Hungary is more of a democracy than the USA or the UK. Hungary doesn't have an upper chamber based on unelected privilege and political nepotism - as the UK has.
The West is a huge plutocracy, rule by the wealthy where the politicians only care about the voters as long as they get the votes then turn around and do the bidding of their donors and special interests. This needs to change, we need to remind them that they serve the people and are not there to enrich themselves and their buddies.
Austrian here - Hungary is more democratic than the rest of the EU. All that BS just comes from the EU because Orban tries atleast to care about his own people. And Media for sure also is just Elite obedient. No (!) State in the EU looks after his own citicenz beside Hungary right now.
Hungary with their system of public consultations (which is not quite as strong as a referendum, but still, allows the public to be directly involved in the decision making on key issues) is arguably the most democratic country within the EU. Only Switzerland's direct democracy referendums are better, but they're not full EU members. Compare it to the EU's interpretation of "democracy", frankly, referenda are the last thing they'd want and for a good reason. They know the public would vote against their sick policies every time, so go figure!
Seems that law of public consultation is just a hogwash for the international audience. In reality, Hungarian government seems to perform no public consultations on topics where it thinks it might get negative opinions. Also, in cases of negative opinions, it seems to simply ignore them.
