This is a demo session recorded during Coke Studio season 4 in 2010 for the track Mundari. This is the preparatory process making this recording a test of our concept. Saami Saheb’s emotive delivery and body language brings this groovy session to life, and is a masterclass in itself for using the body for energetic vocal delivery.
His openness to technology, but commitment to old world craft is seen in his expressions; the eye-contact he makes with with the team during the recording, and as he takes off the headphones, at the end of the track. We look forward to further investigating this experiment, and sharing with audiences and music makers on our TH-cam Community, the creative exchange between Saami Saheb and the CS team.

I always thought the demo/rehearsal sessions were special in their own way as the performers were understandably more relaxed and laid back than in the final recording. Ustaad Munshi Raziuddin Sahab (Father of Fareed Ayaz Sb and Abu Mohammed Sb) was teacher to Sami Sami Sahab. Sami Sahab taught Ali Sethi.

Probably the most underrated composition of Rohail. A masterpiece by the legend Naseeruddin Saami sahib.
This demo verision is way better than studio version. I yhink music didnt do judtice with this masterpiece in studio version
wonderful to see this channel active again. I remember listening to this song the first time. Me and my roommate were in our hostel toom in Hyderabad (India) and came across this song. Ustad Saami Saheb looked like a familiar laidback uncle we would see in the tea shops or a barbershop, smoking a beedi and chatting with people in our villages in Kerala and we were curious to know how he sounds. The moment he began singing, our minds were blown. Pak Coke Studio and Rohail Hyatt had given us many such unforgettable moments and many of us on the other side of the border will be ever grateful for it.

Absolutely stunning. Mundari is one of my favourite songs ever. I cant thank you more for releasing it. The piano used in the official version is so subtle and soothing. This version is equally mind blowing and is raw. I believe thats what your aim always has been: to bring out the raw essence of folk art.

The language here is Braj Bhasha which was use to be poetic language in mediaeval period of india, spoken around agra - mathura region..
Mundari mori kahe ko cheen lai chailwa , ka kiyo main tora? - मुंदरी मोरी काहे को छीन लई छैलवा, का कियो मैं तोरा ? means -" why you snatched my ring o chailwa..!, what I have done to you?(here it refers to Krishna), and this is being said by gopees of mathura.
