I am a new rider at 50 and ride with my husband and two young 20s sons. We all got our motorcycles last year. Your video is wonderful. This is exactly how we communicate while riding together. My guys all coach me while riding, cause they're looking out for Mom. I am by far the most nervous, so it was nice heading Nikki sound just like I feel. Thanks for letting me know I wasn't the only one scared at the beginning. Keep up the great work! Your relationship sounds lovely too!

Thank you very much Nikki for putting yourself out there for the world to see when you are 'vulnerable' as a new rider (still learning and still making beginner errors). It takes a lot of courage to let people sit in their comfort at home and 'judge' your performance when you are still nervous or unsure of yourself... I found it inspiring.
I am a brand new rider at 34yr and just bought my first bike but even though I have a license I have not driven on the road yet and I am too scared to ride my bike home from the dealer when it is finally ready (yeah I am looking at you Harley - it's already been a month, dragging your feet much!?) I don't have someone to ride with me like you have but watching this has shown me your courage and I feel more confident about not being scared for my first ever ride. Thank you again

First time rider here...I bought a used rebel 500 (2020) a couple weeks ago and have been commuting to work (20 mins) whenever possible! It's so much fun! First time I rode the bike, I was sketched out going 30 mph. Second day I got used to the feeling and then rode on the freeway (not that busy during my commute time). That sketched me out but I just clamped my legs to the tank whenever the wind got to be a little too much and that helped a lot. Now I find myself taking the bike out to do errands whenever possible, it is SO FREEING!

Trick for getting odor out of pants without washing them is throw them in the freezer over night. The cold neutralized the smell.

I love the duo videos for a lot of reasons. For me they help with the anxiety part of learning more than the fundamentals but that's beneficial in its own way. I can visually see the mistakes and learning process and compare it to my own. The cute couple banter is nice as well. Hope you two enjoy making them so they can keep happening.

Slow speed slalom is one of 6 test you have to pass when you take your motorcycle licence in Germany. The other 5 are
    1. Emergency breaking with 50 kmh
    2. High speed slalom (with 30kmh)
    3. Stop an Go with changing leg.
    4. Breaking and evade an obstacle (50 kmh)
    5. Same as 4 but without breaking. Just pulling the clutch
Additional to the 6 test you have to ride around the city and on the highway.

merino wool base layer*. Wicks the sweat away and breathes for your skin so you don't get chafed, I've gone 6 hours *without stopping* because my ride is so comfortable I lose track of time and pile on the miles. Before I got the base layer I was stopping every 15-20 miles for a walk around, stretch and a drink, the worst part was my legs were soaked in sweat, clammy and cramping. Also it's an interference for the abrasion layer (kevlars/leathers/denims/whatever) so they don't pick up the stink.
*Don't get cotton base layers, they don't wick anything away, they just get soaking wet and make your ride miserable. Yes, merino wool is expensive but it is *totally worth it*.

Nice video! I'm just an old lady and no expert but a couple of thoughts as a commuter. Saddlebags. I hate having anything on my back. Balanced on each side. Also helps with upper torso fatigue. The other thing, and Dan is the expert so he might comment, is on the stopping and acceleration. The bike comes to a long, I call them landings and they take practice, so that both breaks are applied and only your left foot is on the pavement. Your right foot is on the rear brake. A parking lot skill. If you bring down the right foot you tend to overuse the front break and dip the forks, making for a bounce. I saw a video to practice this is by beginning to stop earlier/longer. It also gives you more downshifting time. It helped me. It also helps on the acceleration as you apply throttle/friction point as you slowly release the rear brake so your left foot just comes up. No paddling off with either foot. So parking lot practice stopping using both breaks so you land gracefully on the left foot only. And acceleration practice so the bike takes off slow and smooth and moves off the mark through friction zone and a gentle release of the rear brake. This is also a great skill to have when you land but cannot see at an intersection. The ability to slowly move up without paddling. It's all kinda wrapped in the same skillset.

@@ZeroFallout1 It's important and necessary to be weary on a bike. Dropping your guard at the wrong time can result in an accident. I got involved in a minor rear end collision after my bike got stuck in second gear and thr car behind me just plowed into me. It was frustrating being without my bike for almost two months due to supply issues due to the pandemic. Now, I ensure my bike is in first every time I stop. I know how to take off quickly, but it doesn't help when the bike is stuck on the wrong gear.
I was a little paranoid after I got my bike back, but I keep my distance, with plenty of space cushion. I've gotten comfortable again on the bike. Even a small accident can be frustrating.

96 km a day for work and in weekends we do some trips with various km, s it depends which trip we choose on "routeyou" but mostly +/- each trip up to 5 hours or 200+ km's. Mostly small roads with many curves the trip itself and to go to the beginning point highways if possible or desirable. For me as beginner ( 3 months) it is priceless as practice. Of course we stop to make pictures and if we are tired in the middle of a trip we stop and go home. Always in mind we have to travel home at the finish of the road trip. We have to be fit to do that. 😊

DDFM, your channel and countless videos have been very useful as I’m pursuing a motorcycle license in my country. I’m puzzled why your girlfriend would have the 3 letter word on her helmet which might give a negative impression for female motorcyclists being loose in character. Perhaps your girlfriend might want to remove all letters from her helmet? Cheers

I'm from Europe too and was wondering too. I wave at motorcycling cops because they are on a motorcycle but the normal cops we don't wave. Here they should react weird if we would wave. Would be nicer though and polite.
