I don't mind fish that tastes like fish, I just don't like fish that taste like their environment. I can't eat catfish. Shit doesn't taste like fish at all to me. Just mud.
It depends on the type of fishy taste. I am not huge on fish, so I don't like a really intense fish flavor. If the food is prepped right, it'll dim that taste down and add to how delicious the dish is. It's mostly preference, I guess.
Fish was always the best way to make me puke as a kid. We visited my grandfather in his small fishing town in Massachusetts when I was 5 and that was the first introduction I've ever had to fish. There was a pungent scent of rancid seafood everywhere near the docks, and my grandfather sucked a fishes eyeballs out of its head right there on the docks. Then we went to the beach and dug up muscles or clams or whatever they were. That was going to be our dinner. Soggy "meat" that had a taste reminiscent to those rancid docks, and would go bad if left out for more than a couple hours. It took a long long time before I was even willing to try salmon after that.
I’m from the South in the US, and we believe the same thing. That fishy taste is easy to get rid off if you know how to prepare the food. Seasoning and sauces do a ton to mask it, but also if you dispatch the fish instead of letting it die on ice then that removes a lot of that fishy taste too because the fish meat has less of that stress hormone that contributes to the taste
I'm Thai and the fish looks like what we call "Pla In See", quite a delicacy back at home when you deep fry and dip in fish sauce with lime, garlic, shallots, and chilli.
My dad caught freezers full of king mackerel in the 70s at the pier in Fort Walton Beach. We ate it all the time. He would batter it up and deep fry it. That, hushpuppies, a salad, and iced tea was a typical Friday night supper for us. We looked forward to those meals. Pompano, dolphin fish, cobia and others were baked with lemon and butter. We pressure cooked bonita to supplement dog food.

If you ever have an oily fish that's too fishy, try soaking it in some (drinking)alcohol(ethanol) first..(just vodka, but it can be anything strong, such as bourbon or spiced rum if you think that'll give it an added flavor you like) That type oil is both partially soluble in ethanol, PLUS miscible in ethanol, so it will take a lot of those oils away. It helps to agitate(shake) it, even once at the beginning and especially once at the very end. You don't even have to soak it that long. Then once you've shaken it up a little at the end dump the boozyfishoil and put in your marinade. It can take away a lot of the fishy oil you don't like, most especially the oil on the outside which (believe it or not) is the oil with the most bad flavor. You can
P.S. milk also can help, as it binds to the odorous compounds that make fish taste fishy.. so you could try regular alcohol for just a couple minutes, agitating it, dumping it.. then bathe it in milk for about 10 minutes before draining it and adding your marinade. If you hate the taste of fish that badly you should just find fish that's fresh and less fishy, like cod, halibut, or even pan-seared salmon.
It literally does though, for people who don't like that flavor. That being said, calling a fish one doesn't like the taste of for being too fishy trash is a little silly.
It took me 40 years to be able to stomach salmon because the fish taste was way to strong for me as I grew up the the mountains where the strongest fish flavor available was from a trout fish, and we didn't eat them often. @pokeosinisor yes I do that as well and after giving it a good rinse to wash off any leftover blood i prepare a bowl of cold water with a bit of flour mixed in and let the fillets sit in that mixture for a minimum time of 10 - 20 minutes then rinse off the mixture well, this step completely removes any fishy taste or smell and is even better than the milk hack some people use to remove the unpleasant smell and taste, highly recommend you give it a try 👍 just make sure you FULLY wash off the flour water to prevent having the extra taste of flour

And it does have its own taste, but not really bad one... like, most of the meats have its own characteristic taste.
Some people call it trash fish - because they don't know how to prepare it, they mostly prefer to eat REAL trash that is super-processed fat and chemicals bought at supermarkets
Doesn't king mackerel have an insane level of mercury in it. I heard you weren't supposed to eat more than one or two a year
Ahh yes and youre so much better than they are. Youre so much more intelligent and resourceful.
Thanks for reminding us how amazing and special you are
Bro got salty @@whatever3145
Quite literally the king of fish. Quality eating!
You forgot to mention smoked meats are leading cause of stomach cancers but everything else is good lol
@@user-dx9ch2ke9h FALSE!...💀🤣🤦♂️
Where did you get that from?..@@user-dx9ch2ke9h
@@user-dx9ch2ke9hwhile you’re right about the increased chances of cancer there are many ways to prevent it also and still be able to enjoy smoked/grilled meats. Preventing the fats from dripping directly into or on the fire pot alone negates most issues alone. Not many people with a brain still use lighter fluid to start their smokers… Not eating delicious burnt ends or even charred meats helps a lot. Thinner cuts of meat that cook faster is another that will help by being able to cook it faster. Also, NOT cooking your meat well done is a big one also. No clue why anyone would want their red meat cooked past a medium rare anyways bc anything past that isn’t even worth feeding to the dogs.
@@HughWoowhat the fuck? Then what is the point?
King mackerel is a staple in Nigerian cuisine. We also love it smoked. It’s fantastic!
“Try out this recipe” like most of us have access to Kingfish
I love king fish and the way you cooked that thing was absolute perfection! Made me drool a bit ngl
Love it Reed, look brotha how your channel is growing. Good styles w the marinade...smoked king is dank
This man put in 2 sauces and called it seasoning🤣🙏! Don’t let him cook
That looks amazingly well done. Hope to try some but here in the Great Lakes we've our own "trash fish" and I may try your recipe on some of that.
Smoked macro croquettes are the best!! My Grandfather use to make. Great job man💯👍🏾👍🏾
I see you got you a Recteq!!! They are the best and made in the USA!!🇺🇸 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
for some reason the sciency things you said near the end made it sound even more delicious
This looks fantastic!
I’ll never understand why people don’t like fishy fish, you’re literally eating a fish.
Marinate the fish in lime salt and vinegar to rid of the fishy smell
Exactly.
Different fish taste different. Different people like different tastes.
That looks wonderful. I am actually envious of who got that bite. Looks like that flavor is going to mix well on the chew, and that outside is gonna be nice and crisp. I bet these would taste immaculate blackened
That looks really good
Saying a Fish is too Fishy is like saying a Chicken is too Chickeny or Pork too Proky Tasting
Looks amazing. Try marinating in Cold Brew Coffee. Did it on some Blue Runners. Smoked on pellet with Applewood. Made great tacos
Interesting …
sound terrible
@@Meilk27 don't knock it till you try it
@@AaronSpencer-mw1nu Not sure if I want my fish tasting like coffee.
@@805fillmore the coffee is mild, it help get rid of the "fishy" taste that alot of people don't like. We used dry seasonings for tacos when we smoked it
Looks good but no lie it sounds like you are doing a class presentation 😂
On god. Dogshit
bro started reading nutrition facts to pad out the word count
Great vid!!
Bro sounds baked as hell narrating this,
lol
Hi, why didn't you wash the fish aft cutting it ? Just curious
Why would you? Do you wash your fillets after cutting them? Not trying to be a dick im curious cuz never done that myself, wash it after i gut it for sure but not again after that and that fish was gutted already
@@pokeosinisor yes I do aft I fillet.
It also has too much heavy metals and should not be consumed in large amounts
I don’t even like fish but OL BOY you sure did make that look good!!
King Fish is one of the pricey fishes in Kerala, India. It's good for frying as well as curries
“Has a strong fishy flavors” no shit you git its a FISH!😂❤
Too bad I'm allergic, that looks delicious. Idk why people would call it trash fish.
Because it tastes terrible prepared almost every way. That’s why it’s always smoked and usually made into dip. That’s the only thing I’ll do with it. Try grilling it or frying it and you’ll know what I mean.
@floridaman727 sadly I can't since I'm severely allergic. But still even though you say it tastes awful. I'm sure it tastes better than garbage like crab, shrimp and lobster. Those bugs are truly nasty
@@user-by2ij3it7vcrab, shrimp, and lobster are all better than it unfortunately
@@frostysduck6866 eh their still nasty ass bugs man. You're pretty much eating underwater cock roaches that eat shit/dead animals/each other.
@frostysduck6866 eh naw you're still eating underwater trash bugs you have to dip in butter to make taste okay. That eat shit dead animals/people/garbage/each other. Now think about that and tell me which tastes better.
That fish head split in two looked like a mask into my SOUL
That looks amazing
dont king mackerel have an insane amount of mercury like you literally poisoning yourself 😭
Only the big ones have a lot of mercury.
I hear the same thing. But we ate it once a week or more and as far as I can tell, with no ill effects. Maybe king mackerel had much less mercury in the 70s.🤔
If it have all that mercury half to Trinidad and Tobago would of been dead already 😂😂😂
Once in a while I'll keep a barely legal sized King
Why would they have anymore than any other fish would have?
We’re from St. Lucia, the West Indies and my mother eats this fish religiously. She is 78 has never been sick(as far as stays in the hospital) and I pray God keeps her this way for many more years to come.
Fish went ”👁↖️↗️👁”
❤that looks real good how you seasoned and cooked it. Wish I could taste it. Yum yum.😊
This look sooo good 😋
That looks delicious 😋
I’m an Arab, and we eat king fish quite regularly. Usually we brine it with salt vinegar and water and then season it with a fish fry masala before frying. Don’t know why people say it tastes bad, it’s great
Nothing is trash when you put a lot of effort into it good job
