This song is amazing.. I remember when I first bought The Infection, I was open-mouthed at the heaviness of this song. Chimaira were always blessed with awesome drummers because some of the drum beats behind yours and Matt's guitars made the whole thing sound 10 times heavier.
Could I please request a possible future video on how to play 'The Heart Of It All'
If you do that, would you consider getting Mark and Jim back to do a rendition of it, like you did with Implements Of Destruction?

That's really cool! For me the Infection was the album I felt Chimaira was doing something different in really artistic way. This album had some cinematic feeling for me, which really liked and I think most people were waiting for another Power Trip or Resurection kinda songs. From my friends who listened to Chimaira before noone liked the Infection for some reason, but I did and still do! Thanks, Rob, for your content!)

Love the channel Rob.. never forget my first time introduced to Chimaira.. I was 13.. at the National in Richmond, Va you guys opened for Killswitch... instantly fell in love with the band! It was like something out of a movie.. the fog.. the strobe lights.. at that moment I became a metal head. Fast forward a couple years later, I got to meet you at a random Mayhem Fest date and you were the nicest guy in the world. I should listen to a few of my favorite tracks." And this popped up! Chimaira was one of my top 5 favorite bands and was a HUGE inspiration on my guitar playing, especially because of you and Matt. The most important tone of this song to me is that dusty clean in the intro. Haunted my young ears and is still a tone I'm chasing now

@@AvAfanfromfrance It would have been recorded on my "bus guitar", which was an ltd M-1000. I'd say I'm 99% sure it was an 81 in the bridge position. But since M-1000's have a neck pickup, there's a slight chance....
But here's the story... We'd always record everything in the studio, with real amps and all that. But every once and awhile, there's some magic to a demo, that ends up just making the record, because for whatever reason, that magic just can't be replicated in the same way once you're under the gun in the studio.
Mark and I wrote the majority of The Infection on the bus while on tour. And that's where we put that intro together.
Months later while actually tracking the record, the decision was made by us and producer Ben Schigel, to just use the demo version for the intro because like I said, there was something special about it that wasn't worth trying to recreate.
Oh, and while writing the demo's, we were using the Eleven Rack plugin for our amp sim!🎸

It might not seem like much, but that dusty and obscure intro resonated within my teen brain and became a sound aesthetic beacon for me

thanks rob this has been an extremely helpful lesson, i play drums as a kid so i fell in sink pretty fast, my issues are at the 180 bpm mark in the transitional points from a, to c . i find my self starting with an up pick instead of down, keeping my ear to the bass drum is helping me to overcome this. please i would love if you could make some more vids with 16 note and triplet patterns . thanks once again for an awesome lesson rob !!!

Hey Rob I have a request for a quick riff. One that I know I haven't played right for years. 3 minutes in to The Flame there is the bridge section where there is that kick ass little riffage going on that starts in D. Not sure how quick that would be to pull off in a video but a very cool one.

Here's another tip I should have mentioned... Fresh strings ALWAYS lead to new riffs! Fresh, good feeling, and great sounding strings are inspirational! Trust me!🎸
