- I react to Ren's rap song The Hunger. He really stitched together many different flows, rhymes, and cadences to make a very dynamic and progressive rap. There were a couple of flows that sounded better than others, but that comes with the territory when you swap flows so often. Of course some will sound better to me subjectively! I breakdown and review his lyrics. Keep in mind, this one was a bit hard to understand on the first try. I definitely missed a few things I could have pointed out, but that would have made this video like 6 minutes longer!

Awesome job breaking this all down, following the plot of the song, finding the connections in the bars! I've watched other reactors saying this was just a showoff rap but didn't say much and they didn't enjoy it. I think you definitely prove that wrong and show it not only is a showoff rap but super deep as well!

Maybe the one thing you missed is that in colloquial English,’ having a beef with someone’ is having a strong disagreement with someone, but ‘he grinds up his beef’ meaning that it is of no significance..
Yea! I didn't point it out (it's actually pretty common in mainstream rap too. Eminem, J Cole, Kanye West, etc have used that saying quite a bit). Now I will say, reason I didn't dive into it too much in the reaction is because right after mentioning not beefing with anyone, he went off talking about what he would do to people who beef with him, which was very visually descriptive LOL.

His vids are like a show you get more from each time you binge. Someone freshly walking up with no musical background finds plenty to love, and every trail you follow you find so much more. Part of why it’s so fun to watch others bring their expertise and background knowledge to the watch party.
6:36 - He's not just saying something, he's paying homage while being self-deprecating. The artists to which he first compared himself? Vincent Van Gogh and Django Reinhardt! Broken geniuses, Reinhardt lost the use of two of his fingers in a fire, Vincent Van Gogh self-harmed. Then he took a break in tempo "I start ... making my mark... like Frankie Sina... tra King call me Ar... thur." Giving the internal of trucking as in moving like these two underground to begin with leaders (Rat Pack and Round Table.)

A beef is also a clash with another artist which makes sense for the lyrics that follow that line. Also, in way, he mocking the anti-capitalistic movement by saying right after, "society collapses, great, pump up the treble". That says to me, who cares about it, as long I can spit my rhymes.

@@xFayze What You Want (old skool Beastie Boys tribute), Genesis, Fisher - Losing it (Rap retake) and Bittersweet Symphony (Retake) are more of his work that probably is very in your lane. The Hunger is quite the most "show off" rap track though

It's not just that he does hip hop really well, with rhymes, flow and bars. It's that he crafts them with cadence changes and integrates unique pop chord progressions, while hitting hard drops like a DJ. It's so creative you can't stop listening. By the way, everyone like Toblerone, so it;s easy to swallow =)_
Most of his videos are done in one take. That in itself is pure genius. He sings beautifully too.

Looks like you really enjoyed this one - fun but also not without substance. Lots of dark humour and throwing back to other songs. It's such a well put together production too - the beat boxing that comes in from "Cover up the crime scene..." is easily missed because it's such a blend of sounds but is pretty amazing (and maybe fairly unique, not that I am a rap expert by any stretch)!

Another great reaction to Ren. Yes this young man can rap, and his lyrical content and everything is on point. If u want another rap rap check out his "What you want". Very feel good and his tribute to oldschool rap. Or recently he did a retake on a British classic by the Verve, "Bittersweet Symphony". Plus today he received a package in Canada where the bass player from the Verve sent him a guitar!! So cool😎...u can see how touched Ren is in a video on his social medias.

I love when people react to this for when that realisation sets in and they get exactly why we all recommend The Hunger 😂 All those different flows and such clever bars. Ren is just something very special. I’m sure other people will let you know which other tracks to check out for more rapping, so I will recommend something completely different: Crutch feat. Bibi. It is beautiful and heart wrenching ❤

If you want a suggestion, maybe have a look at 'Ren - Humble (Feat. Eden Nash)'. It's a lyric video. Slower paced with a reggae/ska vibe but he busts out the rap at times.

Love your reactions and breakdowns! I feel like the “soul in my bowl” and “grind up my beef” parts could have other meanings too, like how people speak of music having soul or soul music so when he’s eating it he’s eating the soul so like he’s purposely putting soul/meaning into his music. And also in UK there’s the phrase “putting your heart and soul into it” which means to really give everything you’ve got into something you’re doing. So could also stand for that. And the “staying grounded when I grind up my beef” part - in UK (not sure if in other English speaking areas) “having a beef” with someone/something is like having an argument/problem/grudge with/against someone/something so it could symbolise “staying grounded” by grinding up his problem/issue, metaphorically swallowing it and then processing it and bringing it back out as teaching what he’s learned from this and doing it “over beats”. I’m sure that’s not what Ren meant but I love how with music, words and art it is open to each person’s individual experience of that art along with their own life experiences and perspective for interpretation and understanding and we can all have different understandings and get different things from it. … ha! I’ve written a bloody essay on soul and ground beef 😂😂 doubt anyone’s read to this part but if you have well done!
Don't sweat it, I like interpreting music so it didn't feel long reading this comment at all. I know I might be reaching here, but even when it comes to making food, it's a common saying to put your soul into the plate you are making, or in this case, bowl?

When Ren finds you he's helping reactors fully. His songs aren't copyrighted so any problem hit him up.
It gets flagged automatically by youtube and i dont make any money from ads you see on this video. I dont doubt he would remove it manually if he stumbled onto my channel, but I am not going to bother him by reaching out and asking. He has much bigger things to worry about. With Ren especially, I dont mind the money going towards him!

Late to the party, but if you don't have an answer on the Toblerone yet, it's like how they say M&Ms melt in your mouth, not in your hands...Toblerone is a super smooth chocolate that comes in a really long bar, & once you start eating it, it's nearly impossible to stop, so it references not only him literally swallowing the flow the way someone totally eats up a whole Toblerone bar, but also, I think it applies to how his bars are so smooth & how he just swallows them up.

However, I read another comment about how Ren had thought about using the line 'pigs to the slaughter' in his lyrics (not sure what he was referencing) but the imagery of a pig stuck with him... hence why it's used in his videos. Someone else would probably be able to explain it better than me but I thought that I'd share that info with you

If thats true about what the pig represents then i done with Ren. I love Rens music but no way am i anti Capitalism. Its not perfect but theres nothing you can say that would make me believe anything else is better.
Disclaimer, I'm not knowledgeable enough in this but here is my thoughts anyway, lol. I think the problem that arises from capitalism, which is increasing the gap between the richest and the rest of the people, is a problem that communist regimes also face. There is no check of power in both cases. With communism, those in charge have no one who can oppose them, which can lead to the abuse of power. With capitalism, we want to believe the government will keep the richest ppl and monopolies in check, and in theory they should be able to. But those richer people and corporations actively donate into these politicians campaigns while also paying millions a year lobbying and/or slowing down the pace of of policy makers. Take cigarette companies who actively tried to say the link between smoking and cancer was made up. They slowed progress down for a decade or more.
So there is no perfect solution, atleast none that we have found yet. I personally like to think a socialized version of capitalism (socialized Healthcare, housing, food) would be a cool thing to try. Maybe those have inherent problems too, but I think the bare necessities to keep a human alive should be socialized. We would get the money for this through even higher taxes, but only for the richest of rich. There are so many loopholes to get out of taxes through corporations. Solving that alone could fund so much.
At the end of the day though, yes, I much rather have capitalism
My opinion Capitalism isn't the problem, the problem is the corrupt politicians and the corrupt corporate CEOs. Socialism/Communism the governments have control over you, tell you what you can and can not do a long with zero opposition and corruption. That's a 100 percent hell no for me. Ill take my chances with Capitalism which is far from perfect.
