Brother ScanNCut Tips & Tricks - Direct Cut vs Scan to Cut Data - Sending Hearts Paper Pumpkin Kit

  • In this Brother ScanNCut Tips and Tricks tutorial you will learn the how to use the Direct Cut and Scan to Cut Data features of the SDX125. The stamp set we are using is from the January 2021 Paper Pumpkin Kit - Sending Hearts. Most of these features are available in any model of ScanNCut you are using. Throughout the Brother Scan and Cut tutorial, I compared the capabilities and limitations of each feature. Direct Cut is used to cut stamped images or patterned paper. You can create an offset or outline distance and cut additional layers by switching out the paper on the mat. Scan to Cut Data is used when you want to save the outline or the inside and outside lines of the stamped image or patterned paper you are scanning. Once you save the cutting data to your machine and then retrieve the file, you have a lot of options. You can duplicate the shape, resize it, rotate it and edit it in many ways. In the SDX models, you can also create offsets for both the inside and outside lines when you are using Scan to Cut Data.

    I use the direct cut a lot with the .04 outline around my stamped image. AND when I want a shadow of the same image. After I have done the direct cut of my stamped images I use the back arrow and adjust the outline to .08. I place my shadow cardstock in the exact location as the previous piece of cardstock (with the stamped images) and I select cut and it cuts the images in a bigger version. I then layer the 2 images. The important thing is you have to hit the back arrow and cut your shadows before your machine turns off. I am sure you know all this. But I felt like sharing. Thanks!

    • @PaperedChef
      @PaperedChef  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lisa, thanks for watching. With a shape like this, you would get a LUMPY edge. I should have mentioned that. It would be uneven if connected at all. A hot mess. You need a nice line to scan in order to recognize the shape. There are too many hearts in this stamp but I have loads of videos on cutting out stamped images. The multiple hearts is not one to scan and cut due to not having clear edges.

      You can only scan and cut the OUTLINE of the magazine image. I have shared how to cut patterned paper on my channel many times (check Play Lists) but that paper is delicate so you would have to lower the blade depth a LOT.

    Have you done a Udemy Course covering the how to cut data including the Enhanced Image Tracing?

    • @PaperedChef
      @PaperedChef  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Christine, I don't have the Enhanced Image Tracing functionality. It is not part of any of my courses. I would like to get the card. It was not readily available when I looked.

    Is it possible to duplicate the black scalloped border?

    • @PaperedChef
      @PaperedChef  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, of course Jan. You can duplicate what you scan in by using Scan to Cut data. Here is one of many tutorials I have on this topic. th-cam.com/video/uoCPcvFKEoQ/w-d-xo.html

    I know i have written you before about scan and cut sdx 125 and i know you have problems with your paper loading i can load the mat from the other end it is crazy.

    • @PaperedChef
      @PaperedChef  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bekki, the CM models of machines let you load the mats from both ends. The DX models only let you load the mat in one direction.

    thank you for your tutorials. I have some problems with my ScanNCut when I cut the stamps because the white border (around the image) is not perfect. it happens that the image is not really at the center and so, the white border is thinner in some part and wider in other. Does it happen to you too ?

      You are welcome Mascia. Oh yes, that happens a lot. That is why you need to do align your machine once in a while. Here is a tutorial. th-cam.com/video/8EVcwMewrWQ/w-d-xo.html

    with regards to scan to cut data, when using designs created by another designer/company, you can only do what you have done (scan to cut data), if those who produce the heart cards give specific permission, either in their copyright permissions, their angel policy or their Terms of Use, for it to be copied and stored on your machine - which they vary rarely do!. In doing what you have done, unless they have given permission for it, you have breached their copyright and are teaching others to do the same.... thats not legal. Its not your own original design....it belongs to another artist/creator and you should have definitely only have created your own heart within the machine. Just because you can do this with the machine, it does not give you the legal licence/copyright permission to do it....it comes under making a derivative work from someone elses property.
