So very sensible to DNF both of those books and that edition of Wicked is stunning. I’ve been a slow reader myself this holiday season but think before the new year I might be ready to check in!
Thank you for your Familiaris summary…you saved me a chunk of change for sure. I loved Edgar Sawtelle (as I remember). Onward and upward!!❤️ Great job on the jigsaw puzzle!
Hi Kim, I DNF’d Edgar Sawtelle for a few reasons. I thought it was bloated and some of the dog scenes bothered me. I feel like you that there’s too many books out there to force myself to read one that I’m not enjoying. I’m wishing you a healthy happy new year. Aloha friend.
I love Manda Scott and the way you described that book actually makes me want to read it because I love SF and gaming. You might get on better with her historical fiction, which is brilliant.
Great week Kim. So with you on the dnfing. There are so many fabulous things to read, why waste your time on something you are not enjoying. Looking forward to reading with you again in 2025 😊
Your episode is comical timing for the discussion about bailing and also “Wicked” because just this week I bailed on it for bookclub. 😅😆 I was feeling a bit guilty, but I agree recreational reading time is too short to labor over something that doesn’t suit.
Kim, I'm wondering if you mentioned a book I picked up. It's a novella that I'm thoroughly enjoying. "Whose Names Are Unknown" by Sanora Babb. A story about life during the Depression and Dust Bowl years. She wrote it in the 30"s and it remained unpublished until University of Oklahoma Press picked it up in 2004. It's a great finish to the year. If you haven't read it I highly recommend I it!
I just reread Wicked myself after maybe 15 years and still loved it throughly. The TikTok thing jumped out at me too, but I thought they got it from that Ke$ah song and she was making big bucks off of it. I was hoping more of the book would enter the double movies and when it opened talking about the Time Clock I got very excited, but they never circled back or mentioned it again???
Love that cover for Wicked, but also tiktokism? That's crazy. I hope you find out some info and let us know. On DNFing a book. I dnf, but in this coming year I want to get better at it. I usually dnf after reading around 125 pages but I think I need to dnf sooner. I'm realizing that I just don't want to read the book and end up in a reading slump because I won't pick it up. Such a waste of time.
"Tiktokism" is amusing. Does the movie reference that? It would be so hilarious. I assume the movie doesn't, because if so, it would have been ALL over the meme space.
Maybe Any Human Power just took on too many plot lines. I have no compunction about abandoning a book that isn't for me. If it's a "classic " I'll try again in the future. Otherwise I'll move on.
Ooooh, I've been thinking I'm due for a re-read of Wicked.... I read it about 15 years ago, so waaaaay before Tik Tok! I'm here for the DNFs.

I am glad you mentioned Familiaris; it is Audible's December 30 daily deal. It doesn't sound like my kind of book.

I've been taking books to a 96 y/o reader. She finishes every book she starts 😳. I feel a lot of pressure when choosing books for her.
@@judybrown1624 I would too! But you’ve read some great books and are a good judge of books. I’m sure you do fine.
That is so awesome though I can understand the pressure.

Hi, Perhaps it was Greg @Supposedly Fun you heard talking about it (as I did) and the controversy with Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath.

I am encouraged more than ever to officially DNF books instead of having unfinished books languishing on my shelves. 🤓

Not a fun feeling to have books on the shelf that deep down you know you probably won't read. Can relate!

Hi Kim! DNF ing books has been refreshing for me in the past couple years. I usually DNF at 20 or 25% 😊
Very interesting detail about tik tokism 🤨
@@BernasBookishAdventures hi Berna! I feel so good when I follow my judgement and DNF a book. And I can’t wait to find out more about Tiktokism!
