The only Advent calendar I wanted was Trader Joe’s Candle one, which I couldn’t justify buying for myself, especially as I have a drawer full of TJ’s candles just waiting. So, instead I decided to do an Advent calendar of seasonal activities and posting them on IG. These three weekend days I’ve gone to concerts in churches, all wonderful, and there’s more music to come amongst other things like going to look at house decorations and lights. One of the most amazing theatrical experiences I’ve had was seeing Diana Rigg on Broadway do Medea. The set looked liked the rusted hull interior of a ship with big metal panels. As she gave the devastating soliloquy at the end, and timed perfectly to hit at moments between lines, the panels - a bit smaller than a garage door, would drop out of the walls and land in piles on the stage around her. She was quite literally bringing down the house. The sound and vibrations reverberated throughout the theater, so much that you could feel it in your body.
Your whole scene is so festive--and the sweatshirt is perfect! Invisible Labor sounds fascinating. The Stanley Tucci book is going on my holiday shopping list--for someone I hope will lend it to me after she finishes it!
That's the spirit, Kim! Cute shirt! Thanks for the shout out. All of your festive activities sound wonderful. I am also thrilled to be in the Piñeiro group; the discussions are soooo good. Invisible Man is such a strange and powerful novel.
Oh boy, I still haven’t started my Claudia Piñeiro project with you😢. I just get sidetracked and do the magpie thing and pick up whatever is the shiniest book in the moment (which is what I do like doing), but then I forget to read what “I’ve been longing to read” - Looking at you and Now in November!!
I adore your sweatshirt! It’s perfect! I think I must see Wicked. I am buying the new Stanley Tucci book for my nephew for Christmas who loves to cook all of my Italian mother’s recipes (his grandmother). I am loving our Pineiro group as well. Such powerful discussions!
It sounds like you've been having a wonderful holiday season so far! My family always goes to see Christmas shows during the season, but it has been a while since we went to the Nutcracker (hmm....probably too late to get tickets for this year, but maybe I'll put it on the list for next year!)
OK.. you and Pat (Books with Pat) have convinced me... i will read All Yours! I have been in a classics and non-fiction mood lately... currently reading Persuasion by Austin and DaVinci by Isaacson. Also reading Storm by George Stewart... recommended by Bob the Reader.
The ad before the video was a Fandango ad for Wicked💚🩷 I do reread some favorite Christmas books from my shelves. I found a cool Christmas in MN anthology at a thrift store that is fun to read a bit from each day. A couple of months ago I picked up a $1.99 ebook version of Hiddensee: A Tale of the Once & Future Nutcracker by Gregory McGuire that I have been saving for December. On Black Friday, I added a sweatshirt with a tree made of books on the front to have a holiday shirt. It's cozy and brings me joy. Happy Reading!📚
