  • Watch me react to Ren Losing it ( FISHER rap retake )! Check out the other REN reactions on my channel if you want to follow my journey in discovering him. I saw inspiration from Eminem on this rap, and also can see Ren make his own sound off of it. Overall, I enjoyed this song as well, although a couple flows did not hit as well as the flows from The Hunger. His references, inner rhymes, and cadence were all A tier in my opinion. What did you think of his song? How would you review Ren on this rap? Let me know!

    Since I am seeing it a lot in the comments; I am kidding about banning him because of a camera angle LOL! Was a joke people hahaha. Anyway, which should I check out next? Genesis or Chalk Outlines? These seem to be the most requested in the comments.

      Genesis is a rap song (which I think you'd like) where Chalk outlines is... I don't know how to describe it. Indie maybe?

      I’m 46 and I knew you you were joking as it’s not something a man my age wants to see so the shock value of that was real cuz I didn’t know where it was going but after watching the song a few times I love this song cuz it was showing all rens talents of a rapper . Weird thing is I got you were joking but I wonder about the youth in Britain today that don’t get or see jokes or sarcasm when it’s presented as that what we do best 😂

    Losing It is definitely more of a fun song, but then I think it’s nice to see him let loose and remind us all to laugh when possible even if life sucks most of the time.
    Oh and also pretty sure I saw Ren mention Eminem in a Q&A when asked about which three artists he would love to collaborate with. I sure wouldn’t mind seeing that happen someday…

    I feel like that switch up into what you said sounded like Em's Venom is 100% a shout out to Em. I think Ren shouts out to some of the areas he's known and then basically does a double word play with "what you reckon?" but I've heard it also read as "recon", as if in the first instance he's asking Em "What you think?" or similarly with "recon" it's almost like he knows Em has looked at him already. Regardless, the lines that follow are, "Back on my bullsh*t, did you see what I did there? New kid on the block, """Flip the drop of the music I twist it, beat it, abuse it"""" " Where I think he's talking about the Venom reference even after that flow has ended. Just a complete theory by the way, I'm certainly not a lyrical analyst by any stretch of the imagination, but that's just what I pick up from it and I feel like Ren is clever enough to put that together, you're the first reaction I've seen pick up on that I thought I was crazy at first

  • @MarkTomblin

    I think it might be deliberate: at 9:56 when he is going "beast-mode" he looks like a young Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols. I think I read somewhere punk is one of his influences.

    FYI, Ren pulls techniques and inspiration from multiple artists and styles, but he also pays tribute to those artists within the lyrics. He has mentioned Eminem, Plan B, Busta Rhymes, Jimmy Hendrix, and Bob Marley... then he has mimicked all of them as if you can not tell the difference. His Bob Marley remakes were a complete tribute, and close your eyes. You may believe Mr. Marley has been reincarnated.

    When you said there's certain points where this doesn't flow as well as the hunger, I gotta agree. I like this song, but I feel like this with most things he does retakes of (as in, he didn't make the beat). I feel like it might be easier for him to match his flow with the beat if he produces both. Still great writing, but his original stuff just hits harder imo. I recommend What you want next, it's a more old-school beastie boys inspired song.

      Think the original track is from Fisher, an Aussie EDM producer. No lyrics in the original, other than "I'm losing it". Rapping to an EDM beat IS different, at least to my ear. Higher, lighter, less organic sound. Less bass. More urgent. Insanely precise club music.

    • @stub011
      @stub011 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The beat is a 2016 (I think) club track by Fisher called Losing It. The original is just an instrumental with the only words exactly placed in REN’s retake “I’m Losing It”. Definitely more of a UK style to take a club track and rap over it, I’m not saying it doesn’t happen in the US, but it’s more prevalent in the UK with the fact that grime is largely done at 140bpm so club tracks are a natural go to for beats👍👍👍

    I don't listen to rap a lot, so I want to ask you a question: Since Ren normally writes his own beats, I would think that this song, where he wrote new lyrics to an existing beat, must radically change the lyric writing/ creative process. Or am I wrong about that? I know that on his Bittersweet Symphony retake, the Brit reactors are really praising how Ren captures the essence of what it is to live in Britain and they universally love Ren's version. But the rhyme scheme seems much simpler in Bittersweet Symphony vs Losing it.

    • @xFayze
      @xFayze  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As far as I know, writing lyrics to an already made beat confines the writer into an area they can maneuver in. Ren is still able to choose which flow and rhyme schemes to use, but there are only a limited amount that he has to pick from. From a creative aspect, producing your own beat or working with a producer in real time offers much more room for creative moments, fluid flow transitions, cool effects like the beat cutting in and out, etc. There are some producers who post themselves making beats on youtube, and often times you'll see them humming freestyle lyrics and flows while they make their beats. If Ren is participating in the production, he can choose whether he wants to follow the beat or if he wants to steer a bit and have the beat follow him (if that makes sense) vs. being constrained to only following the beat here.

      Poor choice of word. Was thinking of the pacing of the filming in some scenes such as Kill Bill. Back and forth angle shots, quick, brutal. Was relating it to how Ren flows. He switches multiple flows and cadences without giving you a moment to breathe

    Aww... Some people are so delicate and insecure. You may want to stop the Ren reactions now if you're legitimately bothered because he has some lyrics out there which might ruin your day.
    Also, Tarantino isn't at all known for explosions. He's well known for his non-linear storytelling. I think a "Tarantino flow" indicates a lot of switch ups.

      Some (correction, MANY MANY) people enjoy seeing someone break down rap. If that's not your cup of tea, why not just click away and find something more to your liking.
      You're not being a troll, merely a selfish, rude, entitled, pathetic, jerk.
      No one's forcing you to watch, you didn't pay for this entertainment (and it IS entertaining to almost everyone else watching) and it's FREE.
      Maybe you just need to step away from the screen and ponder expending all that pent-up energy on something productive and useful.
      Might I suggest some fresh air, sunlight, and perhaps look into trading in that attitude for one that comes with an improved social skill set.
