  • Many of us believe our genes doom us to the disorders that run in our families but today’s guest, Dr. Ben Lynch argues that with the right plan in place, you can eliminate symptoms, optimize your physical and mental health-and ultimately rewrite your genetic destiny. Dr. Lynch is the author of Dirty Genes, and in it, he discusses eight genes whose correct functioning our health depends on and how to optimize their functioning. Dr. Lynch starts by talking about how he got interested in the field of epigenetics before giving listeners an idea of what this field of research entails. He talks about the concept of translational epigenetics next, according to which our decisions and experiences affect our children and even grandchildren. We spend a great deal of time on the topic of dopamine too, and Dr. Lynch sketches out how people either have less or more of it overall thanks to the functioning of their COMT gene. People with higher or lower dopamine respond completely differently to stressors, and dopamine can become addictive, but the good news is that it can be managed to help accommodate an abundance or scarcity. From there, we talk about the body’s microbiome and its effects on health as well as ways to test it and regulate it, before Dr. Lynch shares about the importance of methylation for the body’s healthy functioning. Dr. Lynch then runs listeners through the eight genes he discusses in his book, talking about the effects they have on our bodies of not functioning correctly and also touches on some of what we can do to optimize them, including healthy eating, good sleep, stress relief, and environmental detox.

Explaining your kids several times why is bad why they need decipline will make the trick. I was very addicted to video games during my college and high school years. My dad always explained to me you can play but you need good grades in a way it helped me to have amazing grades because I was looking to play all day. Bad thing of it is that I was 285 pounds because I was eating all day playing video games and reading. When I discover the gym in my life it kind of replaced the video games so I decided to sell my playstation because was interfering with my gym goals. I guess the source of dopamine stimulus changed for me.

Curious why he mentions issues with the GI-Map. Any elaboration on that?

About 5 minutes into any talk, Ben Lynch's discussions turns into straight broscience.

    Ben,
Family is important to you isn't it, it's like your number 1 need, your friends your community, you want to know it's ok YES..... you continue to work on this Yes, it's your make up, your wiring your make up, your endomorphic development / need.
Your body is set up for endurance, storing nutrition (fats sorry), you dislike harm to others, you need oxygen, protein to support your larger frame and organs.
You admire beta wave 6, chewing is this wave, your structure, green leaf veg is your master of support, crisp veg, why your tummy is alcholine.
    Now your epigenetic,
From the above, the main dopamine releases I've spoken on.
Jump to Food now it's relationship,
Where your body is needing support, this can be seen as a chemical, nutrient need, so foods that provide this are foods for you.
Not only this, but how the food is cooked, not only for digestion and especially to metabolize.
Your cells are most active in daylight hours, so timing of foods for change is also important.
Calories mean zero, macros are a estimate, your foods (identified with your body now) is what's important along with your ability to uptake and utilise.
Your guest is strong in chemical balance, and talks as a nutritionist, and yes liquorice extract is good for our ventricles, but this is a support to Food, our ability to provide to the body in a great volume over a shorter period of time, but we still need to eat and understand what to, what provides for our health.
To much confusion and big words used in our sector, because we identify a chemical and then sell it, where we really need to firstly know how a body is performing first, the body talks, then once the diagnosis says hello and Thank you then we can act.
Creatine, yes it's needed, utilised, but we cannot advise all to take it, why bcuz most can have sufficient levels already.
Foods suggestions and the science used for this, provides from day 1 our knowledge from stats that not everyone is the same, but we have said let's take a range, create a speech from the most populated range, even if the population here is still low, use the words "has shown" , "Could"'....
Phenotype - this word is utilised in epigenetics,
In layman terms it means "you the individual", your current status of health, your express of your genes", the result of your foods, mind / environment, without it knowledge there is guess science, stabs not in the dark but as a trail.
And we are not a trail.
Forget DNA, it's doesn't change, but the active states of our genes within our DNA can. Why our cells and genes have individual recievers.

hi ben is there any chance to make these podcasts shorter? 1,5 hours is just too long, thank you.

I think he needs longer podcasts to reflect the mass amount of raw information being talked about. Good things take time to fully internalise, much like Bpak's podcasts
