    I like how brain science is being incorporated into mental health.

    The biggest challenge I have is when anxiety or depression hit me, usually when I wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep, that’s when I reach for my addiction to sooth my pain. I feel nihilistic & hopeless at 3:30 am, and feel like “who cares” need something to feel better.

    As someone who had a life-altering negative experience on psychedelics, I truly appreciate Dr. Lembke's warning here on taking substances in absence of psychotherapy. If this video shows us anything, it's that the path to getting better requires disclipline, hard work, and that our brain actually craves challenge. We can't risk taking shortcuts.

      Please can you explain about psychedelics? Is it klonapine? I heard its better than antidepresseur and there are psychiatrists who use it to help, but everybody says that its great, and you say you had a bad experience, so its more complicated than I thought😢

      Thank you for your comment. I have considered taking psilocybin to help with my life long struggles with anxiety and depression, because all I ever hear are positives about it. However, as someone that struggles with his mental health, I’m glad to I didn’t after reading your comment.

    Interesting many things that involve a little initial pain or effort or challenge also bring about a positive practical result in the world, not just neurochemically as Lembke says, and it can be cumulative, getting better and better. Exercise will make you fitter, working on something difficult can produce something useful. If you only do things that are initially pleasurable like eating cake or getting drunk you will go down hill in practical terms, not just neurochemically, eventually your situation may get so decadent you die.

    Thank you for such an informative interview! Why can Amazon sell such dangerous drugs and harmful chemicals without doctors supervision, that are being taken by lonely people? The indifference from government is impressive! Why isn’t pornography controlled if it’s known to harm our brain in different ways?

    • @NotMyFault2
      @NotMyFault2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just because something is harmful does not then mean that they government needs to come in and regulate it. Also, pornography itself does not cause harm and does not work the exact same for everyone. The reality is pornography is speech. Therefore, it is first amendment protected.

      The question is for the interviewer - the sentence that he says 1:04:31 - "an interesting study for ACUTE lower back pain that opioids are not any better than placebo....", "you should check the study".

    Feels like this interviewer is not on her level but is trying to be on her level by forcing it. He just doesn't have the knowledge base to ask and respond to her answers that he needs to have, but he seems to think he does (but he doesn't). She spending way too much time and energy gently correcting his knowledge. How is she going to take off with someone like that keeping her tied down?

      We all do the best we can. I’ve always heard that in order to demonstrate that you know something, is your ability to explain it to someone else.
