(Very thorough & articulate analysis; great film) Upon a 2nd watch, ESPECIALLY at home, there is *so* much going on in between the lines Lee always looking over her left shoulder (devil on left shoulder) How Ruth wasn’t ever “sure” if it was actually Lee on the phone (+ you could hear clicking other line) How Kobble describes Ruth to Lee as “The 7th She” as a dark mirroring to The 7th He-prophet Enoch Why he says “Cuckoo” & its symbolism List goes on. Some were expecting the next “Silence of the Lambs” or “Se7en” -soon as film starts, already looking for comparisons instead of focusing on the ride itself. Let the hype die down? @@RagnaRantz thank you, and great observations! I’m trying to teach myself to not put too much stock into hype nowadays, because I’ve been disappointed by films in the past before that were hyped to be incredible and they were just good. I 100% agree with you, settle yourself in for the ride that this film takes you on and you’ll enjoy it.
Movie gets better the more you watch it especially if you have done the deep dive on youtube and know more of the backstory and symbolisms behind everything, weird people hate it, they really missed the point of the film or were expecting silence of the lambs 2.0

@@GetFramed Yes indeed!! I know this movie got some mixed or divisive to some people due to the great marketing they put out but no matter what i am thrill to be in this boat
Great film, performances, script, colour grading etc! I thought I recognised the lead actress from It Follows (Who should have a bright future), which is another really rewatch able Class film. Cheers 🍻
@GetFramed I'm actually from the GC, but I would have bet you were from Perth lol. Geelong is beautiful, Vic is an awesome state. I'm looking forward to what you make in the future man!
There was something weird about the way conversations were shot in this film. i'm not a film school guy and it stood out even to me. People were positioned unusually either at 90 degrees to eachother instead of face to face, or one person was completely out of shot. it was just quite odd and unsettling.
@@dessertstorm7476 that’s true! The part where she visits Carrie Anne at the mental facilities is like that. They’re both 90 degrees to each other and it creates a strange feeling.
Ive done a lot of film study and all the background stuff you pointed out where the characters are framed off centre with a void in one part of the screen that has a devil in it. People will notice that subconsciously even if they don't consciously pick it out and it will make them uncomfortable. Especially because theyre all set up as though theyre looking at you and the brain is hard wired to pick up on that and fhe viewer will feel watched.
I can understand that. I was actually listening to an interview with Osgood Perkins and he said that that was a difficult part of the film to make. He needed to give a lot of information to the audience and it would have to be an exposition dump but he compensated by also visually showing us what’s going on.
@@GetFramed hmmm I just found the ending plot point not done well, people on set were the biggest Nicolas cage fans and let him go on a long pointless rant, I liked the botched plastic surgery look but other than that nothing was really unsettling and it didn’t add anything new but I like agreeing to disagree
Ari aster doesn't miss. These are all different types of movies though. I think you were right to compare this to silence of the lambs and seven it's a thriller more than a straight horror that's why the horror fans are let down. Midsommar is a masterpiece

Her screaming in the car..I took that as her coming out of her "trance" and everything sinking in. Since the ball in her doll had just been destroyed
