#soprannotes #yebba #octobersky - เพลง
October Sky builds a quiet symphony around a particularly potent memory of Yebba’s mother-a high school science teacher who sometimes brought home the bottle rockets her students had constructed for class. “I wrote this whole story about remembering her sliding down the hall and telling us ‘Come outside we’re shooting off bottle rockets,’” Yebba explains. “That memory came to me and the words just spilled out: this story of her and the promise that she broke, in a way, because she killed herself in October. I genuinely feel like she was standing there in the room with me as I was writing it, in my studio apartment in Brooklyn.”
Wow this comment was so beautifully written! I had no idea about the backstory of this song. Thank you! It’s very enlightening
And to give more insight -- her mother committed suicide so knowing that you can hear the emotion more clearer and it gives a better understanding as to who she is a person and artist.
I love the comment you posted Gerald Herm.
That is gut-wrenching and beautiful all at the same time.
Goosebumps
She's hasn't been appreciated enough. She deserves our attention.
Yes she does!
@@jessicasopranonotes yes she does
Her tiny desk session is legendary
The way she sings 'butter knife' just blows me away every single time I hear it
Yebba makes my soul smile. So grateful for her.
so beautifully said!
Really intriguing song, I really loved how she handled the phrase October Sky that first time. I could see the rocket going up. She is painting pictures with words and the video is helping to illuminate the story being told. Yebba's mother was mentally ill and committed suicide. You can feel the anguish in her cries after mentioning her mother. Those rockets keep shooting up and falling.
Yebba has won a Grammy I think a few years ago.
You’re absolutely right! This is such a beautiful song. So well written and sung!
Her talents are incredible and I am thrilled to hear she has a Grammy!
@@jessicasopranonotes she has another song with mark ronson, called “don’t leave me lonely”. You don’t haver to react to it but you most definitely should add it to ur playlist lol. It’s beautiful !!
I bugged out when she started singing a random phrase from Alone by Heart at the end there. It made me think it was a cover and question my life Ahaha
The magic with yebba is her vocal agility, she allows her to go into all registers, she is a virtuoso of notes.
Beyond the pure technique, it is the emotion conveyed in his songs that touches us, to me it touches me.
Well done for your comments and clarifications ... And we look forward to yebba's album.
Kisses from France
👍🇫🇷😘🎶🎵
I completely agree with you! And thank you 😊
Dear Santa: I know I'm a bit early, but - if you please, kind sir, what I really want this year is to witness Jess react to Yebba's Tiny Desk Concert please and thank you. 🎅🙏
Oh, my God. It is... I mean... you will... I can't. 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
She’s definitely famous now. Drake gave her an entire track to herself on HIS new album. Then she dropped her album. Her music is healing. also her mother killed herself in the month of October.
she deserves adeles status.
Please god know it would ruin her?
She has it in my eyes.
I enjoy YEBBA much more than Adele. Adele has become a star while YEBBA still has that vulnerability. Love her.
oohh yesss! i’ve been obsessed with this song since it came out! she is insanely talented!! i hear something new i like each time i listen, love her choices 💙
Me too!! 💙
Masterclass… that a what this is for me, oh Jess, the way you explain all the techniques and skills of this amazing singer and musician! Wow! Yebba is a beast!!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️❤️❤️
Esteban you said everything!
I love how much you love Yebba. I love her too!
I 💙 her!
The studio version is amazing too. Different, but amazing.
Also, this song is very much about her mother who died by suicide a few years ago. A lot of emotion about this can be seen in the SoFar video of My mind.
I hear a Joni Mitchell influence in the vocal style and songwriting. It very much appeals to me.
Yes very much her and maybe Buffy Saint-Marie
I thought the same thing she does remind me of Joni Mitchell at certain time but there are just so many places she takes her voice. I can't stop listening to her.
The live version on electric lady is even better
I am OBSESSED with Yebba! I have listened to her new album on repeat to and from work and then again when I get there since the day it was released. Whenever I get into my TH-cam scrolling phase, I look for people’s reactions to her genius just to see what their take is and how they feel about her artistry and it confirms how great she is for me all over again. I usually watch the reactions and maybe like one every once in awhile. But you are the one I have subscribed to! The way you’ve described it all is so right so supporting your channel was easy to do! You’re fabulous and you look beautiful doing it! 💜 (And if you haven’t watched her Tiny Desk, stop what you’re doing and watch it immediately!)
Her voice wraps me in a warm Yebba blanket. Just beautiful. ❤️
This song stays on repeat
Totally love your reaction. I'm a 57 year old classic rocker and I can't get enough of her. I'm so glad you see and hear how amazing she is.
I love hearing undiscovered talent. Especially when it's this good and your analysis is spot on with those transitions along with those words painting such a picture in my mind. Yebba has just gained a new fan thanks to you :)
I’m so glad I was able to introduce you to Yebba! She’s incredible, your comment makes me happy 😊
A yebba tiny desk reaction would be amazing!! I love your analysis!!
I love how you help us to understand the technical brilliance of Yebba. Please react to her "Evergreen"---she's amazing!!
you are my favorite musical performance analysis reactor EVER! Yebba is one of the most talented people in the whole entire game.
update: please react to Lianne La Havas. she is vastly under appreciated and my absolute favorite singer period.
Yebba is a marvelous singer-songwriter. I luv💜 this song it's in-depth & heart touching. Its a shame that she's underrated. She deserves more love and appreciation. Now I am obsessed with this song.🎶
Yebba has, since 2016, done quite a lot of collaborations... duets, back up, with everyone from Mark Ronson to Ed Sheeran to Mumford and Son... She has a video with Snoop Dog. She won a Grammy (which doesn’t necessarily gain you fans). She’s just coming into her own. She’s young. 26 I think. She’s gaining attention. Her first album drops next month, which this gorgeous song is on. Don’t worry, she’s doing well.
Thanks for reacting to this song/video: it’s so beautiful and you helped me understand her vocal abilities.
i love how detailed your analysis is!! yebba is so underrated, her musicianship blows my mind
Interesting how the last verse incorporated the verse from the Heart song of how do I get you alone( til now I always got by on my own, I never really cared until I met you)
Her tiny desk concert just came out. Please check it out and react to a song or two.
Also if you have not seen it I would love for you to watch Durand Bernarr singing "The Way" live at Taco Tuesday. The newest version. There are two and the newer one is special.
My father passed 2 years ago October 23rd … my birthday is the 14th.. the visuals and vocals in this song invoke the feeling of October in my region as far as the feeling and the song just is felt personally by me. I feel her pain and her attempt at getting by. So talented
OOOOOH, the way this song is my JAMMMMMMM?!?! Love Yebba and LOVE this analysis!!
I’m soooo glad I found your channel! Your analysis is SO thorough. I love how you pick out such small details and really appreciate the intricacies of what a artist does! ❤️🌈
Thanks Jason! ☺️☺️☺️
lol @ me constantly rewinding on top of your rewinding 😂
I love Yebba!
Def suggest Pablo Nutini’s Iron Sky. Such a great emotion and story telling.
You go in depth about things most of the voice teacher reactor type people don't and offer such great insights. I'd love to hear your analysis of So Hyang's performances of Arirang or Everyone they're both crazy.
I’ve got Sohyang Everyone coming up within the next several weeks! Stay tuned 😊
She reminds me of Seal singing, Kiss from a Rose.
Also she put me in the mind of James Taylor...James can take you on a ride, wow
I love the idea of reactions & performance analysis of newer unknown artists 🤘
Thank you!
Never realized that the ending sounds like a quote from Heart Alone..."till now I've always got by on my own, i never really cared until I met you! Very interesting ❤
An amazing analysis. Finally!!
I’m coming back to this reaction A LOT. The way you analyses this live performance just makes me so happy. I love when people digging deep to find the details other people don’t.
I bet we all love when others loves the artist as much as we do😩
This was so educational! Thank you :-)
Really wonderful reaction video. Informative and honestly felt. Really lovely and enjoyable. Very fond of Yebba. I find everything she does speaks to what you appreciated in this one.
I really like Yebba, and I really like Heart. So it's a win-win for me.
I was so stupidly excited when she started singing Heart, tbh.
You should definitely do KAMAUU!!!! and thank you for your brilliance
New Yebba NPR Tiny Desk performance for her new album “Dawn” release!!!
th-cam.com/video/aBMGvHHkr9Y/w-d-xo.html
Enjoying her tone like Cynthia Erivo to my ears, very soothing and pleasant. Draws attention to the story she's telling. Discovered Dimash Unforgettable day & Love is like a dream. Want to hear your analysis of the D8 in Unforgettable day and persona in Love is like a dream.
I haven't heard her since My Mind. this is incredible! she is even better now.
I really adore your reactions bc it's not only about technique but also a sensitive way to describe your feelings about that song. keep going
Glad to see someone reacting to other songs by Yebba than the usual.
Oh, PLEASE do Shea Diamond as part of this series. Her voice and her songwriting are so powerful.
She is amazing!!
Yes indeed!
always love your videos
I appreciate that!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REACTING
Absolutely!
Love your channel! I love learning from you! You would love Lisa Hannigan singing Undertow.
Beautiful ❤️
Yessss!
This was an excellent analysis! I hope youre planning on breaking down her Tiny Desk performance!
cleary her inperation is Federico Lorka ,in the collection of poems...Poet in NY
Her mother committed suicide in October and this song provides a memory of her shooting bottle rockets and telling Abbey (yebba's real name) and her brother to come outside and watch. She wants around in town and thinks of that time and that she shoots bottle rockets almost as high as her spirit flies above. Such beatiful song writing and singing. If you were listening closer she quoted the Heart song "Alone" as her bridge into the final part of the conclusion. I love this girl's voice. So awesome that she's finally getting some really top end work. She deserves it more than most "singers" in the billboard radio charts.
You need to check out Yebba singing Boomerang live. So good!!!
youve GOTTA react to victory brinker's agt audition!! i dont wanna give much away but its incredible and right up your alley lol
The story is about her mom she said who died suddenly. Her mom was depressed and committed suicide in their family home.
She said after her song "MY MIND" she took her life.
Her mom could sing as well .. very talented family.
SO SAD
One week after the SoFar show, one that would set her professional career in motion, Smith's mother tragically took her own life in her family's West Memphis home. In the aftermath, Abbey changed her name to Yebba (i.e., Abbey spelled backwards, one of her mom's nicknames for her).
If you are looking for other artists who are up and coming, please consider Spencer Day. He's incredible. He was asked to write a song for a James Bond movie and he wrote "Mystery of You" which charted and made it on the commercial radio stations. Another song was chosen for the movie, "Skyfall" by Adele.
He covered "High Hopes" with Post Modern Jukebox and he writes lots of original stuff. "Chateau Marmont" is one of my favorites- it's a haunting song just like the hotel.
Please react to Remember the Day - Shoshana Bean.
Please react to Mona Lisa by So Hyang!! Please please. You can't see her face because she's only performed it on the Masked Singer but trust and believe it is an out of this world vocal display. Please Jess!!! I would love to hear your opinion on that perfomance so bad!
you should do tori Kelly in this series!! love yebba
Hello, can you do a reaction sbout the Philippine Madrigal Singers performing "Eres Tu" or "Izar Ederrak" chappel perfomances?
Please react to Moses Sumney
I can hear Joanne newson a lot in this song who is also a brilliant artist
isnt that legato in voice and staccato in the guitar? I love you btw!
Please react to Yebba’s My Mind!!
please react to My Mind by Yebba
Powerhouse
Please... Please... Look into Geoff Tate of Queensryche... in particular: Silent Lucidity, Take Hold of the Flame (Live in Japan is Unreal!), Anybody listening!
I'm really curious if you think he was Classically trained! I've asked many reactors... with no answer yet!
The best reaction I've found is from Mike Goodrich, at least he attempted to cover Take Hold of the Flame tune!
I'm Certain you can do better!!!
(PS What does he mean by overtones!?)
Please react to marcelito pomoy "THE PRAYER " wish bus you will be shock you will love his performance
The absence of the word "sky" represents, I think, the absence of her mother, a woman who took herself out of the world. Imagine living without the sky and I think that's what was taken from Yebba.
🥺
A long time American singer-songwriter that has always been under appreciated. I hope you'll react to:
