    Love when Ustaad ji says doesnt matter if one sings or not, one should always try to understand the influence a song inserts on one's emotions. Its easy to talk about, analyze and follow others (i take it he is referring to western music or other type of music) . You are nothing if you dont understand your inner emotions and your reality.

    Ah, would it be possible for one of you to translate into English what Saami Sahab has said here? I am such a fan. He is an amazing artist and singer.

    • @usmanmohyyuddin7647
      @usmanmohyyuddin7647 7 ปีที่แล้ว +49

      @Elizabeth Saunders Let me try this for you...
      There are different circumstances like, separation, meeting, sadness, happiness these all are those feelings which a singer must go through to get those expressions in his or her singing...
      one can show his or her expressions with voice, like if you are happy or sad, or you have some regret.. what is the way of expressing all those feelings, it is VOICE..
      Then Rohail hyaat came and asked Saami sb, whether he is fine, and asked him that we want to do some experiment, then the person sitting with Saami sb, said that I have told all to Saami sb what Rohail said. and then Rohail said that I am afriad of Saami sb and he said Saami sb, that do you know why I am afraid? because I dont want to put any noise in your ears(He means, modern music where too many instruments are being used). then Rohail said that we have been doing this for 4 years and I (Rohail) always say that noise is too much.. Rohail then said lets do some experiment.. and then Saami sb said, that This world is for experiments..every passing day some new experiments are being conducted by people... then Saami sb said that, yes if noise is there in todays music then we have to look for peace in that music at the same time.. This will be a new experiment.. Saami sb said, I keep one thing in my work, my thoughts always remain rightist, and it is from the very beginning and it is rightist even today, but I also know that the modern world, I am in.. till the time we will not take these two things together, audience will not realize this.. If I go to the rightist way, and demand is of modern music, no,, this will not work, we need collaboration of 50/50 and people will like it and listen it..
      Then Saami sb said that I belong to the oldest musical family of Subcontinent.. His relation is with miyan saamat, who was student of Ameer Khusro... We haven't wasted the rightist way of our forefathers. the teaching and style you can say... We are still taking care of it.. and the one who comes to us, we give him or her that skill.. and then chit chat between Rohail and rest of the team, I will quote only one sentence of Rohail, where he said that when it comes to the level of Ustaad (master), he will surely play with it, this will be joyful experience... :)... Then last part of Saami sb interview, where he said that whenever something comes in creation, it hides, but never waisted.. Use of sur (music term in urdu) with simplicity is important, without any artificiality.. we have gone far from simplicity and we are into artificial music.. The one who hasn't recognize itself, can't do anything... Recognize your own self first..it is very easy to criticize others, but it is very hard to recognize your own self.. when you listen to some music, try to understand it.. doesn't matter whether you sing or not but atleast understand it. This is the best solution..
      I hope you can understand now... may I ask, from which place you are, and how you come across listening to Coke studio Pakistan and especially Saami sb..

      @Faysal Amin Oh, thank you so much for your generosity in sharing this with me. Yes, I can understand your translation very well. (The only thing I don't understand is, what is meant by "rightist"?) I really appreciate your taking the time to translate this so much. I am in the U.S., in NYC. I am a singer myself and a voice teacher. I worked as an opera singer for years, then retrained my voice for musical theatre and popular music. My boyfriend is a big fan of Indian classical music; we listen to ragas a lot at home. We attended an all night Raga festival in NYC earlier this year, and Maestro Saami performed with his sons. I have been performing for decades, sung around the world, and seen many tremendous performances. But it has been years since I was so transfixed and inspired by a performance. It was truly magical. His connection between voice, body, breath, spirit, and intention were so profound. I became a fan of his that night--I am not someone who easily becomes a fan, so it is a rare occurrence for me--and have been finding as much as possible on TH-cam to listen to. And I had been hoping to find one where he was talking about his art.
