Hey everyone, thanks so much for all the kind words and warm welcome back on my last video, it means a lot to me. I'm really excited to be making videos again and want to make them the best they can be, so uploads might be a bit slower this time around. I'm aiming for 1 video a week but like I said in my last video, I'm trying to maintain a healthy balance of creation and a personal life, so that might not always be achievable. These videos take a long time to make, from coming up with the idea, to the script writing, to the recording, getting in-game footage, the editing and so on. I want to be proud of my videos and will be spending extra time on them so that they can reach their full potential; I don't want to rush out videos every 2 days like I used to. I hope you are okay with this slower schedule. I think it will make me happier and less likely to burn out, which is important! Much love and I hope you enjoyed the video.
You are extremely well spoken and a great example of a top tier player in this game. I appreciate your videos and takes on things in this game and am glad you've decided to produce some XIV content. Best wishes!
@@MaDJaMXIII based on your comment history, all you do is leave negative comments on his videos. I hope you find happiness or at least something better to do with the use of your time. Best wishes!
Good video. My take on Tanks becoming more "damage-focused" is more that threat is no longer a party-wide responsibility. Stance-swapping in PUGs could have been a pain in the past if there wasn't a NIN or no one used Quelling Strikes, and since your greatest responsibility is to hold the boss, being in dps stance in anything that wasn't Warrior could go wrong. With all of that gone now, threat management practically doesn't exist anymore, so we entirely lose a "skill" of being a tank, which therefore allows us to just push out more damage. As to whether that is a positive or not, depends on the person. Personally, I feel if SE wants to push tanks to just be DPS with mitigation cooldowns, the rotations need to be significantly more complex to fulfill it.
I disagree about tank rotations being more complex - that won't do anything but make lower-skill tank players deal LESS damage. And while I'm all for 'making rotations more fun and interesting', if it comes at the expense of making the average DF tank do less damage, I don't consider that an acceptable trade. I do a lot of DF/PF content, so anything that lowers the damage floor will directly make my experience worse. They do need to do SOMETHING to make tank gameplay more interesting, but I don't think complicating the rotations is the answer.
i do miss warrios stance dancing. having said that, i just started playing again after 2 years. and instead of going right away to my main and repractice rotation, i made a paladin on another server and relearning everything again. im having a great time. and when im ready, i will come back to warrior for endwalker.
I feel a bit like the odd one out whenever everyone discusses Warrior. I kind of love it in this expansion because of how simple it is. I’m not having to rack my head around keeping up Gunbreaker combos or dance around stances so much, which means I can turn my attention to positioning and other mechanics, plus the big juicy heals are so satisfying and kind of a necessity due to the sporadic quality of healers in the Duty/Party Finder, or if that other tank is looking a bit wobbly. Filthy casual perspective though and I understand this is for a more competitive standpoint. I wouldn’t mind them adjusting it, but I hope it retains some of it’s simplicity.
I agree, i like war because of it's simplicity, on top of that the healing is insane. Also has the benefit of not needing healing after tank busters(if in OT position) and offsets a lot healing that the healer has to do over the course of a fight. As a example, i require 0 healing for 1st and 2nd tank buster in e12s p1. Pop holmgang, pop nascent, pop other heals and i'm at 100%. On top of that you can also help out with MT healing here and there, so it does have some utility. But this is not in optimized runs, so the benefits are probably less relevant in optimized runes.
@@Raigekon Yeah see this is what I want. I want a tank livelord that can carry crap player's mistakes. I play 3 mmos concurrently (this, WoW and GW2) and I need a simple tank that prevents wipes and hard carries in pugs. I'm here to get Landerwaffe in pugs and savage clear in static if I got time after. I care 0% about parses/speedruns. 0%. My dream is to find a static of players that are hellbent on killing a boss in as few PULLS/ATTEMPTS as possible, not as FAST PER ATTEMPT as possible. HUGE difference. Not here to waste time or jerk off to my parses.
@@Shuhannazy For the record I really hate this mentality. It infected my wow guild as well, we cleared a mythic (equal to savage level) boss with 5 healers in a group of 20 ppl. And now on farm reclears they are determined to 4 heal. I dont know why? healer parses? dps parses? jerk off at big numbers? leave the guild with said big #s to another guild that also recruits based off dumb #s? It took us SEVEN (7) wipes to clear a farm boss that we killed first time almost 6 or 7 weeks ago. I am confident that would have been 0-1 wipes otherwise. I know this is not a perfect parallel to this situation, b/c here we're not talking about 4 vs 5 healers, just tank healing vs tank dps. But I think some parts of it apply. gnb dps is useless if you are wiping to mechanics before the enrage. If gnb/pld lets u kill the boss 15-20 seconds sooner on a idk 6 min fight and by the time 5 min roll around all the dps have died and been rezzed once by a rdm, u got bigger problems.
Good to see you back! Loved the video, keep up the great work! Really good to see that you're working towards a healthy relationship with your work, best wishes!
So glad your back. I have been trying to increase my skill as a player as fast as I can. Main goal is to join a HC group for week 1 prog and ultimates. I find my self still coming back to some of your content for just some extra tips. Cant wait to see what else you put out. I know personally I would love to see how you prep for new raids or how your static preps. Also maybe just some fun little tips that you have come across to make someone a better player would be awesome as well.
I setup my hotbars the same as you have yours. I'm curious on why you placed actions in the places they are. Can you elaborate on it please. Thank you.
I'm a returning player and I didn't understand why people kept saying you can stay in tank stance. This video gave some very useful perspective on what I've missed. Thank you.
I feel Gunbreaker design for being a squishy but big DPS tank feels alil off when you consider they're not actually that squishy Aurora in its full duration is a pretty great heal especially in prog when you mess up or get ressed during an intense mechanic, paired with Camoflauge you can kind of delete auto attack damage in most savage fights comfortably. Its brutal shell is also severely underated because if you plan accordingly you can have a brutal shell get auto attacked and replaced by another brutal shell almost immediately. Brutal shell + Aurora + Heart of Stone on your main tank when GNB is OT is very valuable and competes with Paladin for being a support tank Its just a tank which had a specific vision it was going for then decided to be perfect in everything lol, especially lvl 70 ultimates where Gunbreaker can dish out ridiculous damage and metigation
Another reason Gunbreaker is good that I don't see implemented too much is that Superbolide placing them at 1hp means Limit Break will generate quicker when they're healed out of critical health. The increase to Limit Break meters passive generation is HUGE and when combined with White Mage's Benediction, it can be used even outside of dangerous situations purely for the Limit Break meter buff.
Real tier list coming through: TBN is the ultimate crutch so all the smooth brains play DRK. PLD and GNB have tiny swords. 🤏 WAR has a big axe and big pp. 😳
Warrior feels more like a berserker class than what it used to be. It can withstand so much while still pumping out fell cleaves. I wish they divorced that gameplay from DRK's delirium move. I feel like that just doesn't fit its kit very well.
Welcome back Tank-bro! For the most part I agree with your whole review. I have only a few points of disagreement I'd like to engage you on. 0) Aggro as a mechanic. At the beginning of the expansion, I would have largely agreed with you about the loss of aggro as a useful and fun mechanic. However, I've come around to the opinion that it was ultimately a good change. Playing close with aggro, keeping up your aggro through raw DPS, etc. was fun for tanks but really not much fun for other jobs. Previously, their aggro tools were "push these buttons on cooldown, or don't and your tanks have to care more." Not exactly the most engaging mechanics. Your point of not actually giving us more things to mitigate to compensate for the lack of aggro stands though. 1) Gunbreaker. GNB's damage *was* higher than the other tanks, however, I feel like you exaggerated a bit. Taking a look at FFLogs, all the tanks are highly clustered. Compared to previous expansions where the difference in damage was significantly wide between the tanks, I feel like not mentioning how balanced the tanks were damage wise is doing a bit of a disservice to your review. However, yeah. Gunbreakers are awesome and they did a great job with this class. As far as having to move the boss while doing your DPS combo... Just don't! DPS can adjust. ;P 2) Paladin. For context, I have been a Paladin main since 2.0 and it's my baby. I love the changes they made to Paladin. I initially thought I was gonna hate atonement but it came to be one of my favorite tools for fixing my rotation when I derp, which I do a lot. I love Veil, I love Passage of Arms, I love Cover, I love Intervention. *However,* Paladin is *still* the only tank without *any* self-sustain that doesn't cost DPS. Not to mention they nerfed block into the ground so hard that I legitimately feel bad for taking it into old content. That combined with their weakest-of-the-lot personal mitigation and it made me annoyed that "The guy with the shield" is the default *off-tank* role. I get it. We can't be the best at everything. Yet, Paladin being the #2 DPS tank while also bringing the most utility, mobility and the weakest personal mitigation just feels... Off. In retrospect, this isn't really a criticism of your review. Everything you said was good and correct and appropriate. However, I guess this is just another point of view of it not being exactly what *I* was hoping for. I think we both feel that WAR should be doing more DPS than PLD. And maybe it ought not feel objectively wrong for a WAR to OT while a PLD MTs. 3) Dark Knight. I really feel like you missed out on bringing up the loss of distinct flavor in rotation ("generification") that happened in Stormblood and Dark Knight is the prime example. What once was a balancing act of using your MP for offense and defense with Dark Arts became, well... Lame. Delirium became a knock off Inner Release. Dark Arts became the most annoying part of the DRK kit. I mean, really, you get punished for mitigation *too much* damage if TBN doesn't break. Abyssal Drain went from a fun dungeon spam spell to an after thought. To be one hundred percent frank, I think DRK's redesign was done haphazardly and folks just accept it because (a) TBN is that stupidly OP and (b) Fray is cool. Saying that DRK is a winner this expansion because they are the best defensively rings hollow to me because, well, they were *always* the best defensively. Yet previously they were the best defensively *and* had a fun and unique play style. 4) Warrior. Warrior got gutted and you did a great job explaining why. Another example is how their two "new" skills with Nascent Chaos are just reskins of Inner Beast and Steel Cyclone. Literally only Nascent Glint is actually, y'know, new. Everything else is just a buff to existing stuff. Even their big thing, Fell Cleave Spam, got "generified" over to DRK so they could do Bloodspiller spam. I don't have much more to add 'cause I think you nailed it here, sadly. Sorry for the novel, but well, I imagine you know what it's like to want to talk about tanking with other folks. :D
I don't really tank too much (BLM main) but it's always struck me as odd that PLD, the sword n board, totally invincible with the press of a button tank...is one of the highest dps and lowest mitigation tanks?? Just thematically it feels wrong. Maybe it'd be too strong for them to have the best personal mitigation and party support but as the holy knight of the bunch, that's normally what I'd expect. GNB having the highest dps over WAR also feels a little weird to me, but the reason people like GNB is bc of how fast it is so as a non-tank it's probably best for me to not think too much on that discourse.
The amount of nostalgia this video gave me nearly brought me to tears. I remember all too well the days of stance dancing as I also started back during HW and when I first fell in love with dark knight, hearing about all these changes that have occurred over the years and put into a constructive forum is really refreshing to hear and the trip down memory lane is very much appreciated. Thanks a ton Lynx! Keep up the great work and welcome back!
Very good video, I appreciate your opinions. Respectively I have a few different points. First of all, I don't think the DPS of 4 tanks is consequential, sure GNB has the highest DPS, but it's not like the other three are significantly lower than GNB. I mean, if you check the logs at the same percentile of 4 tanks, that's not much of a difference. It's all just what you can bring to the party and the person who's playing. Second, I think WAR is as tanky as DRK, just different kind of tanky, all the self sustained abilities can make your healers so happy (if used well). Third, WAR can be extremely useful for certain fights, because of holmgang has such a short cooldown, you can use one more invulnerability than other three tanks in some fights, that saves a lot of resources for your party and it's not as hard to heal as living dead, plus you can self heal quite a bit. The downside of WAR is, A. not sharing meta with other three tanks. B. WAR is immune to some party buffs, like the ones can buff direct rate or critical rate, at least can't make full use of those buffs. I can't remember the burst window of those jobs though, is it 90s/180s like WAR? I don't know. I do agree with your take on the overall tank situation in this expansion, your take on aggro management, etc. Good job, glad to see you produce contents!
Great to see you back. I still sometimes check how you play as tank and how your hotbar is setup and all. I got myself the same mouse you use and I've only binded the F1 to F11 keybinds on the keys and the last for = as my sprint button. I tried remapping everything before to 1-0 and using ctrl+shift etc, but I couldnt continue. I nearly got all classes 80 and I got drowned in information and redoing my hud..it was a painful thought x.x
Damn everytime I watch a video like this it makes me wish I jumped ship and played FF years earlier. Well, better late than never. Been playing a solid couple months now and I love it.
Would be great to have more end game youtube videos about raiding from other creators. Great stuff , 100% recommend for anyone wanting to get into raiding and be efficient. While being provided with the correct knowledge about each class compared, especially tanks.
Got a question popping into my head: When a War has the most self heal, wouldnt it rise the dps of the healers? Maybe you can clear this out to me ^^ thanks for the good content!
It absolutely does, but a healer gaining more damage from a warrior's healing is not equal to the damage you gain from replacing a warrior for a gunbreaker.
fun fact we duo phase 2 lvl sync Tsukuyomi with a dark and pal combo, I was the pal and the main tank was drk, the group for some unknown reason stack with the mt on the buster cleave, this was the 3 time in a row that it happens so we said fuck it and we did the rest of the fight the 2 of us.
I saw your ui video, what do you think about removing your own nameplate to have less clutter around your character, or do you find the nameplate to be advantageous in some way?
I don’t know anyone else that’s close to the King of FF14 Tanking but Your It in my opinion. I’ve learned a lot from you coming from WoW Tanking. It is great to get a Job Primer in how things currently expansion. Still leveling my Sprout 🌱 PLD at 63 in Heavensward and a way yet to go.
Welcome back lynx! On the topic of active mitigation I pretty much agree with you. I do think using active mits on autos is cool and can show a noticable difference between a good and great tank. I mean a good drk can take almost 0 damage from auto attacks on e12 if they use tbn well. I do still agree with you tho and wish bosses auto'd more and hit harder. E12 door boss really gets the closest to fulfilling this imo.
Dark Knight's Living Dead and White Mage's Benediction could be what the designers baked into the game. A balance of light and dark to get the best scenario. Oddly enough, they are both on a 300 second (5 minute) cooldown.
I also agree that tanks are still fun to play, but a few of my gripes is DRK being edgier WAR with a shadow pet, and PLD having less personal cds than the others. Awesome vid btw!!
I’m trying to beat the tank anxiety and jump in. I’ve gotten a dps high enough I can choose any of the tanks. Gunbreaker has my initial love but maybe dark knight would be better for a first timer for the same reasons is good for progression. Any recommendations?
Go to lower level dungeons and get used to the skills and abilities, and positioning. Then go to the next higher level dungeons and get familiar with the added skills. Rinse and repeat until you feel comfortable using your skills and abilities at your current level. You can look at what level skills unlock and jump into a dungeon that allows you to use the next skill. Meaning you can skip dungeons to practice. Keep your gear up.
So this is what you meant by the big video coming...and what a great start. I would say I still miss stance dancing just because of the dynamic between seeing a good player and a bad player at a glance. Simply because of how rare it was to see tanks go into dps stance when the time came, I always miss it and would've instead wished that they improved the model for GNB, PLD, and DRK in some fashion so they all had a stance dance unique to them that made sure all tanks could MT and OT just as well but still keep this dynamic of being more than just a tank. I do agree with how you ranked the tanks, WAR in particular for me is a sore spot because of how it was just about perfect in Stormblood other than the buff needed from Storm's Eye which still feels clunky even with the additional time added, why do we need to do a single target combo in a multipull for our damage when any other tank can just start going nuts from the beginning, even DRK can open up with their Floods being available as OGCD's, Paladin has Fight or Flight, and GNB is just GNB with the buffs and insane power even without that. WAR also needed Nascent Flash to be changed anyway because if everyone died but you, you lost a big chunk of your healing by default without a partner to use it on(not to mention it requires level 76 so in roulettes you're more likely to be cursed with not having it much like DRK without TBN), so honestly it's even funnier to realize with a good healer it doesn't even matter. At least they're a great Bozja tank if you wanna do that but outside of that niche...yikes. There's some other minor gripes with other jobs, but overall I would say tanking like everything else in Shadowbringers became super simple, and I say it is a bit unfortunate as it only makes me wonder will things get simpler in Endwalker? Or is there maybe hope of going back a bit towards the Stormblood path of being able to express yourself more outside of your job? I want more hope for the latter.
tbh I'd love to switch between WAR and GNB, but the melding issue is so bad my GNB isn't busting out those nice dps numbers it should with determination instead of direct hit
As someone who just loves running solo content, and dungeons, is Warrior healing actually insane? I've looked at it, and so far (only lvl 40) the 3 combo selfheal feels kinda shitty.. I assume equilibrim will be amazing, but not sure what else is good.. I hear alot of people say they love warrior and then alot say it kinda sucks, but i dunno.. I'm a solo content kinda guy, I looked at Paladin first, but the rotation had me a bit iffy.. I heard some bad things about gbr and drk also (squishiness mostly)
Warrior only becomes unkillable at level 76 when they get Nascent Flash. That skill heals you for 50% of your damage done. When played well by pooling your hard hitting attacks for nascent flash, coupled with thrill of battle + equilibrium, you actually can't die. Well you obviously can but it's just really hard to xD
Hi Lynx, thanks for the vids, got a question for you b/c now I got mixed signals after watching this and your last SHB tanking video with Rin...I recall warrior being ranked at the top for Prog, and bottom for speed clears. In this video you said for speedclear/farm you would go GNB/PLD...but when I look at fflogs, WAR is almost always NECK to neck with GNB and a considerable gap ahead of PLD, with DRK being dead last. So....why wouldnt' you do GNB/WAR ?_?'' I was gonna start Warrior as my 4th relic grind (got 0 experience tanking) to have another option for gwiber tome farm in pugs and someday UWU. I was an old SMN main gone RDM/SAM for now. If you had to recommend me a relatively* easy to pick up tank that gave the best chances to get gwiber farm clear in PUGS***....not statics....wouldn't you still recommend WAR? Or are the mechanics for the EX fights something where a WAR healing isn't going to make a big enough difference over GNB defenses in order to recover from what WOULD be a wipe ?_?'' ......But even then WAR still 2nd in damage on fflogs so ?_?'' huh! Appreciate any response, thank you!
war is slightly above drk in dps, lower than gunbreaker and paladin but has less utility. they made changes to war since his video with ren. if you're new to tanking, war is a great start. its got a pretty simple rotation and a ton of "oh shit" buttons if you make a mistake.
@@Shuhannazy Thanks for the response. I think it's fight dependent who does more Rdps war vs pld. I was looking at extremes and newest savage tier. If there's any chance you can elaborate on the war changes since that video, please let me know. Thank you.
@@zerow6510 if you go to FFlogs main page under eden's promise. there is a box that says tank dmg. click view more. while its rating is closer to paladin than it is drk its not by much. with the tanks being as balanced as they are the differences are slim. when lynx talks about whats meta he's talking about that top 5% ranking. all tanks are viable in all fights for 95% of the player base. The tank balance video was from last July, the changes to war happened in late aug or so. he talks about them in the video but you can also just googled warrior changes. patch 5.3. the changes were great for war but eden 9-12 released in dec, the fights themselves do not utilize wars potential. especially with astro changes and a lot of comps using double regens and shield when needed. the healing power war has just becomes not as useful as the defense or dmg other tanks have.
@@Shuhannazy IDK wtf happened I had a huge reply to you that's now been erased. It had log links showing war>pld for oracle savage, diamond ex, and ucob, uwu, and TEA. Not only was it ahead in dmg in those fights in general, it stayed ahead at the 95 percentile. On top of that as mentioned before it was easier to play (and I looked up the 5.3 changes lynx video which showed why rotationally it was even easier now), and is able to carry when u have bad healers in a pug. My final point was people also underestimating a warrior's self heals means a healer can spend more time dpsing boss instead or healing a bad dps that stood in something/raising. It's easier to play, carried groups, and does more dmg than drk/pld. Why should I NOT pick this over pld again? Just b/c of TBN spam in prog on drk? Drk might take less dmg but it can't keep itself alive when healers dead. And from my friends who have all tanks lvled, drk and pld are way harder to optimize than warrior atm.
Also I kinda disagree on warrior. I think they were amazing for prog in the most recent tier. Being able to invuln every giga slashs in 10 as well as both black halos in e12 part 2 was pretty valuable imo.
It does feel pretty fuckin bad that they buffed warriors damage AFTER the raid patch so it felt kinda pointless. I started this tier on warrior had long since cleared all the fights and swapped to gnb by the time they buffed it's damage lol. Either way I wasnt particularly disappointed with it this tier, definitely was in the previous ones tho.
As a new player and overwhelmed of hearing how good the game is, It's so refreshing to hear someone actually bitch about the game and going through some of the negatives. Subscribed.
Good video, I agree each one of your view except about warrior is the worst. I personally think WAR and DK are good but in different way. DK is super strong when boss has a very long auto attack phases like E5S, small but very frequent shield really keep DK in a good health. Other than that, I think WAR is not that bad. Just like you said in video, WAR is really strong in self healing and very short invincible ability, which I personally feel really give teams more tolerance for team members making mistakes. WAR-main players I know and I feel really enjoy doing more work ourselves and let healers and another tank to do more dps and save resources for any accidents may happened. I think WAR now is not about doing more damage, is all about let other team members do less. My team use less time to clear raid for the first time when I switched to WAR. Healers are great, another tank is great, too. They all cleared at least one ultimate. It’s all about care one less members in the team and when it’s in the first-time run, it really makes healers feel more handy (and do more damage).
Thanks for this video Lynx. I remember making a thread on the FFXIV subreddit when shadowbringers came out with my concern abbout how the tank changes decreased my enjoyment of tanking in general a fair bit and I was met with a ton of downvotes and was called entitled. I'm glad to see you speak about this point at the beggining.
While I hope they fix up WAR with EW, I have a feeling that they are gonna give tons of love to PLD. Which isn't a terrible thing, I've been a GNB for almost all of ShB. But my main complaint is still they need to diversify the flavor of the tanks man. When i can set up my hotbar almost the same way for each class of tank with the exception of ONE moveset (i.e. Gnashing Fang, Requiescat etc) it gets strange. I say make each tank as diverse as each melee DPS, and I'll be happy. But that's just this filthy casuals take. Other than that, LOVE to see you uploading Lynx. Obviously take your time man, I'd rather have one, well thought out 10 minute video a week than 5 videos a week for the two weeks before burnout man. I basically started my MMORPG tanking life listening to your Tanking Guide from a Rank 1 Tank and transferred it into being a fairly solid player. So keep it up man! Nothin but support from me!
i will have to disagree on the WAR point. WAR was the MVP this tier having holmgang being the most useful invuln in the game in every single fight this tier.
Good video, I will say as someone who played WoW since like 2005 when threat was an important mechanic, its loss really isnt missed. Threat is just an extra, pointless thing that almost doesnt need managed when players become good. I like the "beefy dps" model currently.
I stopped playing before a little bit before shadowbringers came out and just started playing again like 2 months ago. It was sad to see the stances gone on warrior. To me before shadowbringers came out warrior you need skill to play efficiently now it seems kind of niche. Plus it sad to hear warrior's are the lowest tier tank now..
My contentious take is that they nerfed the accessibility/skill floor of the wrong job by virtue of the *average* (not top, average) performance of the players that the class fantasy of healing attracts. I'm well aware I'd probably not get many people to see where I'm coming from with this.
Nerfing this game for the average brain damaged player has been going on since Stormblood hit. All you gotta do is look at all the new classes they introduced since then too, with dancer being the king of brain damage.
@@penultimania4295 I myself am going to avoid the casual ableism and overtly aggressive tone that implies a bias against accessibility. But it's interesting to see where you're coming from. I don't think any class or player is brain damaged. All I think is that- given the metrics of who plays what in the game- the hardest job to play has always been healing. It is codependent and situational outside of the hardcore privileged static vaccum So it would have been interesting to have seen the skill floor for successful healing brought down vs tanking. At the very least, there hasn't been enough to keep the sense of class fantasy when it comes to shadowbringers tanking vs. heavensward tanking.
@@dotdot3203 I didn't disagree with you, I actually agree with you as a tank main who also heals. I am just fed up with, as you put it, 'accessibility'. I am tired of everything requiring no effort. People don't play like shit because they're incapable, it's because they are lazy shits and they are ruining this game for everyone who enjoys using their brain and and actually like the challenge of mastering a class. It would have been different if this game was like this from the beginning, but it wasn't. I would have simply not played. And now I have to look at it as everything I loved goes up in flames. And I am not the only one who thinks that way.
@@penultimania4295 @A Song of Broken Spines interesting. I think a big problem between a large large LARGE amount of completely different FFXIV communities, is assuming the intent of others. How can I possibly know why a person plays the game the way they do? I can't. I cannot know at all if someone is a lazy shit, or if their lack of skill is somehow a personal slight against how I percieve things should be. And isn't it odd to frame my perception of someone else's intent as truth in the first place? I don't think most people log on to a game they spend over 100$ a year on to go "hmm I think I will play in a way that purposefully discomforts someone else today." I have to re-examine whether or not I have a healthy level of patience and understanding for others at that point. Whether or not I'm equipped to play well with others at that point.
@@dotdot3203 All you have to do is play DF or PF for anything pretty much. If you point out a mistake (politely) or offer help, in my experience, you get the 'YoU dOnT pAy mY SuB' type. But maybe you are lucky, or you play on servers other than European and its somehow better. I am not going to reassess whether I am equipped to play with others because I am. It's a game where you are part of a team, and other people don't do me any favours by not giving me a brain aneurysm from how they play (not pulling their weight). If you show a lack of consideration for other people's time or a general lack of respect by being an ignorant idiot, find an FC or a linkshell, or whatever. Play with friends. Same if you can't play well for whatever other reason. It's just basic respect. But I understand that everyone is about 'me me me' these days, and I will die bitter because of it.
Personally I'm completely okay with Enmity going away almost entirely, what I want instead is mechanics like in E12S (both phases) where A: either both tanks need to secure aggro and are punished for not managing it properly between them (still not a big deal but it made it require more than 0 brain cells) and B: make busters and other high-damage mechanics positioning based, like Darkest/Somber dance. As a tank I still wanna feel like I'm working to protect the party from damage, but Enmity is sorta,,,,, boring to me personally. ESPECIALLY enmity comboes. PLEASE never bring those back
WAR that used to be my favorite became my least favorite, it's just boring now, it lost all the super fun kit that they had, Dance Stance, Wrath Stacks etc, i just loved all those stuff and now everything gone. While PLD was my least favorite now became my favorite by far, i just love to play PLD as OT to optmize his Kit as a whole, it makes me feel like a Real Tank protecting the others with his Extensive Utility Kit, it does have a high damage and great mobility once it's the only Tank that have a Ranged Rotation allowing me to still do damage when i must to move away. His rotation despite being Linear it's in my opnion the hardest one to manage, for the simply fact of being strictly linear unlike the other Tanks where their rotations ( specially WAR and DRK ) are way more flexible. PLD rotation it's the largest one and you must manage it's DoTs, FoF and RQ in time without delay, a single GCD that you miss for whatever reason ( like hit the wrong button or dodge a AoE ) you must sacrifice one step, if you miss more than one GCD you must to recalculate all your rotation to fit on your CDs otherwise becomes a total mess. It's more punitive as PLD to do mistakes on it's rotations. For DRK and GNB i just can't decide which i like more, both are fun for what they do, GNB it's fun for fast pace and DRK it's fun for Mitigation tools ( also Living Shadow and general Aesthetics ), in the end of day i think i like both equally.
See, I have to disagree with the point you bring up about enmity change where a tank very rarely has to worry about losing hate now. It can still happen, but only when there is a big ilvl difference. Additionally, with the change to raid mechanics swinging further and further to tank busters that are aoe effect it is much better for dps to not worry about enmity issues and purely focus on output. Coming from ffxi and playing through ffxiv from its original alpha stage I am very happy with this change. It was slowly becoming an overall issue that was reminiscent of ffx,i where there was an absolute cap in enmity (aka a 1 to 100% scale with no overhead for tank jobs to maintain enmity). This means dps out performed tanks in that game because they generated similar enmity values hit for hit and it wasn't uncommon that a dps had to stop or slow down just so the tank could regain the lead or resort to suburbs that were less optimal for damage in order to transfer part of their enmity onto the tank. By Heavensward this was becoming an issue and only became more so an issue by the time stormblood came out. As far as I am concerned it put tanks in a very good spot now where they can be judged based on being a tank instead of worrying about competing with dps to maintain being a tank. Pld still has a dmg buff cool down, drk has a sustainable damage buff that compliments their mitigation, war still has a strong showing (even if they had to nerf some of their attacks), and gnb also has a strong rotation and damage up buff. They just now compete against one another instead of dps, so the compitition is still there, just in a different way.
Tbh I think the people who enjoy current paladin are just the min/maxers that jumped ship from warrior/drk to Pally because it does more damage now. I've been a pally main since 2.0 I love the aesthetic, I love the support kit, and I love the concept for magic phase and physical phase, But, out of all tanks this expansion is the most boring one to play. With varely any skills to weave or diversity in your rotation that allows you to maybe move things up and down while keeping your rotation, it feels so slow and restrictive, I hate how much we spam 1 single skill so often, feels like half of our tool never gets used in most fight and while every tool is great it feels like it cuts gameplay flow most of the time. Its the only class in the game where I really feel the long global cooldow. GnB really fuck me up because its so fun to play in contrast. Theres just no hype in Paladins gameplay, nothing that makes you feel that BOOM moment, confiteor feels like a wetnoodle that occasionally splashes some crit but the sound and animation and feedback are so weak. I wish they would just make pally fun.
So warrior ended up like paladin in early Heavensward. Your ARR stuff on tanks doesn't sound right. Warriors didn't have a DPS stance in ARR. Only paladins did. Their DPS stance came with Heavensward. Warriors didn't "stance dance" in ARR. They put up tank stance to get threat on enemies, and then turned tank stance off to increase damage because tank stance penalized your damage output. Warrior tank stance was also fairly worthless, as it only increased max HP and healing received, compared to the paladin tank stance that reduced damage taken. Also, paladins only had a single attack combo: increase threat combo. Edit: I don't feel any sorrow for warrior. Since half way through ARR, Warriors have more or less had a complete kit that made them *the best tank*. There were groups in ARR that did coil 13 with 2 warrior tanks, because 2 warriors was significantly more DPS than a warrior/paladin combo. Even in ARR, Warriors had high damage output, active mitigation, and decent self-healing. Warriors finally sitting last in an expansion isn't a surprise, it's expected after them being the best tank for the base game and two expansions, much like scholar, which was by far the best healer class for the base game and 2 expansions. The problem now is that warrior needs a niche. If you make two types of tanks into DPS tanks and utility tanks, the DPS tanks will be meta, so that can't be how the tanks are split.
I disagree with you on "more Tank buster mechanic to match tank's active mitigation skills" Let's say boss has 5 tank buster skills now and ALL YOU DO is just remember what defensive skill to press on what tank buster. Where is freedom in it? Where is good game play in it other than just pressing the buttons in the exact same order??? Reaction based game play is usually better than set based game play. I love to have freedom with my defensive cooldowns so that I can choose when to pop those and ease off on Healers mana reserve and etc. More Tank busters mean more reserved skills and it doesn't necessarily make fight more interesting
So is your opinion that tanking got easier but not MUCH easier? LOL I thought the reviews of each tank were good, but I'm not gonna lie the opener about how people think tanks got much easier and that you disagree into multiple examples of how they got easier and finally your closing thoughts stating tanks certainly got simplified was kind of meme to me, but maybe I misunderstood what you were trying to say. Also, I don't really feel like you ever elaborated on what the "damage focused gameplay" was that replaced the "tank focused gameplay." We lost the threat management and gained what that gave us damage focused gameplay over what we were already doing damage wise while also managing aggro? In my opinion, your example of explaining how a tank playing well could keep an aggro lead in DPS stance is an example of how the older style was more damage focused gameplay than current tank gameplay because the damage you dealt as a tank was more important to the equation. Tanks didn't really change in how they played in terms of damage, so I don't agree that they got damage focused gameplay IN EXCHANGE for losing the tank focused gameplay, they simply just lost the tank focused gameplay and it became only damage focused gameplay.
Sorry I don't get all of this complains about WAR this expansion, especially now that it has his 1,2,3 combo buffed. First of all, it has good mitigations, and shields doesn't even have diminuishing return when stacked. So instead of having a % Mitigation that decrease the more you stack it, you just have a big flat shield. It has a good damage, dps difference beetween tanks doesn't even exist anymore for 99.9% of players so what are we talking about? It has healing, party mitigation, simpler optimisation, lowest cooldown on invuln. Maybe is not the best tank in shb, ok. But I don't get all of this bitching about WAR. It surely NOT sucks.
Why do you exaggerate the dps difference between the tanks, sure GNB is higher but its not that huge? It's really close. Like 5%. As for Warrior dps, it's real rDPS is not factored into correctly by fflogs for this key reason: WAR self heals often and for a LOT. That's HP that healers don't have to waste time healing, hence, giving them extra spell attack opportunities through the entire fight. ie, 2-3 extra casts for each healer would already make WAR's rDPS higher than other tanks.
The loss of Enmity tools was a huge loss for the game. Shadewalker/Smokescreen on Ninja, Lucid Dreaming reducing Enmity for healers, Refresh/Tactician doing the same for ranged, and Diversion for DPS were all skills that added a lot of resposibility to each party member.
Hey just pace urself dont get burned out
Its much better if player like u keep on playing the game and not getting urself burned out
take the pace you are confy with :) i am not able to play on the level you do so i enjoy seeing the game from your perspective
I can't believe "Circle-shirking" was a terminology
Don't you just love it when tanks shirk each other off?
I had to check the comments when I heard that
That didn't click until just now
You are extremely well spoken and a great example of a top tier player in this game.

:(
I’m a sprout and I love warrior. Only 71 right now but…. I guess I’ll change to DRK..
Babe wake up, new lynx video
The Tank King has returned 👀
i do miss warrios stance dancing. having said that, i just started playing again after 2 years. and instead of going right away to my main and repractice rotation, i made a paladin on another server and relearning everything again. im having a great time. and when im ready, i will come back to warrior for endwalker.
Man your videos fill an empty gap in FF14 content, thank you!!!!!
@@zerow6510 i think youre missing a key point is that the faster it dies the more mechanics you skip and the easier the clear is.
What's your opinion on DRK and PLD? Just curious since you mentioned the other 2.
Really good to see that you're working towards a healthy relationship with your work, best wishes!
haven't seen your content pop up in a while and was hoping everything was good. its good to see you back again producing content
Gunbreaker here thank you for comming back uploading videos, keep safe and take care
I always love listening to your tanking videos. Since its always so accurate to hardcore tank mains.
Welcome back, Lynx! Looking forward to more high end game videos!!
great video! really missed these, always loved hearing your take on things
Thank you.
Great vid king. I agree with basically everything you said here, and would like to see warrior to get some additional depth and love in 6.0
I'm a returning player and I didn't understand why people kept saying you can stay in tank stance. This video gave some very useful perspective on what I've missed. Thank you.
I feel Gunbreaker design for being a squishy but big DPS tank feels alil off when you consider they're not actually that squishy
Aurora in its full duration is a pretty great heal especially in prog when you mess up or get ressed during an intense mechanic, paired with Camoflauge you can kind of delete auto attack damage in most savage fights comfortably. Its brutal shell is also severely underated because if you plan accordingly you can have a brutal shell get auto attacked and replaced by another brutal shell almost immediately. Brutal shell + Aurora + Heart of Stone on your main tank when GNB is OT is very valuable and competes with Paladin for being a support tank
Its just a tank which had a specific vision it was going for then decided to be perfect in everything lol, especially lvl 70 ultimates where Gunbreaker can dish out ridiculous damage and metigation
Real tier list coming through:
TBN is the ultimate crutch so all the smooth brains play DRK. PLD and GNB have tiny swords. 🤏 WAR has a big axe and big pp. 😳
playing a tank to tank is a crutch, BRD can play songs while the boss hits you
Late getting to this video but good to see you back. Been getting my teeth into FF and about to try Ultima Weapon for the first time tonight :)
Warrior feels more like a berserker class than what it used to be. It can withstand so much while still pumping out fell cleaves.
I wish they divorced that gameplay from DRK's delirium move. I feel like that just doesn't fit its kit very well.
To add deliverance also gave you 1% crit hit per stack/every 10 points of the bar.
Just don't! DPS can adjust. ;P
2) Paladin.
I played tank since realm reborn and I never thought to much about the meta. I just really enjoy tanking.
Can anyone tell me what ACT preset is used here?
This is my first time hearing "circle shirking" and damn did that give me a good laugh 🤣 ty.
Great video! As a warrior main you echo exactly how i feel about it this expansion, hopefully warrior does better in endwalker
I came back after 5 years off and was shocked to find no more cleric stance on WHM haha
What do you think about DRK changes so far in EW? You think they will finally fix Living Dead?
can you cover paladin and other tanks intead of just warrior plz? thx
Bro i miss tanking i like tanking back in storm blood being able to swap from sword outh or shield outh
It absolutely does, but a healer gaining more damage from a warrior's healing is not equal to the damage you gain from replacing a warrior for a gunbreaker.
fun fact we duo phase 2 lvl sync Tsukuyomi with a dark and pal combo, I was the pal and the main tank was drk, the group for some unknown reason stack with the mt on the buster cleave, this was the 3 time in a row that it happens so we said fuck it and we did the rest of the fight the 2 of us.
out of curiosity whats the 2nd best tank for level 70 ultimates? I know GNB is the best atm but i'm curious what the #2 is
I saw your ui video, what do you think about removing your own nameplate to have less clutter around your character, or do you find the nameplate to be advantageous in some way?
I don’t know anyone else that’s close to the King of FF14 Tanking but Your It in my opinion. I’ve learned a lot from you coming from WoW Tanking. It is great to get a Job Primer in how things currently expansion. Still leveling my Sprout 🌱 PLD at 63 in Heavensward and a way yet to go.
@Lynx Kameli - hey man, long time fan; what so you think will happen to PLD in Emdwalker??
And of course I just fell in love with warrior.
I would look at Warrior with their insane healing considering you can nascent a party member, as a dps increase for healers
How is gunbreakers damage "way above the other tanks"? I heard the tanks dps are well balanced (2% within each other) according to fflogs?
With maxed out everything yeh the difference isnt tbat big
So....why wouldnt' you do GNB/WAR ?_?''
I was gonna start Warrior as my 4th relic grind (got 0 experience tanking) to have another option for gwiber tome farm in pugs and someday UWU.
@@zerow6510 healers dont work like that. they optimize aoe healing through ogcd's
Cannot believe it took this expansion for PLD to get its gap closer.
What odds do you give for Endwalker making use of tanks plethora of CD's and easy threat.
Subscribed.
Interestingly enough warrior was my fave tank of the 4 to play In shadowbringers
Imagine running CLL or Dalriada with the 400% Echo boost with no WHM and the DRK pops Living Dead
Seems like the warrior niche is in dungeon content.
i miss stance dancing, the true og dancer classes
There are some mini busters ...in the dungeons...yeah OK I'll stop
Thank God you're back. I really missed the no-nonsense pro-improvement point of view you bring that other FF youtubers definitively do not have.
I started as paladin and play every other tank class more. it's beefy but bores the hell out of me
the title was a bit confusing... I thought it was about reviews that were "tanking", as in, overall rating in terms of reviews was lowering xD..
I've now learned the term "circle-shirking" and am high-key sad that I'm coming to the game after its time :(
Lynx is back lets gooooooooooo
oh warriors how the mighty has fallen :(
Swapped from War to Gnb this expo. Been a one trick Warrior pony since Heavensward. Not really looking back tbh 😅 war felt really braindead this exp
meanwhile: warrior is meta in pvp.
i will have to disagree on the WAR point.
I got all of them in 510 plus itIvl and my favorite is always been warrior ,I'm a dungeon monger ,not a Savage fan tho
nascent flash changes are why i went back to war for tanking normal shit.. its a dungeon god for casual content. unga bunga fell cleave full heal ty.
Seems exactly like Ilya’s vids
I don't think most people log on to a game they spend over 100$ a year on to go "hmm I think I will play in a way that purposefully discomforts someone else today."
I have to re-examine whether or not I have a healthy level of patience and understanding for others at that point.
Shit Kameli at it again with 4 year old VODs. You literally can't make this shit up...
Is warrior still not good tank?
*Cries in war main*
I'm going to assume that most of what you are saying applies to the higher end content.
Stance dancing just seems like a tedious pain in the ass. Skill to it for sure, but still obnoxious.
Have you been tanking dungeons?
If you dont hit mobs twice, you'll lose enmity after 2 hits from a DPS or a regen from a WHM
LOL
I thought the reviews of each tank were good, but I'm not gonna lie the opener about how people think tanks got much easier and that you disagree into multiple examples of how they got easier and finally your closing thoughts stating tanks certainly got simplified was kind of meme to me, but maybe I misunderstood what you were trying to say.
