The Wailord also has an inspiration from a blimp. Its extremely light (for its size) weight suggests that it should actually float not just in water but also in air. I like to think of Milotic also being inspired by the Lungfish (specifically the marbled lungfish, which is a long, serpentine fish), one of two types of lobe-finned fish, the other being the Coelecanth (also the inspiration of Relicanth). This concept for Milotic plays off the idea that lobe-finned fish are far more rare than ray-finned fish, just like Feebas and Milotic are far more rare than Magikarp and Gyarados.
Damn, that actually makes a lot of sense. I also felt that wailord was too obvious to be true. In the case of milotic, I found 3 inspirations, so I thought that dhe didn't had more.
