How to set The High Air / Fuel Mixture on an Echo 2 Cycle Weedeater / Line Trimmer Carburetor

  • Here is a quick video on how I like to adjust my high mixture setting screw on my Echo Weedeater line trimmer carburetor. This works for the low idle adjustment screw and the high rpm adjustment screw. This is a touchy procedure so make sure you do it properly or you can and will do damage to your machine. This procedure is pretty much identical to any 2 stroke / 2 cycle carburetor, like on a chainsaw or a leaf blower, weed whacker etc. Its the same sort of procedure on Stihl brand weed eater / chainsaw or Husqvarna etc. Some people say these carburetors are non adjustable, but I think they are wrong, watch this video and you will see. This adjustments were performed on a SRM 225 model trimmer but this method also works well on the PAS powerhead units as well.
    I have been asked so many times, where is the carburetor adjustment screw? I decided to make this video!

    the little brass nut was smashed on mine and the little plug thing you pulled out with that tool I had to break it up and dig it out with a precision screwdriver set, but I got to the little flat head adjustment and it works enough to trim my yard, great tutorial, now I can just get new fuel / air filters and a new spark plug and I should be like new.

    Just wanted to say thank you very much for the video. I put an amazon generic carb on mine and could not even get it to start. Out of the numerous videos a watched not one of them mentioned the low speed mixture screw that you did. On this carb there were no caps blocking either screw but both were turned in all the way. Thank god I got the kit that had the screwdriver included. What I also noticed is they leave it up to you to shorten the return line? hose. Both nipples on the new carb are the same size so its easy to get them mixed up so it won't run at half tank and also the vent hose will push fuel out whole time. Now it actually runs to good and cuts as good at idle as it did at full throttle. Too funny. Thanks again . Now I don't have to throw it across the yard again until it need another carb.

    If your Echo with this type of carb bogs down at full throttle. You need to unscrew and remove the high mixture needle. There is a hole in the tip of the needle that will clog. Use a single wire strand to open up the passage. On mind, I turn the needle vale all the way closed the one turn open to start. Then adjust to a smooth speed. There is also a low mixture screw on top of the carb that will need to be adjusted, mine is about 6-7 turns open.

    Out of all the videos I researched on TH-cam, this was the one that solved my problem (just one of many but still grateful). I had run the gamut of advice from, ‘tear your carb apart’ to ‘don’t buy an Echo’. Having just done a carb replacement, I knew there was something missing from the equation. The high throttle adjustment was the answer. FYI there were no caps on the new carburetor. Thanks again.

      Echoes are great we've been selling them since 2009. They have a 5 year warranty on them so just make sure to bring it into your dealer and get the carb replaced under warranty before the first 5 years is up and you should be good for 10 years.

    I do small engine repair and these new 2 cycle zama carbs had me fooled. I didn't know they could be adjusted. I saw a couple other videos and then yours was very informative on the adjustment. What I think the issue is with the 2014 SRM225 I'm working on is the age and compression at 8ipsi. I ordered a new replacement carburetor and I'll see if it runs after that.
    It just won't ifle right or work at high rpm.

    After like 10-20 cord pulls on cold start, the tool fakes like it’s gonna idle, then dies. I can pull it a few more times and it’ll idle maybe for longer then dies. I then open the choke more and hold on the throttle to hopefully get it to catch and just run from there for however long I can get it to run. Do you know what I can do to make it run better?
    I wouldn’t know If I’d need to adjust the high or low settings of the carb screws shown in video.

    This might be a stupid question? I just bought an Echo srm225 brand new, mine sounds like the one in the video before you adjusted it, my question, will it hurt the engine if run like that? Or should it be adjusted? Also in all my old trimmer i ran 40:1 can fuel. With this trimmer i bought the echo 50:1 can fuel. Will it be ok running 50:1 echo can fuel?

    • @machinesnmetal
      @machinesnmetal  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      to tell you the truth that canned fuel will do more damage to your new machine than it running rough. That fuel is AWFUL it attacks all the plastic and rubber parts of your fuel system, it runs hotter than traditional gas/oil mix and it makes less power.
      If it's brand new and running like this one in the beginning of the video, take it back and get another one, it's warranty and won't cost you anything.
