    Look, again... not here to give you a super hard time because, hey... you're out here doing something great. That said, the absolute most important part of your videos to a lot of your viewers is your epoxy process. There might be a few folks out here making the exact same camper as you, so seeing your CAD mock-up, and all that, will be instructional for them. I am building a hard top for my boat. All that epoxy work you're just blowing by, is exactly why many of us are here. I have done a grip of fiberglass on fiberglass and fiberglass on wood work. I have never done fiberglass epoxy on foam, so this is why I'm here. What works, what doesn't work, lessons learned about epoxy and foam. There are a ton of folks out here doing videos that leave out exactly the info you need.
    Again, you’re doing fantastic, but if you're going to teach a class, please stop skipping past big chunks of material.

      @DesmoProfundis Thank you for the input and the honest appraisal. These were not so much as instructional or 'how to' videos. This was the first time I attempted anything like this and was learning as I went along, so I am not really qualified to teach something, that I was learning myself. It was more of a vlog, than anything, and I certainly didn't want to lead people down the wrong path. I do some teaching on my astronomy videos, but only because I am familiar with it, and with lots of practice. I am going to be starting a new series where I am converting a cargo trailer into a camper, which, thankfully, I know more about so it will be a little more instructional. Again, thank you for your input, I appreciate honesty and open dialogue.

      Checkout Jake's foamy camper - th-cam.com/video/RRTR-z97ZRY/w-d-xo.html. Skip through the morning run and breakfast prolog. Once he gets going on the build his is the best foam, epoxy, fiberglass build I have seen so far. I've worked with experimental aviation using carbon fiber and fiber glass - Jake taught me quite-a-bit. There are 16 long vids - worth every minute.

    I love how you include all your mistakes and things you could or should’ve done better. It’s very refreshing to see a video with a regular guy doing this, and not feel like everything has been done perfectly like many professional TH-camrs edit theirs to be

      @@GeorgiaAstronomy I’m currently bingeing every video in this series. I want to build my own camper, but I’m on a super limited budget. And I need it light because it’s going on a 1992 f150

    Thanks for this series. You have taught me a lot about foamie construction. I'm not building a truck camper but a squaredrop (boxy teardrop) I can attach to a 5x8 utility trailer when I want to camp. I will use many of the construction techniques you demonstrated. I think the main difference so far is that I will cut and dry-fit all foam pieces as a completed camper first. Only after all the foam pieces are verified to be accurately cut (including the notches) will I disassemble the foam parts and adhere the exterior sheeting to each piece separately before final reassembly. Hopefully, this will make for easier construction and smoother corners since the plywood will not be notched.

      That definitely sounds like a plan! One of the things I wished I had done as well!

    5:20 5mm plywood. was this mentioned earlier? was it decided on the fly to add plywood to the construction? how did you adhere plywood to foam?

    why didn't you use the hot knife to cut the foam again?

    • @GeorgiaAstronomy
      @GeorgiaAstronomy  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Honestly, it was a pretty cheap hot knife and tended to 'wave' around when using. The jig saw and circular saw worked much better.

    Just curious why you notched the Plywood on side walls looks like you did not on the bottom of the wings. Did you find this out and did not do this in other areas? seems like it would be less work not notching the ply.

    • @GeorgiaAstronomy
      @GeorgiaAstronomy  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In retrospect, Probably didn't need to notch the plywood. I believe the only reason I did was due to possibility of there being 'dead space' between the outer plywood and the foam on the wing. I'm sure I could have used som filler there if truly needed.

      @@GeorgiaAstronomy yea maybe just some spray foam sealer in any voids it bonds also and can sand flat. Wish i could find someone with a video of making the sandwich XPS and ply walls

    3:43. Did you not use hot wire because the plywood is already bonded to the foam sheet?
