      Unless she's the kind of person that can handle all the input. I would be careful of over whelming her with all the information. I would only talk about her driving if she was doing something dangerous. Then use the video to debrief her about her riding pointing out what was wrong.

    Harley-Davidson paid for a study about the effects of riding on stress and relaxation. Each of the rides was about 20 minutes long. They found there was an initial time of adrenaline, but that was followed by relaxation. When I ride I wear a Garmin 245 GPS heart rate watch, with a Bluetooth link to my smartphone's Garmin Connect app, , which I have live tracking with my girlfriend. I have several contacts that I can use. It's a nice safety feature especially when you're riding alone. I found that in the first 20 to 30 minutes my heart rate will be up a little, but then as I'm about 30 minutes onward, it steadily drops, and I've monitored this for 2 hours many times. I see the same thing riding on twisty roads and even speeds of 70 to 80 miles per hour on a highway. The more I have to focus and the longer I've been out there, the more relaxed and regular my heart rate is. I'm a distance runner and coach, so I'm used to monitoring heart rate training and its characteristics. Garmin watch and Garmin Connect livetrack is a great feature for solo riding.

      Same but in europe we have a 125cc which can we practice after 3 years in car if we have license to it that period minimum. If we go higher than 125cc we must getting special license but in our country you can ride a scooter with 50cc without any license just your id card :) regards from Poland ;)

    Use arm & hammer brand 'clean sensations' wash booster. You'll never get the 'pure waters' scent out after that. It's the strongest stuff out there. I also reccomend hanging them up to dry... with a dryer sheet in either pant leg. Also if the material can be dry-cleaned do that once every few weeks. One final reccomendation? Wear athletic shorts or compression shorts (instead of underwear) under bc it'll be a lot cooler. From Misery, excuse me, Missouri, where our april-september are 90° days with 80% humidity. Afternoons are hot & sweaty. Cheers!!

    20:00 mark you are completely distracting her, she is so focused on you and what you are doing and saying she almost missed that light. relax on the micro management that type of training is good for parking lots she needs to be able to focus on the road. dnt get me wrong you are great trainer just in that moment there was too much going on you have to remember when training on the road you are just as much an distraction to her as anyone else.

      agree, respect to Nikki, I would be really frustrated by this kind of nonstop instructions. I did my license in the UK so we have something like this there, and one of my instructors was micromanaging nonstop in my ear, it just killed me, I had such a bad session. Next time I was with a chilled out dude and it was a whole different experience. I passed MOD1 and MOD2 with him. You are a good trainer and I love watching your videos btw.

Will be completing my Skills Test (Parking Lot Test) next weekend and can't wait to start riding some of the roads around my house. One thing I will say to any aspiring riders is to take a proper course to learn to ride! Unless you have a great instructor like Dan as your partner, the quality of instruction really helps make this process so much smoother. Thanks for your videos and keep it up.

    This vid was great for helping me not be so frustrated with myself. I tend to be a perfectionist and want to do everything perfectly. Having just earned my license two weekends ago I am just now starting to venture out into the real world and I've been taking it slow with just 15-20 minute practice sessions. I was worried that my stress exhaustion was a "me" thing, but not I see it's not! The more I ride, the better I get, both mentally and physically. Thanks for the reassurance, the safety tips and GO Nikki!! I'm a fan! Thanks for sharing your adventures!

      I assume you are from US? Why isn't there more/any in road bike training in US? I'm from UK where it's 80% road and 20% enclosed with cones etc. And then our advanced courses are 95% on road as well.

    • @HiroNguy
      @HiroNguy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Newbians who've never been on a motorcycle before will have their brains full trying to grok the controls. In the US most people don't even know what a clutch is! So the MSF BRC is designed for parking lots to remove the overwhelming variables road traffic introduces.
      DDFM mentions this in a different video of his.

    • @DPloiDEBT
      @DPloiDEBT 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Returned To The Earth I had replies off and it’s because motorcycles are more of recreational rather than our main mode of transport. I personally ride to commute with it but many people want the comfort of a car. Also if you’ve seen video on Fortnine explains why because of that rebel motorcycle phase on the world wars. It’s still prevalent to this day.

    • @lisakoch8488
      @lisakoch8488 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Stach That’s why in Germany (or EU in general most of the time) we do parking lot training until we are confident enough in order to be able to ride on the street .Then we go out on the street with a driving instructor in the car behind us that gives us space and kinda “protects“ us from traffic. In Germany we also have to ride in the dark, on Country roads, in the City and on the Autobahn in order to learn in different situations.

    Add a 1/2 cup of borax to your wash to kill the smell in your pants. It won’t hurt your cloths and works as a detergent booster. Great stuff. I also keep a salt shaker of borax next to the sink for my hands. Get your hands wet, add borax, add dawn, scrub and rinse. Best hand cleaner out there.

    This is great Dan, thank you. I'm still in the evaluation process of whether I want to ride. This past weekend I did a lot of reading about safety and risk stats, watched some uncensored videos and really thought a lot about how hard my parents would object. But a video like this where you're riding very safely with your girl really normalizes the concept in my head, and the way you narrate how you think about safety (giving yourself escape routes, checking your rearview mirrors at stops etc) elucidates how much a skilled rider can mitigate risk.

    • @returnedtotheearth1326
      @returnedtotheearth1326 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      More people die falling down the stairs each year than riding motorbikes. Yes more people use the stairs than ride but there is risk is everything we do. Like anything, the more you do something the better you get and the less likely to make a mistake. You will never have no risk riding a bike and riding certainly doesn't suit everyone but there is no need to be overly nervous about it. Just learn at a pace that suits you and you will be fine. But yeah if you're young your parents will hate it haha. I didn't learn to ride until my mid 40s so didn't have that parent problem 🤣

    • @ZombieRommel
      @ZombieRommel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@returnedtotheearth1326 Yeah thanks. I'm not that young (33) but I know the emotional assault and all sorts of ultimatums will come my way, so I'm trying to get myself as independent as possible before I take up this hobby. I hadn't really been exposed to level-headed calm riders before I started digging around on TH-cam and found guys like Dan, MC Rider, and Motojitsu, so my perspective of the kind of person who can ride a bike well & safely is changing. Maybe that sounds dumb, but I'm a pretty level-headed guy myself and for most of my life I saw riders as foolhardy and exceedingly comfortable with unnecessary risk. So to see someone like myself (someone with a keen eye for good technique who isn't doing 100MPH and popping wheelies) is very interesting and gives me confidence that this is a skill I can learn and master safely.

    Dan do you have a video that covers how to downshift properly - i noticed you mentioned feathering and would love to know more about that and different scenarios for downshifting! I kept trying to look at nikki's gear indicator but the camera always switched. I also have a rebel myself and love watching this series

    Awesome Job Nikki and great job Dan helping her feel more comfortable on the ride to work! As far as stink in your pants, between washes turn them inside out and hang them outside to air out and maybe use a little febreeze to help with the odor!

    Put half softener half vinegar into your wash or backing soda with your powder that will neutralize the odor.

    Getting the stink out of kevlar: soak in hot water and baking soda, slightly agitate, leave until water is room temp, rinse and air dry. Same for denim

    Great video you two!!! Personally, I'm terrified with Tucson drivers. If I ever ride to work, it will be before or after the rush hours. Always assume someone will run that red light...cause they do!

    Hi Dan, if i may critic a bit. I realize it is hard teaching a loved one, and it is often discouraged lol. You are doing very well though, not too much sensory overload. I know you are progressively giving her more and more knowledge, but she needs to start using the rear brake on starts, her clutch on starts is getting there, I wanted say, if she could blip the throttle just prior to clutch release, so the rpm is just a tad up before the friction point. Stopping, I haven't seen her shift down to first prior to stopping, might be oversight on my behalf, sorry. You mentioned for to look at the spot that she stopping at, her head should be up and scanning before she gets there, she should use her rear brake to smooth the final feet of stopping. For light intersections, if there is crossing man sign, i try to look for it and gauge if the light will change soon. While riding in traffic, cover the brake so it is a squeeze instead of a grab should a emergency braking situation come up. Just my observation, again like a chess game, the bystanders always see more. I hope you guy are doing well during this crazy time. Please don't take this as a bad thing, Ive seen your other videos and there is great content. Cheers
