I have this engine on a G3 bass boat. The Yammy is a 2016. I love it. I just wish I got to go out more often.

I use a 1999 Johnson 115hp. It has never failed and I love it. If I replace it, it will be with a 4 stroke Yammie, they are indeed quiet and I see them everywhere.
I have owned them all. Yamaha outsold the other outboards because the dealers made more commission selling them than say Mercury. Yamaha is a good outboard. However I know that in salt water their power trim units don't last very long. Also their water pumps on the smaller models will clog up and cause the engine to run hot faster then those old Evinrude's. Again they are good outboards and I have owned then .I currently own a Honda 90, possible the best outboard I have ever owned in 50 years, I also own a Suzuki 25 I also love it much better than Yamaha new 2 cylinder 25 . Do your research . Yamaha is the only Manufacture currently making a 70 hp unit out of a 60 cubic in block. I really like the 70 Yamaha, But the dealerships like them much more. I aint paying $9,000 for a 70 hp engine. I can get a 90 Suzuki for that price or less.....Also Suzuki had Fuel injection years before Yamaha...

I've spoken to a fair few outboard mechanics over the years, and most agree that the internals of modern Yamahas are built better than most other brands, although there's less and less in it these days - all of them are pretty good, especially compared to the outboards of old. I've run several brands over the years, but I have more confidence in Yamaha than any of the others. I've had a fantastic run from the ones I've run (40, 70 and 115HP at different times.) But of course, it's a personal choice.
They are almost as quiet as Suzuki, don't have a six year warranty like Suzuki. If you were to take the gearcases apart you can easily see Suzuki has incredibly more stout gears. The hydraulic trim is more responsive. Yes Yamaha is almost as good as Suzuki.
There you go. Sounds like you've made your choice. I'll stick to mine. ;)
I must say you said you testing your yammi 70 with new prop you give no actual numbers from the testing,not rpm gph nothing please do a video with information on rig and how actually it performs?

3500 RPM = 15 knots (28 km/h)
4000 RPM = 20 knots (37 km/h)
5000 RPM = 25 knots (46 km/h)
6000RPM = 29 knots (54 km/h)
6100 RPM = 30 knots (55.5 km/h)*

What prop are you running and on what boat just got one and it's got prop clutter and runs rough at low rpms but pop it in neutral it's fine but in gear same rpm sounds like ass
I'm running a 14K 13 1/8 stainless Talon prop. Tops out at 30 knots at 6100 - 6200 RPM on a Beastmaster Snubby 500.

great motor! I've had the f70 for 7 months now and i can't fault it! great on fuel, quiet and very reliable.
I only get 29 knots out of mine with standard prop on a 03 model 4.75 quintrex top ended 🤷♂️
Sounds about right. What revs for that speed?
@Starlo Gets Reel ill have to check that out next time I head out ! I haven't paid much attention to the revs. However, l think I have seen it sitting around 5400 revs at WOT with motor trimmed up to the sweet spot. If I have a mate on board, im only just cracking 28knots

Generally between AUD$9,500 and $10,500 in Australia, Floyd, depending on where you shop and what extras/fittings required. Not sure of prices in other countries.

Is it possible to spin the hub? Or will the lower unit just be torn up?
I believe it's possible, but with a stainless prop, gearbox damage is on the cards if you hit something really hard. If that's likely you may be better off with an alloy prop.
@@StarloGetsReel I’m thinking about upgrading props, due to the fact I do not believe this one has a fail safe.
