen a lot of reactors where it just goes right over their head because they're either talking or just didn't catch it and they're all confused after it happens. Just wanna make sure they caught it lol
It seems like your son hit puberty in between uploads 😂
Ever danced with the devil in the pale moon light??? Jack Nicholson The Joker Batman The Movie
This movie blew me away.
Heath Ledger was the best Joker EVER !
I completely agree
The reason for the different stories "Joker" gave was cause Joker has no official backstory, as Joker says in one of the animated movies, Killing Joke, I think "If I'm going to have an origin, I'd prefer it be multiple choice!" While there is a lose canon, PARTIAL origin of Joker, which is he was once a failed comedian who had a wife, they were struggling horribly, she was pregnant and died, as did the kid, everything went south and the man who was, was no more, things happened and he turns into Joker. But in regards to who Joker was before he was Joker in any further detail, there is none. And it's by design.
... Did you really quote that crappy animated version of the masterpiece of comics that is the Killing Joke ?
@@Maxime_G You can be a die hard fanboy all you want, I enjoyed the animated movie and had NO problem with it.
21:10 who is dean fletcher?
great reaction!
When Michael Caine started talking about the diamond theif in Burma I was screaming at my phone "Shut up! SHUT UP! Listen!" It's like my favorite scene.
"Oh he's talking about the Joker."
Y...yes. That was the point of the monologue.
That scene always gives me goosebumps and his take on the joker / jewel thief is later realised when he burns his pyramid of money
Heath Ledger is the only actor in history to play the joker right. ❤❤❤ terrifying!
It’s one of the best sequels ever.
And of course, Heath Ledger. There will never be a better Joker ❤
Awesome reaction of my favorite Batman movie!!!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you my friend and it was truly epic :)
whats the music you used in the intro
I'll check and get back to you
29:11 they actually did this stunt in real. Cause Nolan doesn't like CGI and prefer real stunts.
Nice to see some north-east content! Amazing film, amazing ending
I agree...Darth Vader is still my favorite villain overall, but Heath Ledger had the best portrayal of a classic villain ever.
lol! Sorry, but-I was just wondering how long it's been since your son's voice dropped! xD
One of the worst and most jarring actress changes that nobody asked for or wanted, and yet this movie is still almost perfect. It speaks to how well it was written and performed.
One of my top 10
Fantastic film, but you have got to see this in IMAX. I fly to London to the BFI IMAX everytime they have this on show. Last year they had a movie marathon with the Dark Knight trilogy. Fantastic movie. Heath Ledger only got to see the first 6 mins of the opening bank robbery scene. He loved it so much he asked to see it again 😊
He didn't really improvise the lines, but all of the mannerisms and physicality were made up by Heath Ledger.
Thanks, Kev! Thanks, Lewis! 🦇
