Well said, Nunchaku freestyle and strikes are entirely different.

Refreshing to see actual striking with nunchaku. I'm just getting into them, and trying to find real martial arts use, but its ridiculous what I'm seeing on TH-cam for the most part.
I've got a stainless steel set that I think will work alright for beginning practice. They're hollow but not too thin that I'm worried about bending them right away, and the chain/connection seems sound. They've held up so far to my minimal practicing. I'm just getting the hang of them and striking soft targets. But I think if I had to hit someone hard it would definitely do serious damage and maybe just dent them up a bit. I found some really nice traditional style octagonal hickory wood ones I'll probably purchase once I'm further along this new exciting journey.
Thanks for the videos, I'll be watching more. Cheers

It’s fun to learn what you can do with them. Enjoy the journey.

Yeah, totally agree, that last video on Shadiversity's site, they barely swung the chucks and purposely tried to get them to bounce back, and then they said their favorite word, " flashy", its such a joke. I do think though that any added control or manipulation of the chucks does matter for a real fight, provided the person also trains with them for real fighting, because I agree you do have people that only know how to flip them around and are not familiar with how to strike and then retrieve it again. Would be interesting if you did some future videos of striking different objects with the chucks, like coconuts, or brick, different surfaces. Police forces actually stated they have the police men strike different surfaces so they're familiar with how the chucks react to them. Chucks hitting a human being are going to likely crush them, not bounce off like the rubber dummy.

Human body is quite squishy (even Bruce Lee's body) so issue of "bounce" should be even less than with rigid, unyielding surfaces. That rubber dummy is bouncy, but it also moves so it is quite good analogue on hitting a person.

It's not a rant, your just speaking the truth, I love nunchaku, and although my interest in learning is for fun I don't do stupid tricks, like you said it's not how they are meant to be used, I have the same issue with some La Canne strikes people do, they ain't putting no one down. Keep doing the great videos, I certainly get a lot from your videos. Though I would like to see you show how you strike from holing the both in one hand. As everything I try this, I always end up nearly breaking my fingers, lol.

Haha you just have to get used to it. Gives you way more freedom to hold them that way.

Thank you for making this video it has always annoying me how people just think that nunchucks are props and they’re not they are A martial arts self-defense weaponAnyone that says they’re nunchucks don’t work in an actual fight are people who most likely are very inexperienced and have never actually trained with nunchucks or have had any kind of actual years of training with them

Most likely no martial arts training of any kind. Nunchaku does not need years of training. Of course having mastery of Xie Desheng takes years and even then I am suspicious about his fighting ability using it.

Well said sir So much is about hype and BS. You are absolutely correct.

I actually do do slow mo sometimes. I include slow mo at the end of this video. th-cam.com/video/bMOPkWF8bAk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=V2e_YC-4bgSE4GoI

I like him. I only learned a couple of "flair" tricks just in case reality ceases to exist, and I end up in a nunchaku show off before a fight like in martial arts movies against another nunchaker. Other than that, ALL of my strikes and attacks are BRUTAL. INTENTIONALLY.

No need to be BRUTAL. Practical and non-nonsense is enough.
